  1. Meat and Potatoes Man's avatar is shaking in its boots. :D
  2. Funny how in retrospect, if a bad move works out, it is praised as "taking a risk", but if it doesn't, it is criticized as ruining chemistry or taking an unnecessary gamble et al.
  3. Maybe I'm naive, maybe I never learn. But I would insist on holding back on sending them Guzman in the deal. I think this is the year he puts his arm problems behind him. You're naive and you never learn. We should know by now that except for Z, who seems to be immune to everything, all young stud Cub pitchers have arm troubles (Wood and Guzman) or suffer one fluke injury after another (Prior).
  4. The players were quality. I'm not hating on the players. The Sox were a good team, I just don't think Williams deserves credit for making the offense worse and picking up pitchers that I doubt even he could possibly have thought were going to play that well.
  5. So if the Falcons lose they aren't in the playoffs no matter what? Oh man, gonna be a tough game... Probably not. As it is they are 8th in the NFC currently, with 9-4 Carolina as the first wildcard and 8-5 Dallas as the 2nd. And 8-5 Minnesota still lurks as well. This is really an all-or-nothing game for the Falcons, who can control their own destiny in the NFC South with a win but are basically gone from the playoffs if they lose.
  6. HAHHAH yet all of these pieces got them to the WS. Why the hate? Is it bitterness? Hey, I'm a Cubs fan and I give credit where it's due. KW deserves credit for winning. It's bitterness, yes, but all these moves were much more likely to be bad ones than good ones. The fact that all of these guys ended up having their best years ever (or in Dye's case, his best year this millennium anyway) is just plain lucky.
  7. Trading one sucky pitcher (Loaiza) for another one in Contreras is not laudable. Neither is picking up a guy who hadn't had a full-season ERA below 4.06 since 1998 (Hermanson). Nor is signing a bar-fighting, arm-burning lunatic like Bobby Jenks. Nor is picking up an injury-prone strikeout king in Dye. Nor is hiring a classless arrogant ass as manager. I really don't see why Williams gets credit from anybody.
  8. That's just great. Pittsburgh is about one more pitching acquisition away from competing with the Cubs for 4th place assuming they get Mueller.
  9. This is still Bruce Levine, remember. Who knows if this is real news or just attempting to keep Cubs fans' ears turned to the radio.

Who was the person who got hosed in the high bar again?
  11. No-lose situation for my Panthers. A Falcons loss eliminates a key contender for a playoff spot. A Bears loss coupled with a Bucs loss and a Panthers win over the Saints puts them back in the 2 seed slot despite their sleepwalk last week against Tampa. That said, go Falcons!
  12. I think Oakland and the Cubs are going to make a trade with the Cubs getting Kotsay. Please don't get my hopes up like that...
  13. Best case yet. Guzman won't have value for much longer with his injury issues, Patterson has no value, Rich Hill is unlikely to make an impact with the Cubs anyway due to Hendry's love affair with Rusch, Williams has upside but he's tradeable, and Cedeno has potential but is worth giving up for Tejada. If that's really what's on the table, then I'd expect the deal done by the end of tomorrow.
  14. We're one step closer to Jones/Encarnacion/some other scrub in RF. :(
  15. That defense must be really valuable, because Ausmus is Neifi-esque with a bat.
  16. And once he does, Everett will revert to "White Sox form" and hit .280 with 25 home runs.
  17. This whole trading Todd Walker thing is pissing me off more by the day. At present, Walker is at worst the 4th-best hitter on the team, and you could make the argument that he's better than Barrett making him the best hitter we've got besides Lee and Ramirez. Why on God's green earth are we so desperate to get rid of him???

Of all the winter sports in the Olympics, skiing, hockey and figure skating are the only sports unless there's one I'm forgetting.

    Yes, no and no.
  20. *crickets* But seriously, this thread looks like a moot point because Houston is the team supposedly going after Tejada and Abreu and not Texas.
  21. Anyone want to be real optimistic and say Pierre will be number 4?
  22. The Downtown Athletic Club has just announced that Brady Quinn has been awarded the 2006 Heisman Trophy. *pumps fists* Gets rid of a Heisman AND a national title contender. Pfft, it's a battle for second place after Chase Daniel. Mo Drew disagrees. So does AD. Wow, I totally forgot he existed (and UCLA played OU!). He'd be my #1 candidate for now, ahead of Quinn. I forgot too. I agree, he has a very good chance. How does Oklahoma look for next year? Unless they have a QB a heck of a lot better than Rhett Bomar coming, or Bomar improves by leaps and bounds, Peterson is going to be eliminated from the race by default.

  24. Googled it and yes, that was the spread. But a lot of people thought Oklahoma would win. I was the only one I know who thought USC would win easily.

    Dumbest QB

Until someone else throws the ball backwards with no teammate there to catch it, Aaron Brooks is the pick.
