  1. Houston...you're on the clock.
  2. That might be the first time an athlete has ever given an honest answer to the question "Is this your last game?" Congratulations Robot Devil and any other Steeler fans on NSBB! :D Now let's hope the Panthers can take the trophy home from Miami next year!
  3. Brady must have been cheering for pittsburgh.
  4. Congratulations Steelers, especially Bettis and Cowher. You guys deserve it. My MVP pick won't quite pan out, but he had a TD pass.
  5. Bud Light is the only saving grace to this year's Super Bowl commercials. Although the one where no one can figure out how to say "I'm going to Disney World" is ok.
  6. Unless D-Lee was playing last season as his "extension year".
  7. Steelers 31, Seahawks 21. Super Bowl MVP - Antwaan Randle El
  8. I'm surprised there isn't one up already so I figured I'd start one. Go Steelers! Win it for Jerome :) http://www.bestsportsphotos.com/images/football/bettis-jerome-2.jpg
  9. Fixed. Bulls only down 2 at half. If Ben, Sweets and Tyson can keep playing well (I love saying "if Tyson can keep playing well" and not "if Tyson can pick it up" :) ) then we can win this game, which would be a big step towards a successful road trip.
  10. I just hate flops in general. There is nothing more frustrating as a basketball fan than to watch your guy play well but get called for a foul because the other guy decides to be an actor. Especially because the officials invariably turn around and call the same play against your team a minute and a half later.
  11. Not as long as D-Lee is in the NL.
  12. It would probably be Larry Rothschild in that case, and if you're going to have Rothschild as interim manager then you might as well keep Dusty aboard because you can't tell the difference betwen the two with regard to pitcher handling.
  13. Either 99 or 2000, we were only 8.5 out of 1st in late July/early August then did the world's biggest free fall. I vividly remember talking to my friend about how we could catch St. Louis from 8.5 back in the next couple of months.
  14. Speaking of coaches that should be fired, Tim Buckley continues to hold a clinic on how NOT to run an offense as Ball State loses a pathetic home game to an exceptionally bad Eastern Michigan team. Somehow, Tim doesn't seem to gather that passing the ball around the perimeter for 25 seconds then trying to drive and force up a shot doesn't usually work. 7-12 and 3-8 in MAC play for BSU, and 0-4 for ND and BSU combined this week. :x
  15. AL: BOS CWS ANA WC - CLE NL: ATL (at this point I'm just picking them until they don't win the division) STL SD WC - NYM World Series: NYM over CLE
  16. 8 losses. 5 overtimes. 26 points. I can't even take this anymore.
  17. I own a "They Gone! Since 1917" shirt that I bought for fun last summer. Naturally it's worth nothing now. Plz buy a shirt that notes the Cubs haven't won since 1908. Now. I'm working on it.
  18. Thirded. I never have a right to whine ever again if they win because so many have unfortunately lived their whole life through without seeing it. :?
  19. For which team is pitching not the key? Other teams rely on pitching as well. And other teams have weak offenses. But few have the chance to be as good as the Cubs good be if all goes well. And few have less reason to believe that all will go well in the pitching staff than the Cubs do, as well.
  20. I'm not Vance, but Philly would be stupid not to accept Williams, Pie and Hill for Abreu. Boston's in a different spot. They don't have to deal Manny, since they can afford him, but if they can fleece a team, they'll deal him. My guess is it would take Lee, Williams, Cedeno, Hill and Harvey with the Cubs picking up at least 75% of his salary. And I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. Did I read that right? A month ago the BoSox were all anxious to deal Manny, Clement, and cash to the O's for Tejada. But now from the Cubs they'd demand Lee, Williams, Cedeno, Hill and Harvey? I thought it was supposedly a Manny/cash for Tejada deal straight up and never heard Clement's name. Of course I could be wrong.
  21. The Cubs don't eat salary. They were adamently opposed to the idea until the Sosa situation came up. Unfortunately, the Cubs like Jones. Hendry likes Jones. He's not going to trade him. He didn't sign him with any intention to trade him. Jones could repeat his mediocre career stats every year and Hendry would be ecstatic. He wanted an athletic RF, not a productive one. Hendry needed a RF this year and had to give Jones a 3-year deal to match other offers. If Pie is ready next year, he will be the athletic and productive RF that Hendry wants and Jones will be traded. As much as Hendry likes Jones, he is gaga over Pie. This is a good point. Jacque Jones may fit the Jim Hendry mold pretty well, but the fact is that Hendry likes Pie as much or more than he liked Corey Patterson. Once he feels Pie is ready I'm sure Felix will get every chance to get a starting job.
  22. I thought they were going to try and lock-up Pierre long term. This doesn't mean they can't. They've done this lots of times _ avoid arbitration and then sign a guy to a multiyear deal in spring training. they did it last season with Aramis, and nearly gave me a heart attack when they waited til opening day to sign him long term to that goofy contract. BTW, Bruce, has there been any indication of Aramis wanting to exercise that opt out clause? Ramirez repeatedly has said he wants to stay with the Cubs. There's been no talk of him opting out, but if he hits 40 HR and drives in a ton of runs with an OBP of .356, all bets might be off. I'm sorry Mr. Miles. I understand that you write for an established newspaper. How do you know what OBP is? Nicely played. Stick with the Daily Herald, the only paper in town that routinely gives OBP figures in stories and dares to dip in to the dangerous waters of sabermetrics. No way. You should be more like the guys on ESPN 1000 and talk a lot about pitchers' W-L records. RUSS ORTIZ 2003 CY YOUNG AWARD WINNER DUDE HE WON 20 GAMES OMG LOLZ!!!!!11111!!!!ONEONE
  23. I own a "They Gone! Since 1917" shirt that I bought for fun last summer. Naturally it's worth nothing now.
  24. I agree with Truff re: not reading too much into it. Aaron Rodgers didn't get a single Division I offer out of high school, and LaDainian Tomlinson was ignored by just about everybody except for WAC teams because he didn't start till his senior year.
  25. Well, my prediction of "No one will pick the Cubs to win the Central" was clearly off.
