  1. Quoting the Hawk should be grounds for immediate banning from this board.
  2. In fairness to Dombrowski, the last time they did that was Juan Gonzalez. That might be making them a little gun-shy.
  3. No hard feelings, Trip J. I actually really liked Banks that year, I was just taking a dig at his NFL career, or lack thereof. Hopefully, this gives Quinn extra motivation to prove he belonged in NYC against the Buckeyes, not that he needed any more.
  4. :D too bad he's 44. ...and available! He was born in Chicago! Welcome home, Rickey.
  5. He could probably be signed to a minor league contract even without taking up space on the 40 man roster if he isn't picked up by another team. I still want to get a priest just to make sure he stays away. Jose - The power of Christ compels you! Stay away from Wrigley Field!
  6. Hmmm. Huff/Pierre/Bradley, and Murton available for the inevitable Bradley injury. I like it.
  7. Kenny Rogers should probably be more careful around Detroit cameramen, since they're liable to be packing heat.
  8. Bradley is no idea acquisition. But Hendry passed on ideal long ago, and so far has settled for spare parts that don't help much. RF has always been the biggest hole on the team, and they need a bat out there, but they don't seem interested in the good ones. I'd be happy with somebody better than Bradley, I just don't see the Cubs getting those few guys that are out there. I want Bradley because we can get him for Patterson and a bucket of balls, and he is an on-base machine. And since we are pretty sure that all the Cubs' players can deal with black people, I think he'd be a good pickup.
  9. Um, if anything, this was his worst year in four years. Check out his ERAs since 02: 2002 2.83 2003 1.58 2004 3.42 2005 3.77 I'll shut up.
  10. I could see that happening. The guys on mlb radio were talking about Wilkerson probably on his way to another team. If such a move were made, Hendry would be beatified by this board. :D
  11. If God is a Cardinal fan why haven't we won a friggin' World Series in the last 23 years? Because the Cardinals can't spend 200 million dollars a year.
  12. What about Lowell? The Red Sox only picked up Lowell because they had to pick up his salary to get Beckett as part of the deal. I would expect Marte to get every chance to win the job with Lowell backing him up.
  13. Naturally, since the Cardinals are having their first bad offseason in about a decade, the White Sox are running around plugging in good players for total crap. Marte is not a good pitcher at all. Good job by the Sox to cash in on him having his first-ever half decent year. OT: Remember Marte walking Walker with the bases loaded to complete a Cubs sweep of the Sox at Wrigley in 04? :D
  14. I'm liking Walt Jocketty more and more. BTW, if Miles and Bigbie go from crap in Coors to all-star in Busch, that, beyond the shadow of a doubt, would prove that God is a Cardinals fan.
  15. I'd love to see Cairo back as a bench player, and I'd bet he'd be receptive to coming back.
  16. I'm not exactly a Cubs minor league-o-phile, but I'd never heard of Mateo before.
  17. He's a decent ballplayer and could be great someday. But he's not as good right now as people say he is. He finished ahead of Jonny Gomes in the Rookie of the Year voting even though Gomes had him beat in pretty much every category except for playing time and team he played for.
  18. The Eric Young I remember played 2nd base, unless you're thinking of a different player.
  19. Agreed. He's a better 2-hole hitter than anyone else we have.
  20. Not saying much...
  21. Looking at the Soriano deal, we could probably get Bowden to ship us Livan, a decent OF and a PTBNL for Wood if we could get Kerry to waive his NTC.
  22. Ron Santo is quite possibly my favorite person ever.
  23. good to know i'm not the only person who physically damaged something when that happened. i shattered a glass at a bar. oops. Thankfully, that happened to be the day I came home from my first year of college, so I missed that game.
  24. Is this the next move? Benson isn't great, but the Rangers would basically be giving the Mets nothing and he'd be an upgrade to the pitching staff. Texas could be pretty good before too long if they keep this up.
  25. This WAS a salary dump for the Rangers. Soriano is going to make something like 10 million if I've read correctly. And yet the Rangers still got, by FAR, the better of the deal.
