  1. Is it just me or do the cameras really like to show Mad Dog talking to someone in the dugout - anyone at all?
  2. Something tells me Murt was anxious to prove he could hit cleanup :x
  3. Ironically, Murt is the guy that grounds out on the first pitch - he's not looking too good the last week...
  4. Three full counts from Cub hitters
  5. I wonder what Joe Morgan thought of Pierre's check swing on 2-2.
  6. Brenly: "When the music stopped, Brandon Phillips was the closest to 2nd base, so he gets the start."
  7. Aurilia sits down. Really good job with the "other" hitters.
  8. Filthy 0-1 pitch by Z. His stuff looks good today even though Dunn took him deep.
  9. I sat Maddux yesterday. No way he pitches great again with the wind blowing out, right? Oops.
  10. I'll go with 2 - but they'll both be costly.
  11. Speaking of Rusch, the Trib seemed to think Dusty is going to let him make his scheduled start on Sunday: That means Marshall, Williams and Rusch are our starters this weekend. Umm...let's get some runs!
  12. Lineups from MLB.com: Pierre CF Hairston 2B Lee 1B Murton LF Pagan RF Cedeno SS Neifi 3B Blanco C Z P Freel CF Lopez SS Dunn LF Aurilia 3B Hatteberg 1B Kearns RF Phillips 2B Ross C Milton P
  13. I think everyone who hits a home run the last couple of weeks is on your HR Derby list, XZero.
  14. Recommendation: Pierre Cedeno Lee Murton Hairston Blanco Pagan Neifi Ok, seriously, there's no good way to do this.
  15. In case anyone doesn't know yet, the Bulls/Wizards game tomorrow night is at 8 pm ET on ESPN.
  16. Look, I still have a lot of man-love left for Ricky Manning because he made an inhuman one-handed INT against STL in the 03 playoffs to set up the greatest football moment of my life (the Smith TD) and because he picked Philly 3 more times the following week. But the guy just can't cover receivers all that well. If you get Manning as a nickelback he'd be good, but if he's your 2nd corner you might be in trouble.
  17. Absolutely. The same thing happened last year and Ramirez ended up close to Lee's numbers in HR and RBI before he was shut down, so he'll be fine. Actually AR had a 1.033 OPS after the first week of last season. He started out a little slower than that in 2004, though. So there's no real trend for him. OK, but after the first month of last season, he was batting .241 with only 4 home runs (his lowest totals of the year in both categories). Only the fact that he drew an above-average (for him) 13 walks in April kept his OBP at a fairly solid .344.
  18. It of course has nothing to do with Prior and Wood battling injuries. nor did Blanco's CERA have anything to do with being Zambrano's personal catcher. I've heard alot of this "everyone prefers pitching to Blanco" stuff, but I don't think I have ever heard it from anyone from the Cubs organization. plus, even if the pitchers do prefer pitching to Blanco, that doesn't mean that they would prefer Blanco starting when they are pitching, as Blanco can't hit. That's what I was thinking. Who says "all our pitchers prefer pitching to Blanco"? I've never heard that in my life. Not even speculation to that effect. That myth started when Prior pitched to Bako at the end of 2004 and had a very good September, then started pitching to Blanco on a semiregular basis. Ever since, it's been "Cubs pitchers can't stand Barrett".
  19. Absolutely. The same thing happened last year and Ramirez ended up close to Lee's numbers in HR and RBI before he was shut down, so he'll be fine.
