  1. I really don't feel like explaining, AGAIN, that there were a billion factors coming into play into that decision, many of them that weren't even sports-related. But why let facts get in the way of a really good bias? Notre Dame jealousy makes me laugh. School pride from people who didn't go to said school makes me laugh. That's ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many people on this board root for college teams they didn't attend? You might as well say you can't root for the Cubs unless you've tried out for the team.
  2. Dunno where these stats came from, but ND beat Michigan in their 2004 home opener, so actually they just lost their last one.
  3. Smith may yet win the Heisman but I don't think this will be the game that does it. He'll have to outscore Texas if their NIU game was any indication of their defense.
  4. Remember when they said Miller would be back June 15?
  5. I can already tell that BSU-IU is the biggest game of my four years here, and I'm only a junior. Everyone here is jacked beyond recognition for the game and there's a better than good chance that over 2/3 of the student body will be attending, which would shatter the previous record for student attendance (2004 against Boston College).
  6. --Joe Paterno If he, or anyone for that matter, believes that Penn State has half the history of Notre Dame then he really is completely senile. another golden domer crawls out of the woodwork Well, the statement of half is stretching it, but Penn State certainly does not have the overall history of ND. Overall Record ND-811-266-42 (75.3 win percent (excluding ties)) Penn State-771-339-42 (69.4 win percent) Overall Titles ND-11 Penn State-2 Titles Since Paterno took over ND-4 Penn State-2 When comparing overall history, Penn State has been a very good football team-not in the class of ND though-Penn State has the 3rd best overall winning percentage in the Big 10. Now-does that give ND an advantage on Saturday? Of course not-but there are significant differences in their overall histories. Penn State got robbed in at least two years IMO too, 69 and 94. In 69 they had Franco Harris AND Lydell Mitchell....wow. FWIW, I submit 1993, when FSU and ND both finished 11-1, ND beat FSU in head to head play, and the pollsters gave it to FSU under the little-known "if one coach already has a title, then give it to the other out of sympathy" clause. Wouldn't have been so infuriating except that in 1989 Miami and ND were in the same situation (Miami beat ND, two one-loss teams) and they gave it to Miami, as well they should have, then reversed their logic four years later.

  8. No it isn't. It's a stupid play. They should've been able to get that challenge on the field much quicker than they did.
  9. He misses Neifi Perez too.
  10. May 5th, 2000. Sammy and EY both hit solo homers. Cubs lose 4-2 to Pittsburgh. Tapani loses to Todd Ritchie.
  11. I like Adewale Ogunleye better Hahaha, talk about a trade everyone knew was bad as soon as it went down
  12. I take it you were up in arms when Sosa beat McGwire for the MVP in 1998, then? I was 11, so I don't think I really had much of an educated opinion. Ah, I see. Well, I will say that Howard will likely finish with numbers basically as good as Sosa's, and his competition will have numbers significantly worse than McGwire. Pujols's team will make the playoffs, and Howard's team may not. Warrants mentioning.
  13. Hahahaha, being a fan of this worthless team is almost worth it for the comedy of it all
  14. So much for the possibility of Carolina having everyone healthy going into week 1 for the first time since 2001. :(
  15. --Joe Paterno I'm surprised so far at the lack of media play for this kind of thing. Paterno doesn't exactly hide his dislike for Notre Dame, but if you asked the average fan, they wouldn't know what you were talking about. You'd think it'd be a bigger story that the 2nd winningest coach in big time college football history hates the "university of college football in America" (Kornheiser's words), especially when they are playing on Saturday. Joe hasn't spoken to the media this week and isn't allowing his players. Sometimes the national media doesn't have a clue about college football or more "local" stories, but what they were saying yesterday is true. Paterno has been asked a lot about Charlie Weis, Notre Dame's turnaround, Notre Dame mystique, etc. It's pretty insulting to a guy who has been in college football since Weis was in high school, and built a great football school with a mystique of its own from the ground up. It's not insulting. You don't think Weis has been asked a hundred times about Paterno and the Penn State program? He mentioned at least three different times in a press conference yesterday that what Paterno has done is amazing and joked that he's "too old" to ever touch what JoePa has accomplished. And for the record, Joe, Notre Dame doesn't have names on the back of its jerseys or any insignia on their helmets either. Just making sure you know. Besides, uniforms alone have very little to do with tradition.
  16. I believe that Len knows a lot more about stats and the game and what constitutes a good player than he lets on over the course of a broadcast. And I think the Trib probably has something to do with that.

  18. That is a terrible prediction. More for the Bengals than the Bears, though.
  19. I'll throw my hat in the ATS ring since I do it by myself already: Miami (+1) over PITTSBURGH TAMPA BAY (-3) over Baltimore New Orleans (+3) over CLEVELAND CAROLINA (-5) over Atlanta Seattle (-6.5) over DETROIT Philadelphia (-5.5) over HOUSTON TENNESSEE (-2.5) over NY Jets KANSAS CITY (-2.5) over Cincinnati ST. LOUIS (+4) over Denver NEW ENGLAND (-9) over Buffalo JACKSONVILLE (-2.5) over Dallas GREEN BAY (+3.5) over Chicago ARIZONA (-7.5) over San Francisco Indianapolis (-3.5) over NY GIANTS WASHINGTON (-4.5) over Minnesota San Diego (-3) over OAKLAND And for the record, I picked Carolina over KC in the Super Bowl.
  20. The Lee/Eyre injury (the obvious turning point of the season) happened in LA if that is what you are referring to.
  21. Who's whining? I am pretty sure everyone one here thinks the ND deserved to drop and did not look like a #2 team last week. I didn't see anyone whining either, at least not on this board. Oh well. No I haven't. I don't think I get it, as I checked to see if it would come up a few days ago. Ball State-Purdue next week is supposed to be on it so I'd like to get it if I can.
  22. http://community.heraldonline.com/ :x ugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  23. Hopefully it's not Barrett's nut.... :ohnoes: Let's all say a prayer for Michael's nut. You weren't doing it already?
  24. If Felix gets three hits every time he's annoyed, I can't wait for him to be in a Cubs uniform.
  25. Oh my lord that is amazing!
