  1. I will give Shani credit for not taking his post-medal ceremony interview to take a dig at Hedrick tonight. However, I'm just eager for more speed skating. It's one of my favorite events.
  2. I wouldn't worry about it. Most on NSBB seem to agree with your thoughts. I personally can't see continued sanctions working. I saw no recourse but to invade. Sanctions don't seem to have worked on Iran and North Korea (I think there are/were sanctions on them, right?) if they are to be believed when they say they have the capability to or already have nukes.
  3. No huge gripe, but the site seems to be operating slower than usual these days. Nothing too worrisome, just an FYI.
  4. I agree Davis has been acting selfish. The trouble is though------Hedrick is being just as selfish. Think about it, just for a second. The only way Hedrick wins 5 GOLD medals is to take the 1,000 meter. The only way he wins the 1,000 meter is by tiring Davis out. The only way he tires Davis out is by getting him to skate more events. Hedrick was never in the running for 5 Gold medals, unless Davis handed the 1,000 to him. So you're telling me Davis is selfish for not handing it to him? How about HEDRICK being selfish for wanting Davis to sacrifice his Olympic dream? Huh? It's a 2 way street. Unfortunately, in typical American media fashion, only one side is being reported. Hedrick is just as much of a self-centered prick as Davis. So why is he being treated like a hero and Davis like trash? That's completely unfair. Anyone who is honest with themselves must concede that much. The "Hedrick is trying to tire out Davis" conspiracy theory is entertaining, but if Hedrick actually thought he had a shot at a gold in 1,000m even with a tired Shani going, he was very much mistaken, because he finished 6th. This just seems like two people who are very bitter at one another, and probably for reasons that go beyond backing out of a team competition.
  5. You forgot the part where he was hulked up on flaxseed oil those two seasons. Goodbye in advance, Barry, and thanks for not ruining the most hallowed of all baseball records. Thanks also for charging the mound on Prior when he dared throw somewhere near your 10 pounds of body armor.
  6. Z may lose it a little when his D screws up, but he is twice as much more positive when a great defensive play is made. After that CPatt catch and double off against Milwaukee on 6/28, Z was jumping up and down like a 6-year-old on Christmas. :D
  7. Once we're out I've gotta root for Sweden. Holmstrom, Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Lilja will represent the Wings well. Damn, so close to a shot for Tkachuk but he was offsides.
  8. Shani Davis might be the worst interview ever. It was pretty clear that there were things on his mind other than the fact that he just won a freaking Olympic gold medal... As for Hedrick's behavior, I think those two must just hate each other and make a point of taking a shot at the other whenever they can, i.e. Kobe/Shaq. I'm sure Hedrick's a good guy overall but when it comes to Shani he is just very sensitive, as can be seen in his quote "It annoys me because I've won a gold medal and here we are talking about him" (said before Shani won one of his own).
  9. If I'm not mistaken, and I am not, Stone was the consumate professional and always diplomatic throughout his analyst career, until 2004. suddenly his sarcasm is biting, his tone sharp, and his opinions expressed in manor that does not merely state his opinion, but takes swipes at one organization in particular. the differencec is obvious. It could be one reason why his knowledge is so well-respected, yet nobody is willing to offer him a shot at GM. He definitely likes to hold a grudge----though I do think he got a raw deal from the Cubs. After all, the only thing he did was compliment Oswalt's performance at Wrigley. Why that set the whole organization off I will never know. 2004........the ultimate nightmare season in so many ways. How did Stone get a "raw deal" from the cubs? He turned down an offer by the organization to extend his contract (even though Carey was leaving). He chose to leave and has been bitter ever since. Stone may have chosen to leave, but only because Chip was pushed out the door by the Cubs. Personally, I think the Cubs forced both out. I don't think it's coincidence that the so-called "divisive" broadcasters left along with every other Cub that caused any problem at all in 2004 (Mercker, Alou, Sammy, et al.)
  10. ND beats Seton Hall 102-91 to move into a tie for the all-important 12th spot in the Big East, but a trip to top-ranked UConn looms on Tuesday night. They win the game wearing new black jerseys, and two Irish score above 30, as star Chris Quinn puts up 34 and 3-point ace Colin Falls contributes 32.
  11. He was scheduled to participate in a combined event and backed out so he could put more attention on his individual event. So, athletes are obligated to hurt their individual chances to try and win a team medal? Give the guy a break - all those whining about not winning that event should have performed better in their individual events. Uh, if you're SCHEDULED then yeah, you're obligated. Apolo loses to the two Koreans in short track. Too bad.
  12. so let me get this straight. because he now has money he doesn't know what it's like to be from another country? aren't most of you people with the "if your last name ends in a vowel you can play for italy" jokes, but when ozzie basically says the same stuff he's wrong? hmm. I don't know what you are talking about with the Italy jokes, but the point is that A-Rod and Nomar both had parents that were full-blooded members of their own countries. Now if I were to use my great-grandfather's emigration from Germany as a reason to play for Germany in a competition, then it would be ridiculous. But A-Rod and Nomar are about as much Dominican and Mexican respectively as any major league player, and Ozzie knew that and decided to pop off anyway.
  13. Three different sigs of Sammy hopping back-to-back-to-back :)

    TV Schedule

Downright blasphemous. Especially if there are playoff implications. Im sure the Sox get WGN that day I hope the Cubs are in the middle of a tight division race and the Sox are stinking it up. Then maybe the Sox will be switched to CSN and WGN will pick up the Cubs game. I hope the Sox are in the middle of a tight division race and the Cubs run away with the Central so the game won't get picked up by WGN. :P
  15. Fro those who don't understand the Gumbel allusion, he made a ridiculous comment the other day basically saying that the Winter Olympics aren't valid events because not enough black people participate. I believe the exact phrasing was "as white as a GOP convention" (the rare double-stereotype - blacks are automatically athletic AND they're all Democrats - of a race BY that race). Way to go Shani Davis, and thanks for costing us a medal in team pursuit, you selfish prick.
  16. A ridiculous touch foul call on a 3-point shot with .7 seconds left breaks a tie and leads to Tennessee State edging Ball State 70-69. The good news: Star guard Peyton Stovall, who tore his ACL just 2 1/2 months ago, is seen before the game in full uniform shooting around.
  17. I love how 23% voted that he never used steroids, then only 15% believed he would have hit 588 home runs without them.
  18. Gerber's glove save on Nash was unbelievable! Great performance by the Swiss! Huge upset! Could SWITZERLAND win the gold in hockey?
  19. I love how just in my time here, you've gone from Darth Vader war veterans to squirrels with lightsabers to Conan O'Brien to Bush and Bono to murderous cats to Viggo Mortensen with a guitar in your sigs and avs with no real rhyme or reason to the changes. :D
  20. Now come on guys, Lindsey was just getting herself set for the landing on that jump. She said so herself. Maybe she was distracted by her Visa Check Card getting stolen. Between Bode and Weir running their mouths and winning nothing, the hockey team tying LATVIA, Ohno falling down, Shani Davis refusing to compete in team pursuit, and now Jacobellis losing gold on a showboat move, it's hard to root for this US team.
  21. Ponson, obviously. Lance Berkman and Conjoined Fetus Lady from the Astros. Craig Wilson and his mullet from Pittsburgh. Derrick "Big Nose" Turnbow from Milwaukee. And anyone on the Reds.
  22. fixed :P Low blow, dude.
  23. I didn't think any possible way Sammy would hit it. Went utterly insane when he did. What an amazing moment. He really did have a very good playoffs that year as I recall.
  24. I really like the look of PNC and hope to make it there for a game someday. Wrigley and the Cell are unfortunately the only big league parks I've seen close up in person.
