  1. Wow, I want to see something done but we shouldn't need three highly rated prospects for a one-year rental from a team selling their team for spare parts. Again, Cub fan myopia. "Highly-rated prospects?" Here's Rotoworld's take (boldface is mine)-- The Chicago Tribune believes the Cubs are offering pitchers Sergio Mitre, Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto to the Marlins for Juan Pierre. Not bad, though the Marlins could try to do better. If acquired, Mitre would go right into Florida's rotation. The other two should probably begin the year in Triple-A. Dec. 7 - 12:53 am et Yep, Cub fans wearing Harry's glasses might be a more accurate phrase. Like Choi, and Cruz, and Hill and countless other crappy prospects traded away when Cubs fans thought they were sooo good. Just make the trade and get someone who will be guaranteed to be our leadoff guy and then gocus on SS/RF. None of the pitchers mentioned have a higher ceiling than #3 and that's only one of them perhaps. They aren't as good as we think they are. If I'm wrong, I'll eat a lot of crow. As I recall, Choi got us DLee, Hill helped us get Ramirez, and before the 2003 season I remember reading (in SI, not just a Chicago-based publication) we could have traded Cruz straight up for Shea Hillenbrand if we'd wanted to. That to me sounds pretty good.
  2. I will refrain from making comment$. That's ridiculous. 1400 dollars of DVDs? How does any college STUDENT have that much money, let alone a football player that doesn't have time to get a fulltime job in the summers?
  3. Tough call. I'd give the edge to the Colts just because the media jumps all over any team that starts 8-0 or better, adding more pressure. The Colts also don't have the luxury of recruiting all the best college players just to be backups for them. (No I'm not bitter.)
  4.  Lima: "C'mon Angel, where's your money?" This is where I have to draw the line. Don't get me wrong, Mrs. Benson is attractive, but my God she's not even as hot as my wife. If I'm going to cheat, it's got to be a move up. Have you seen Mrs. Lima? Now, THAT'S HOT!! =P~ My original post was in reaction to Anna Benson's claim (I believe on Howard Stern) that if Kris cheated on her, she would "have relations" with every player on his team. I believe she went on to even included the trainers, bat boys, etc...you'll have to ask Vance though, I think he has it memorized. Yeah, that's pretty much exactly how it went. That led to the PTI guys joking about how all the Mets were taking up a collection to get a really hot hooker to sleep with Kris. :D
  5. Something tells me this post is going to lead directly to another ten pages of replies. Apparently not. It's almost worth keeping this post up so people can see that someone out there still thinks we can bat CPatt 2nd...

  7. It would have to be Non-Cubs non-MLB, as all the baseball news can fit in baseball discussions, rivalries, or transactions. Isn't Social our non-Cubs sports discussion forum?
  8. When did anyone say that Pierre will never return to his career numbers? I've heard several people say 'what if?', but not with the authority that people talk about Lee's career year. At this point I'm fine with pulling the trigger on a Pierre deal. It's unlikely that Pinto AND Nolasco will amount to a whole lot as a major leaguer and quite possible that neither will do much, whereas Pierre would fill a hole right away. Then trade Patterson, a Rule 5 arm, and a bucket of balls for Bradley, and we have a pretty decent team, especially if Murton picks up where he left off.
  9. Danny F. Jackson!! Todd "The Turd" Hundley. Bump Wills. Ron Cey. Kevin Tapani. Henry Rodriguez. Jaime Navarro. Randy Myers. Rod Beck. Candy Maldonado. Dave Smith. Jason Bere. Flash Gordon. Benito Santiago. That settles it - God hates the Cubs. Glad to see you're on board.
  10. From what has been said on this board, we should be able to get Bradley for less than Walker - Patterson and a Rule 5 arm should do the job.
  11. Danny F. Jackson!! Todd "The Turd" Hundley. Bump Wills. Ron Cey. Kevin Tapani. Henry Rodriguez. Jaime Navarro. Randy Myers. Rod Beck. Candy Maldonado. Dave Smith. Jason Bere. Flash Gordon. Benito Santiago. I just had about 15 bad memories fly into my head at once.
  12. Did the royalty thing collapse and crush Baker and Morgan to death? If not...darn.
  13. I love how two of you posted Dusty-bashing jokes about the order at the exact same time, and they both made complete sense. :D
  14. Chase Coffman got shafted. So did Fasano :D Just kidding, congrats to Lewis. Heck of a year. I knew that Lewis would win over Fasano. Absolutely no problem with it, either. Lewis should be a 1st-rounder easy. I think Fasano will be good in the NFL, too, actually.
  15. Let's hope they play like that at Worthen Arena against BSU on New Year's Eve. We might have a prayer then.
  16. Well any hope of Dusty leaving is now gone...
  17. Nolasco/Pinto for Pierre, I could stomach. I still wish they'd get Bradley though.
  18. I'm still pissed we didn't land Hampton.
  19. Way better than what to expect from Hairston? The same Hairston that had an OBP of 353 in 2003, 378 in 2004, and 361 in the first half of 2005? MPrior was taking into account the automatic drop in skills that comes every time a player signs with the Cubs.
  20. My all-C team: CF B. Clark 2B L. Castillo RF M. Cabrera 3B E. Chavez 1B S. Casey SS O. Cabrera LF Bu. Crosby C J. Closser Bench IF J. Cantu 1B T. Clark 3B J. Crede OF M. Cuddyer C R. Chavez OF C. Crawford Rotation C. Carpenter R. Clemens B. Colon J. Contreras G. Chacin Bullpen M. Clement C. Capuano K. Calero J. Crain Setup - F. Cordero Closer - C. Cordero On the Team Because Their Names Are Funny: Coco Crisp Stubby Clapp With this pitching staff, I think the C team could take anybody in a seven game series. Three of the last four Cy Young winners and the best closer in baseball, and that Cabrera-Chavez-Casey middle of the order is no slouch either.
  21. I don't know if we'll give him a chance to post before we solicit the information.
  22. It was Walt Harris of Stanford. Bobby Wallace of Temple had ND 13th, Spurrier had them 14th, Bill Doba of Wazzu had them 12th, Tom O'Brien of BC had them 11th and Barnett of CU and Rocky Long of UNM had them 10th. Not sure what any of these votes mean, but just for entertainment value. Dennis Franchione had ND 3rd for some strange reason.
  23. Charlie Weis also voted ND #4, ahead of Ohio State, even though Ohio State only lost to two of the top three teams in the country, and ND lost at home to a team that wasn't bowl eligible. And, Ohio State beat that same team at home. Conspiracy! So it means nothing to you that an entire conference realized after the VT loss that ND was likely to slip into an automatic slot in the BCS and decided to ban together to try to stop it? If Weis and 10 of his coaching cronies had gotten together and voted ND 4th and Oregon 10th (Weis had Oregon 6th BTW), then you might have an argument. So, you're saying that these Pac-10 coaches were voting ND the same as everyone else, and decided based on the VT loss that they were all going to change their vote to try and keep them out of the BCS? Knowing that only 5 Pac-10 coaches vote out of 62 vote, and that one of those coaches voted ND at #5, higher than their current position? Fact: ND was ahead of Oregon last week. Fact: ND is behind Oregon this week. Fact: Neither ND or Oregon played last week. Maybe there was more than just Pac-10 coaches doing it? All I know is that some coaches apparently decided that bye weeks was ample reason to change their mind on whether ND or Oregon was better. Just out of curiosity, was the one coach that put ND at 5 Pete Carroll?
  24. For the 2nd time in the last seven months a team traded LaTroy and got way too much value for him...
  25. Arizona would have to be the dumbest people alive to trade Tracy. Tracy v. Murton, who ends up being the best redhead in MLB? :D
