  1. Just when I was about to launch my "Seton Hall beat the crap out of NC State in Raleigh so it's quite obvious the Big East is much better than the ACC" salvo... I remember last year Ball State was 9-0 at home going into the Marshall game and I believe the Herd had two wins, but the referees proceeded to give every judgment call to Marshall plus calling about twice as many fouls on us as them, and we lost the game by nine. I was a very unhappy guy that day.
  2. Until LeBron averages over 40 points a game - in an NBA Finals - against the team with the best record in the league (93 vs Suns), then MJ is still beyond LeBron-range discussion.
  3. Wow, Toledo is awful. Of course, the whole MAC West is awful. On Saturday BSU was 0-5 in conference - on Thursday they could move to 2nd place in the MAC West by beating W. Michigan.
  4. ND gets 3 shots at their final shot, and Falls, Kurz and McAlarney all miss. ND has now lost 5 conference games by a total of 20 points. :x
  5. 85-82 Georgetown with 10 seconds left. ND ball.
  6. Ball State crushed Central Michigan tonight, no big surprise as the Chippewas are terrible. 68-41 was the final. ND is currently in double OT with Georgetown, trailing 79-78 with 4 minutes left.
  7. Oh, they would have? How did they do against MSU this past season? Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten after watching the mighty Penn State go from a perennial powerhouse as an indy to getting knocked around like a good team should. In the Big Ten, ND would be the next Minnesota. Actually, Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten because they have a network TV deal that pays them a crapload of money and because they have no trouble at all making out a 12 game schedule without the help of a conference. If the Big Ten wanted ND they should have bought low and taken them back in the 1920s and 30s when they kept refusing the Irish admission. And I'd judge that over the next decade or so, ND will be better than most of the top-tier Big Ten tams.
  8. Fixed. Well then except for Louisville and WV there's no point having this discussion, because ND either completely plastered or would have completely plastered all the other teams on this list.
  9. I not only don't buy it, I think it's bunk. I haven't read anything to suggest Walker is unpopular in the clubhouse.
  10. Pretty awful deal for Philly if Michaels is as good as promised.
  11. Notre Dame isn't interested in joining so that's a dead topic... I voted for Pitt. You'd think it makes all the sense in the world for both sides. Reinivigorate the old Pitt-PSU rivalry, and get a Big 10 championship game.
  12. Kobe, barely. I just think that if Kobe had Ilgauskas (or if LeBron had Mihm if you want to look at it that way) that Kobe would be in a much better position to help his team win more games.
  13. I'm starting to feel the same way. I've been going to the same Super Bowl party for several years, and I'm probably going to again, but right now I just want to sit 12 inches from my TV at home, with nobody else there, and concentrate fully. I keep having this thought of everyone else critiquing commercials and making fun of the halftime show and all of the other stuff I usually do, except this year when that happens I might explode. This is why I had no plans whatsoever of going to a Super Bowl party had Carolina made it. I had two friends over to watch the Panthers/Pats two years ago and it was fine because they were both big football fans too, but I couldn't stand watching it with people who don't care that much. As of now, I might go to a party if I find out about one.
  14. First year in a very competitive conference for DePaul. I think it'll only help in the long run. Yep...no Purdues or Penn States to beat up on in this league. For every Purdue, PSU, or Northwestern, there's a Providence, South Florida, or Depaul. I submit that DePaul would destroy any of those three Big 10 teams listed. Don't fret Derwood, at least you beat us - at a game I was at. :x
  15. I would consider Detroit our biggest rival with New York second. Indiana and Cleveland are rivals too but not on the level of the Pistons and Knicks.
  16. The Monday night game means nothing to me, as ESPN always blacks those out, since Muncie, at 4.5 hours away, is definitely right in the Chicagoland area.
  17. He could never get lefthanded hitter out. That wasn't his area. He was a relief pitcher that should be used against right handers. You should have told Baker that. Steve Stone did. And got fired for it.
  18. Beat me to it. Regardless, the point needs to be beaten in the ground some more. Key phrase in my post: "when one of the big three inevitably suffers a FLUKE injury"
  19. Interesting - for me it looks like (only 3 teams here though): 4 playoff appearances (2 Panthers, 1 Bulls, 1 Cubs - .57 a year) 13 playoff wins (5 Panthers, 2 Bulls, 6 Cubs - 3.25 an appearance) 1 playoff series win (.5 per appearance by a series team) 1 championship round appearance (Panthers SB 38 ) 0 championships I've had it better than I complain about, I suppose. Only problem is, with Carolina's murderous schedule this year compared with the Cubs' mediocre offseason and the Bulls' young uns, it's probably going to be at least February 2008 before another pro team of mine wins the big one. But, like you said UMFan, MJ made it worth it. See I'd count the Panthers winning as a playoff series win. By that I meant advance to the next round (meaning that you aren't like most of my teams that are 1 and done - like the Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls are) Of course, none of my teams has has as bad of a season as the Panthers had in 2001 (1-15) The best part of that season was that they won in Minnesota in week 1, then proceeded to blow 11 second half leads and 1 second half tie in the next 13 games, before they eventually just gave up and let themselves be completely destroyed in the last two games. It was a sad thing to watch.
  20. I'm operating under the assumption that Wood will miss April - roughly the amount of time Wade will. So in April we'll have: Prior Z Maddux Williams Rusch Then once Wood and Wade get back it should be: Prior Z Wood Maddux Williams/Rusch/Miller I like the thought of having three guys who are all pretty decent competing for the 5th starter job. I'd bet on Williams getting it, then when one of the big three inevitably suffers a fluke injury, Miller can replace them adequately. To make a long story short, the pitching staff gives me hope.
  21. Interesting - for me it looks like (only 3 teams here though): 4 playoff appearances (2 Panthers, 1 Bulls, 1 Cubs - .57 a year) 13 playoff wins (5 Panthers, 2 Bulls, 6 Cubs - 3.25 an appearance) 6 playoff series win (1.5 an appearance) 1 championship round appearance (Panthers SB 38 ) 0 championships I've had it better than I complain about, I suppose. Only problem is, with Carolina's murderous schedule this year compared with the Cubs' mediocre offseason and the Bulls' young uns, it's probably going to be at least February 2008 before another pro team of mine wins the big one. But, like you said UMFan, MJ made it worth it. Edited to agree with UMFan's suggestion.
  22. I'll take 10 out of the top 100 (6 in top 50) for year 1 of Weis recruiting :)
  23. I wonder if this injury was caused by getting hit by a pitch against the Cubs in August 2004. Oh no, wait...
  24. Anyone remember John VanderWal? Never had over 250 at-bats in a season until he was 34. Goes to Pittsburgh, gets a career-high 461 plate appearances, and had a very good season. The next year, gets 526 plate appearances, and while his numbers fell a little, he still put up a productive .270/.364/.442. Vander Wal was a Cub killer as I recall. Then again, everyone was in the late 90s-early 00s.
