  1. I'm sick of the cute little DC "Generals", "Senators", "Nationals" puns. Can't we give them a regular nickname? If we're just going to name teams after people that live or work there, then why not Florida Retirees, Pittsburgh Steel-Workers, L.A. Rich People, Seattle Coffee Drinkers, etc?
  2. Worries me as well, but all indications seem to be that the Cubs like Murton the way he is, aren't expecting him to be a human power machine and will give him more than adequate starting time in LF to prove himself. As for him bulking up, I don't look at that as worrisome. Murton really wasn't all that big to begin with, so the added weight is more likely to add energy so he won't wear down at the end of the year than it is to focus on hitting more homers.
  3. The US can't score on an open shot, but stick 50 people in front of the net and they're golden. Russia leads the US 3-2 after two despite the Americans largely dominating the offensive end. The game is essentially meaningless because we play Finland tomorrow, win, lose, or tie.
  4. I suppose I can understand the Weeks love, even though his BA was .239 last year and he had a sub-.400 SLG. But Hardy??? The guy that carried a BA under .200 into July?
  5. I'm not sure Dusty CAN ruin Carlos's arm. Lord knows he's tried to run him into the ground at various points over the last two seasons, but Carlos just keeps throwing and never seems to have any trouble. That's what I love about the guy. He's an old-fashioned horse and he wants to pitch a complete game every single time out.
  6. I've said it before, I'll say it again. If it is really more important to Jim Hendry that no one on his team be the least bit outspoken than to field the best team he can possibly put out there, he should be fired RIGHT NOW.
  7. SP - Zambrano SP - Carpenter SP - Prior SP - Oswalt SP - Sheets RP - Lidge RP - Isringhausen RP - Dempster RP - Turnbow RP - Qualls C - Barrett 1B - Pujols 2B - Walker 3B - Ramirez SS - Lopez OF - Bay OF - Dunn OF - C. Lee Key Bench Players - DLee, Edmonds, Griffey, Rolen
  8. Could you capitalize the first words of your sentences, please? And it is spelled Buehrle. Sorry for being an ass but I have a pet peeve with grammar.
  9. I agree there should be restrictions on the size of the armor. Thanks to the armor Bonds gets away with leaning out over the plate and shrinking the zone, and it also lets him use a tiny bat while still covering the whole plate. Then he gets all hissy when a pitcher throws inside. There are restrictions now however when the rule was created Bond's armor was grandfathered in. :? When did he start using the armor? It's possible that depending on his start date of the armor, that it had just as much an effect on his HR totals as the juice did.
  10. None of them are worth that much. They were both overpaid and Lee would certainly be overpaid at 15 a year. That's the market now. Do you refuse to pay big money to big stars because the market's inflated? I'm not saying we should be the Yankees, but we also shouldn't be Kansas City. Damon isn't a star and didn't deserve that much money. Neither is Furcal. Tell me, how did the contract that the Mets gave to Beltran work out? In order for a team to pay a player that much money at 30-31 years of age or older, they better have one hell of a track record in my opinion. Beltran DID have a pretty damn good track record. Why he fell off so precipitously is a mystery to some. FWIW, if the Cubs were to give DLee 15M a year, he wouldn't have to adjust to a new team, as Beltran, Beltre and other recent FA busts have had to do.
  11. I don't see how the Steelbirds are supposed to build up interest.
  12. I'd offer something to the effect of 4/55 with a 16M fifth year option and see if he bit, then give him 4/60 if that's what he wants. DLee will get much more than that, and not from us, if he goes on the market.
  13. When Carlos Zambrano breathes in the cold, he can't see his breath. This is because his breath is hiding from him.
  14. The fact that Carlos Zambrano has won 32 games in the last two seasons is the truest indicator there is of how pathetically meaningless the win stat is, considering that he is behind only Clemens and Santana in terms of performance over the last two seasons. I look forward to more Z strikeouts, masterpieces, and antics. :) He's probably my favorite current Cub.
  15. I will give Shani credit for not taking his post-medal ceremony interview to take a dig at Hedrick tonight. However, I'm just eager for more speed skating. It's one of my favorite events.
  16. I wouldn't worry about it. Most on NSBB seem to agree with your thoughts. I personally can't see continued sanctions working. I saw no recourse but to invade. Sanctions don't seem to have worked on Iran and North Korea (I think there are/were sanctions on them, right?) if they are to be believed when they say they have the capability to or already have nukes.
  17. No huge gripe, but the site seems to be operating slower than usual these days. Nothing too worrisome, just an FYI.
  18. I agree Davis has been acting selfish. The trouble is though------Hedrick is being just as selfish. Think about it, just for a second. The only way Hedrick wins 5 GOLD medals is to take the 1,000 meter. The only way he wins the 1,000 meter is by tiring Davis out. The only way he tires Davis out is by getting him to skate more events. Hedrick was never in the running for 5 Gold medals, unless Davis handed the 1,000 to him. So you're telling me Davis is selfish for not handing it to him? How about HEDRICK being selfish for wanting Davis to sacrifice his Olympic dream? Huh? It's a 2 way street. Unfortunately, in typical American media fashion, only one side is being reported. Hedrick is just as much of a self-centered prick as Davis. So why is he being treated like a hero and Davis like trash? That's completely unfair. Anyone who is honest with themselves must concede that much. The "Hedrick is trying to tire out Davis" conspiracy theory is entertaining, but if Hedrick actually thought he had a shot at a gold in 1,000m even with a tired Shani going, he was very much mistaken, because he finished 6th. This just seems like two people who are very bitter at one another, and probably for reasons that go beyond backing out of a team competition.
  19. You forgot the part where he was hulked up on flaxseed oil those two seasons. Goodbye in advance, Barry, and thanks for not ruining the most hallowed of all baseball records. Thanks also for charging the mound on Prior when he dared throw somewhere near your 10 pounds of body armor.
  20. Z may lose it a little when his D screws up, but he is twice as much more positive when a great defensive play is made. After that CPatt catch and double off against Milwaukee on 6/28, Z was jumping up and down like a 6-year-old on Christmas. :D
  21. Once we're out I've gotta root for Sweden. Holmstrom, Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Lilja will represent the Wings well. Damn, so close to a shot for Tkachuk but he was offsides.
  22. Shani Davis might be the worst interview ever. It was pretty clear that there were things on his mind other than the fact that he just won a freaking Olympic gold medal... As for Hedrick's behavior, I think those two must just hate each other and make a point of taking a shot at the other whenever they can, i.e. Kobe/Shaq. I'm sure Hedrick's a good guy overall but when it comes to Shani he is just very sensitive, as can be seen in his quote "It annoys me because I've won a gold medal and here we are talking about him" (said before Shani won one of his own).
  23. If I'm not mistaken, and I am not, Stone was the consumate professional and always diplomatic throughout his analyst career, until 2004. suddenly his sarcasm is biting, his tone sharp, and his opinions expressed in manor that does not merely state his opinion, but takes swipes at one organization in particular. the differencec is obvious. It could be one reason why his knowledge is so well-respected, yet nobody is willing to offer him a shot at GM. He definitely likes to hold a grudge----though I do think he got a raw deal from the Cubs. After all, the only thing he did was compliment Oswalt's performance at Wrigley. Why that set the whole organization off I will never know. 2004........the ultimate nightmare season in so many ways. How did Stone get a "raw deal" from the cubs? He turned down an offer by the organization to extend his contract (even though Carey was leaving). He chose to leave and has been bitter ever since. Stone may have chosen to leave, but only because Chip was pushed out the door by the Cubs. Personally, I think the Cubs forced both out. I don't think it's coincidence that the so-called "divisive" broadcasters left along with every other Cub that caused any problem at all in 2004 (Mercker, Alou, Sammy, et al.)
  24. ND beats Seton Hall 102-91 to move into a tie for the all-important 12th spot in the Big East, but a trip to top-ranked UConn looms on Tuesday night. They win the game wearing new black jerseys, and two Irish score above 30, as star Chris Quinn puts up 34 and 3-point ace Colin Falls contributes 32.
