  1. I'll concede that Pierre could and probably will be more important and more effective than Murton will this year, but I think that Matt will easily outproduce French Chocolate this year.
  2. Oh no please tell me you don't think Murton is our best OF. Thats just ridiculous. Ummm, who's better? Pierre or Jockstrap Jones?
  3. Now THIS is a true fan. Getting shipped to Iraq and the first thing he thinks about is how it affects his Cub-watching. :D I'm sure you'll make us all proud when you get back out there, Jehrico!
  4. I want to see Edmonds stand back and admire a home run when the Cubs are ahead by 9 and for Zambrano to scream at him again. That would be fun.
  5. The guys on BBB.net seemed to think that Ben might call his dunk the Question Mark, and that the Dore thing was a joke because right after he said that there was laughter.
  6. If only Chandler hadn't had such a rough start to the year, because the way he's playing now he could have competed for the Defensive POY. Two absolutely sick blocks. And Gordon is clutch. But we all knew that. :D
  7. You forgot Williamson in that group. Except for Howry, I think he'd be the one to close over all those other relievers. JH didn't do a good job at all on the outfield, but even an average Eyre and Howry plus the other guys should equal to one of the better bullpens in the majors this year.
  8. You haven't seen bad basketball until you've seen Ball State at the end of any close games. They lose again tonight, 62-56 against Western. They missed at least 5 or 6 easy lay-ins. The wildly inconsistent officiating didn't help. Neither did the completely and utterly worthless Pat Nelson.
  9. That year was 2003. I hope it isn't the last. IIRC, Prior crashed into Giles in 2003 and missed 2 or 3 starts because of it, so even that year wasn't a completely healthy one.
  10. Wood is a member of the Cubs, whereas Sheets is a member of one of the Cubs' competitors. Just that piece of information alone doubles the odds that Wood will get hurt and Sheets won't.
  11. Keep it coming! We all enjoy ND losing! :D I'm kidding (sort of) - I was shocked to see ND come back in this game. I'm no longer surprised by anything this team does. The lengths it will go to break the hearts of the South Bend faithful is amazing. At this point, I'm fully expecting ND to get to the Big East title game, have a big lead on their opponent, blow it, go to OT, take another big lead, blow it and lose, closely followed by the committee having ND as their first team out of the tournament. I mean, if I weren't an ND fan myself, I'd marvel at this season. You almost have to try to lose this many close games without getting a break yourself.
  12. To revise the numbers, it's now 9 Big East losses...by 27 points...in 6 overtime periods. (3) Uconn 75, ND 74. In Hartford. I honestly can't believe this. Edited to add some more numbers: Seven of those nine losses were to the top 7 teams in the standings of what is, by far, the best conference in the nation and quite possibly the best conference ever in one year. ND went on a 25-2 run at one point in this game, and I'd be reasonably sure that no team has ever gone on a 25-2 run or more and lost a game before. Ever. If just three of these games had gone the other way (I'll pick Nova, WV and this game because those were probably the closest three), then ND would be standing at 16-8 (7-6) and there'd be no doubt of their NCAA worthiness. As it is they're 13-11 (4-9) and will probably need to win out and get to the Big East title game, at least, to sneak in the back door. I hate to just keep on complaining and reeling off these numbers after every close loss, but I have just never seen anything like this in my life.
  13. Provided Walker isn't traded and gets the playing time he has earned over the last two seasons, I'd expect him to be the best 2B in the division and for it not really to be close.
  14. I'm sick of the cute little DC "Generals", "Senators", "Nationals" puns. Can't we give them a regular nickname? If we're just going to name teams after people that live or work there, then why not Florida Retirees, Pittsburgh Steel-Workers, L.A. Rich People, Seattle Coffee Drinkers, etc?
  15. Worries me as well, but all indications seem to be that the Cubs like Murton the way he is, aren't expecting him to be a human power machine and will give him more than adequate starting time in LF to prove himself. As for him bulking up, I don't look at that as worrisome. Murton really wasn't all that big to begin with, so the added weight is more likely to add energy so he won't wear down at the end of the year than it is to focus on hitting more homers.
  16. The US can't score on an open shot, but stick 50 people in front of the net and they're golden. Russia leads the US 3-2 after two despite the Americans largely dominating the offensive end. The game is essentially meaningless because we play Finland tomorrow, win, lose, or tie.
  17. I suppose I can understand the Weeks love, even though his BA was .239 last year and he had a sub-.400 SLG. But Hardy??? The guy that carried a BA under .200 into July?
  18. I'm not sure Dusty CAN ruin Carlos's arm. Lord knows he's tried to run him into the ground at various points over the last two seasons, but Carlos just keeps throwing and never seems to have any trouble. That's what I love about the guy. He's an old-fashioned horse and he wants to pitch a complete game every single time out.
  19. I've said it before, I'll say it again. If it is really more important to Jim Hendry that no one on his team be the least bit outspoken than to field the best team he can possibly put out there, he should be fired RIGHT NOW.
  20. SP - Zambrano SP - Carpenter SP - Prior SP - Oswalt SP - Sheets RP - Lidge RP - Isringhausen RP - Dempster RP - Turnbow RP - Qualls C - Barrett 1B - Pujols 2B - Walker 3B - Ramirez SS - Lopez OF - Bay OF - Dunn OF - C. Lee Key Bench Players - DLee, Edmonds, Griffey, Rolen
  21. Could you capitalize the first words of your sentences, please? And it is spelled Buehrle. Sorry for being an ass but I have a pet peeve with grammar.
  22. I agree there should be restrictions on the size of the armor. Thanks to the armor Bonds gets away with leaning out over the plate and shrinking the zone, and it also lets him use a tiny bat while still covering the whole plate. Then he gets all hissy when a pitcher throws inside. There are restrictions now however when the rule was created Bond's armor was grandfathered in. :? When did he start using the armor? It's possible that depending on his start date of the armor, that it had just as much an effect on his HR totals as the juice did.
  23. None of them are worth that much. They were both overpaid and Lee would certainly be overpaid at 15 a year. That's the market now. Do you refuse to pay big money to big stars because the market's inflated? I'm not saying we should be the Yankees, but we also shouldn't be Kansas City. Damon isn't a star and didn't deserve that much money. Neither is Furcal. Tell me, how did the contract that the Mets gave to Beltran work out? In order for a team to pay a player that much money at 30-31 years of age or older, they better have one hell of a track record in my opinion. Beltran DID have a pretty damn good track record. Why he fell off so precipitously is a mystery to some. FWIW, if the Cubs were to give DLee 15M a year, he wouldn't have to adjust to a new team, as Beltran, Beltre and other recent FA busts have had to do.
