  1. We still need that lefthanded bat off the bench(not named Ward). A guy like Klesko could also get some starts in the OF as well. He claims that he is completely healthy again. He has a career .372 OBP and has had the power numbers in the past. Why not throw him a couple mil and see what you can get out of him. Maybe he can bounce back to the player he used to be.
  2. Get Church Hendry then trade Jones for some quality prospects.
  3. Marmol instead. The Nats want pitching Marshall or Marmol instead
  4. Giles isn't coming to the Cubs. They already have DeRosa and Theriot. DeRosa was signed to start and Giles will not sign here in a bench role.
  5. If Olney thinks Soriano will go to center who are some of the RF bats that could be out there via FA or a trade?
  6. Seriously, if we can't get Church, I don't want Jones leaving town. If he could put up a plus .800 OPS again, I think we'd all be more than happy. 06 was only the 2nd time he's put up a +.800 OPS in his career. I would like to move him because I don't think he puts up those numbers again. However, he may be our best option.
  7. The Trib metioned quite a few possible CF targets today. "But most of the remaining alternatives this season are veterans or injury-prone or both, such as Darin Erstad, Bernie Williams and Steve Finley." "Other center fielders who could become available are Milwaukee's Brady Clark and Philadelphia's Aaron Rowand." There is some new names in there that I have not heard. Rowand and Clark sound okay, but I think unless something bigs pops up are best chance is to go with Jones out there. It sounds like the Nats are asking for a lot for Church so he is probably out. I think we should still move Soriano to CF and look for a corner OF bat which I think we could find a little easier.
  8. Bill James predicts Hill to lead the NL in strikeouts :D
  9. I still think they end up putting Soriano in CF
  10. Its quite sad but this thread has gotten to the point that it should just be deleted
  11. No thanks, with A. Jones hitting the market next year he will want at least $20 Mil. a year that I don't think we will have or would want to give him. Why does everyone want to get rid of Starting pitching now that we have a few mediocre arms. We of all fans should know that having a lot of starting pitching is a good thing.
  12. How did I know Vance would jump all over this thread
  13. I don't think you can ever have a problem with to much starting pitching. Problem and to much starting pitching don't even sound right in the same sentence.
  14. A source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that the deal is for $21 million. The source also said that the Cubs are pursuing free agent outfielder Cliff Floyd, who is expected to decide next week between Chicago and Seattle. That makes me a little happier. Just a little.
  15. I'm ok with Marquis at 3/20 but not 3/28. We could have had Suppan for that much. We could have gone after Zito and Batista for that much. I have been defending the Marquis signing all day, but I can't defend a guy getting $9Mil+ a year after having an ERA over 6.
  16. They are. They're not. Great arguments I put forth, huh? What does that have to do with my post? I never said that's what they were aiming for. You implied that was what they were aiming for
  17. There hasn't been on in a while and I don't feel like looking for it. If not Dunn what other left-handed OF bats are out there?
  18. I hate these Dunn threads as much as the next guy. However with our new rotation we are going to need some more hitting, and the Cubs want a left handed hitter. Hello Adam Dunn. The Reds are said to be interested in shopping him. He makes a lot of money for them to take on. We need another power hitting lefty who can play a corner OF spot and move Soriano to CF. We trade Jones, Ohman, Marmol, and some more prospects if we need to to get Dunn. This way Jock get his wich and gets out of town. The Reds get another OF with some pop who is cheaper. They get a solid reliever in Ohman and some good SP prosppects which is something they crave. We get a lefty to hit 6th in our order who has hit some bombs at Wrigley. I remember him hitting one into the bleachers near me and it chipped the concrete, surprisingly it didn't kill anyone. He is a bad defender, but he does have a strong arm that would help him in RF. Trade for Dunn, sign Floyd and call it and offseason CF-Soriano LF-Murton 1B-Lee 3B-A-ram RF-Dunn C-Barrett 2B-DeRosa SS-Izturis Zambrano Lilly Hill Marquis Prior/Miller Let the Dunn Fest begin
  19. How many number one guys did the Cards have this year. Well they had Carp-#1, Suppan-#3 type, and Mulder, Weaver, Reyes, and Marquis all pitched like #5's or worse. Weaver was released. Mulder was hurt all year. After Marquis got rocked in those two games it was all downhill from there. Reyes was up and down. By the way what did they do this year? Thats right they won the World Series with a #1, #3, and 4 #5's.
  20. Check their website. I think me and a friend of mine are going to go to the Bronx and Fenway this year.
  21. One posititve thing is that I think a turn around with Marquis is very possible. He is a ground ball pitcher and last year he couldn't get the ball down and gave up a ton of homers. I think he could quickly get that ball down again and start getting those groundballs and letting Izturis do the rest . Players have good years and bad years and usually regress or progress to previous years performance which would be a good thing with Marquis. I also think that the two slaughters he had to stay in for really hurt his confidence and made him mad at the coaches for making him suffer through that twice. I look for him to have an ERA around 4.4 which is not that bad for a 4th starter.
  22. I'm really disspointed in this. Not really the Marquis part because he is durable and he can't be as bad as last year, but the fact that we (so far) did not get a #2 starter. The Cubs are getting guys but once again not using them right. Lilly is not a #2 and Soriano should not be batting leadoff he should be batting #2 or lower.
  23. Jacque, a reliever (probably Ohman), and some of the kids are going to go somewhere. I'm just not sure where and for what
  24. That trade still doesn't fill out our rotation
  25. Kaplan could have reported that. If its true, thats just sick, a pitcher like Marquis getting almost 10 mil a year?? thats just wrong Its on the stltoday.com website as well, but again its on a message board. If we paid $8mil. for Marquis I will be pissed
