  1. There have been many reports recently saying that the Cubs want more pitching. Hendry was on the score and said that even with Rusch and Williams he is still going to be looking for more starting pitching. Could this be a revelation that he might be shopping the injury prone Wood? I know that you can never have enough pitching but the way Hendry sounded he could looking to move Wood. Would you trade Wood for someone like Adam Dunn(unlikely because they are in the same division) Torii Hunter, Vernon Wells, or maybe even someone like Ichiro? I know this is a little far stretched but I don't think I would have a problem with it as long as we picked up someone like Millwood, Byrd, or Weaver. I dont want Burnett he is just like Wood limitless potential but injury prone and stubborn. What do you guys think?
  2. I really think the Cubs should sign Encarnacion to play right field for the team. I have heard people in other threads say that he is not good. However, he hit as many home runs last year as Brian Giles, plays a much better outfield than Giles and is 6 years younger. Last year I think he only began to break out. I think he can be a 20 homer 85-95 RBI guy who is athletic and young, he also has a pretty good OBP. Encarnacion would be much cheaper than Giles and would put up similar numbers except for the walks and OBP. 2005 Stats G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG 141 506 59 145 27 3 16 76 226 41 104 6 5 .349 .447 .287 What do you guys think?
  3. A three-year offer of more than $21 million from the Padres didn't prevent right fielder Brian Giles, the club's presumptive Most Valuable Player in 2005, from filing for free agency yesterday along with four others. San Diego's offer is "not close" to getting a deal done, Giles' agent, Joe Bick, said yesterday. "I will say that our primary goal all along has been to get Brian re-signed with the San Diego Padres, and nothing has changed as far as that goal is concerned," Bick said. "But things have moved kind of slow, which is fine. I'm not criticizing that. But now they have put themselves into a position where we're allowed to talk to other people." It looks like Giles wants at least 10 mil or more a year, I dont think the Cubs will go that high.
  4. Last year the Cubs paid 18 million to Sammy Sosa, 8M to Nomar, 10M between Hawkins,Remlinger, and Borowski, 4M to Burnitz, 2M to Patterson, this adds up to about 40 million give or take a couple million. I say this because I belie the Cubs could put a very good team on the field with these players: Rafael Furcal for 8M, Brian Giles for about 10-12 Million, Kenny Lofton 2M, Paul Byrd 7M, B.J. Ryan 5M, Rudy Saenez 2M. This adds up to only 35 million so you could get more talent or it pays for Zambrano and Priors raises. Lineup 1. Rafael Furcal SS 2. Kenny Lofton CF 3. Derrek Lee 1B 4. Brian Giles RF 5. Aramis Ramirez 3B 6. Matt Murton LF 7. Walker/Cedeno 2B 8. Barrett C This lineup has a good balance of speed and power. Lee can drive in planty of runs with Furcal and Lofton ahead of him and in a year win Pie is ready he can take Loftons spot. There are also good OBP guys in Lofton, Murton, Giles, and Walker. Rotation Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux Byrd everyone knows what this rotation is capable of and Byrd is a good pitcher who eats up innings. Bullpen Dempster B.J. Ryan Saenz Ohman Wuertz Jerome Williams With this pen nobody scores after the 6th inning. What do you guys think? Get these guys Hendry!!!!!!
