  1. Preston Wilson has expressed interest in the Cubs... I wonder if he could be had for 5-6M. If we can pull that off then we might as well bring him in unless Philly stops thinking they can get a Prior or a Santana for Abreu.
  2. One bad thing about rooting for a team that's only 10 years old - no one puts you on these lists. I think 20 years from now, Panthers/Bucs is going to be a very big rivalry though, maybe Panthers/Falcons too.
  3. Patient this off-season? Probably Patient overall? No. Remember, each day, more Cubs fans die without ever having seen a World Series title. Sad but true.
  4. Joan Rivers oh yeah, joan jett. James Jett (that took me a while) James Andrews. Thea Andrews Thea Hackett. she's a character in one of my short stories. Buddy Hackett Buddy Love. bob love Bob Marley jacob marley Jacobs Field. Sally Field. "Spider" Salley. Spiderman. Peter Parker. Parker Stevenson. McLean Stevenson. Don McLean. Donnie Moore. Clayton Moore. Royce Clayton. Royce Ring. Ringo Starr. Star Jones. Jacque Jones. Preston Wilson. Wilson the Volleyball
  5. Ummmmm....He does realize we don't currently have a RF, right? Unless he considers Patterson or Mabry to be it. Here... we.... go... again.... Where we going? He's referring to how Dusty has dismissed any thought of John Mabry starting anywhere for the Cubs in 2006. And yes, that's actually true.

    Dumbest QB

Aaron Brooks won a playoff game for the Saints! Ok, that's all he's done.
  8. I don't know what Murton will do in 2006, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't become a very good player for the Cubs sooner rather than later. I haven't felt confident about a Cub prospect's future in a while like I do with Murton.
  9. I've called it pop my entire life, including the six years I lived in South Carolina - "Coke country".
  10. Furcal 13 mil a year or Konerko 12 mil a year? Rogers is probably an anti-Cub honk, but he's right, Konerko is being had for a very reasonable price.
  11. Better Patterson than burning up more money on a RF that's barely any less crappy. There's also the hope, however small, that CPatt might get closer to his 03 numbers. That said, Tejada better be at short if CPatt sees any significant time.
  12. First, I was never trying to imply that Hendry is better than KW. This offseason in particular has shown that Williams is a better GM. But your examples are completely flawed. One by one here: DLee - Everyone knew he had the tools. He had a hole in his swing and fixed it. Barrett - Part luck, part talent. Dempster - Should have been closing all along in 05, and it was Dusty's stupidity that kept it from happening. Murton - Everyone knows he is good. Even when we got him in the Nomar deal, a lot of people were surprised that we could have plucked him. Bill Simmons, a Sox fan, expressed shock that we got the best player AND the best prospect in that deal. Ramirez - He had one bad year in Pittsburgh. That was the fluke, not what happened afterwards.

    Dumbest QB

    :D :D :D We can't possibly lose to Todd Bouman....right?
  14. I am stupider for having just read that. How many runners in scoring position did Houston leave on base in that series again? Now tell me that St. Louis's offense would have "Cubbed" away that many opportunities, and say it with a straight face.
  15. He's very good, too, but I was thinking just over the last 2 or 3 years, and Jocketty has put together video game-like offenses in that span while still having enough money left to bring in very good pitchers like Mulder.
  16. Yeah, Craig, that makes too much sense. I'm much happier here in the "Hang Hendry" mob.
  17. To answer CICT's question from earlier, year in and year out Walt Jocketty has done what he needs to do to help the Cards win and I think he's the best GM in all of baseball. With a payroll barely any larger than the White Sox he's put together one of the top 5 offenses in baseball and one of the top 5 pitching staffs in baseball. (Yes, he gets some help from luck, but not near as much as the White Sox had in 05.) It's by the bad luck of meeting a Sox team on a mission in 04 in the Series and the bad luck of running into the Astro pitching buzz saw that's kept the Cards from winning the last two world titles. The Cards IMO would have beaten the Sox fairly easily in the 05 Series had that matchup occurred. Carry on.
  18. What is it with Mother's Day? We play the Padres on Mother's Day 2006 at Wrigley...wonder what will happen then.
  19. If nothing else, I like that everyone who comes here says that they don't want to leave. I just wish that had more to do with winning than with the atmosphere.
  20. No, they shouldn't, for the reasons already provided.
  21. Shhh...it's all part of his cover as a seemingly harmless leadoff hitter.
  22. I think it was a Saturday Fox game...it was definitely in May though. No, I think it was a Sunday WGN game. And I also believe that it was Mother's Day, just like it was Mother's Day when Sammy got beaned by Solomon Torres. It was also Mother's Day when the wind was blowing out at Wrigley in 2004 and the Cubs and Cards had a homer-fest that ended up getting wiped out by rain. That day has been a very strange one in Cub history. IIRC, that was a cold day as well and the RF for the Cards ended up hurting himself pretty badly...his name escapes me... maybe Eli Marrero ? That's the one. Ended up getting shipped to Atlanta that offseason in the deal that brought Ray King to STL, IIRC. Alou had two homers in that aborted game and I think Edmonds did as well. It was 11-9 Cardinals in the 4th when the game was called.
