  1. I know this is only a rumor, but as you guys said this deal would get me pretty pumped. This would fill two big holes on our team.
  2. I read on mlbtraderumors.com and heard mentioned for a very short time on the score this morning that the Cubs and Dodgers are talking about a swap that would bring us Milton Bradley and Derek Lowe. I think this would be a great trade for us. I dont know who we would give up but as long as its no one outstanding (which I doubt it would be) I think this would be a great deal.
  3. I have heard on many sites that Jenkins is on the block. I have also heard that the Brewers would really like to move him and his 8 million salary. He batted around .292/.375 last year. With 25 homers and 86 RBI. If the Brewers want to get rid of him, I think he would be a perfect fit between D-Lee and A-ram.
  4. I no that this site isnt really reliable, but it says the deal is complete. Can anyone confirm it or not? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2005/11/juan_pierre_to__2.html
  5. Diamondbacks righthander Javier Vazquez, who has exercised his right to demand a trade, isn't adamant about landing with an East Coast club. A trade to the Cardinals, Cubs or Indians would satisfy his desire to get closer to his native Puerto Rico. ... New Phillies GM Pat Gillick is expected to do something big; right fielder Bobby Abreu would be perfect for the Cubs, giving them a lefthanded slugger to hit between righthanders Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, or for the Mariners, who also want to add lefthanded power. ... Interesting thoughts from his Monday article
  6. I believe Hendry is looking for an impact bat for the order. He has said many times that he would like a lefty bat. I think that he is going to use some of our million prospects to get Abreu. Abreu is on the block and I believe that Hendry is going to make a move for him. Hendry has said that he wants to trade this winter and I think this could be a good fit. Hendrys deals usually remain quiet to until it happens so hopefully this is the case. I think a package of Mitre, Wellemyer, Williams, and a bat could get it done. I really hope I am right about this because that would be a sweet middle of the order. I'll probly get lit up over this but thats OK. You guys think it may happen?
  7. I hate to call you out but if you turn on the Score you will here it. They say it at every update.
  8. The Score is reporting that Scott Eyre could sign a 3 year deal with the Cubs possibly by the end of the day.
  9. Levine said that Hendry has made a long-term offer to Eyre. But we know how reliable Levine is.
  10. Bruce Miles was on and he said that there is about a 40% chance the Cubs trade for Pierre and that number is falling. The Marlins are seeming less interested. He also said theres about 50-60% chance of Furcal coming. He thinks the best fit would be Giles to bat 2nd in front of D Lee.
  11. Poor Bruce Miles captured by the riddler. LOL
  12. I need to know if this Pierre rumor is legit and where it stands. Besides that, is there anything else floating around?
  13. The Score is reporting that Hendry is interested in Bobby Howry. Hes had pretty good numbers the last couple years, but bombed with the White Sox. I don't know if this would be a good signing or not.
  14. That site has no credibility at all. Not one of those moves has taken place and they all say is very close to being done.
  15. Why do you not think that Floyd is not as good a corner OF as Wilkerson is a CF?
  16. Floyds number are better in almost every category. Floyd is an impact bat Wilkerson is not.
  17. They wont trade Dunn in the division it would come back to haunt them to many times, but I could see them trading kearns.
  18. I heard this being discussed last night on the Score. Jim Hendry would like to look into Cliff Floyd again. Hendry was interested in him last year and still is intrigued by him. I think Floyd would be a good fit in between Aramis and Lee. He is a lefty outfield bat with pop and a good OBP. Last year he hit 34 homers, batted .275ish, and his OBP was .370. I think that would fit well in the middle of our order. I also think Hendry might get him because he has been preaching defense all offseason and Floyd had 15 assists last year and only 2 errors. Assuming we got a leadoff hitter would you guys want Floyd?
  19. Its on ESPN.com but its an Insider article.
  20. This was in Peter Gammons new column: The Cubs believe that if Furcal's respect for Bobby Cox doesn't take him back to Atlanta, they have the inside shot at him. They are trying to move Corey Patterson (they offered him to Washington for Brad Wilkerson, and Kevin Mench's name has come up); Matt Murton will play left. Jim Hendry also wants another starter and reliever. "I wouldn't mind having seven starters," said Hendry, who knows that healthy pitching is what wins. That would be awesome if Hendry could land Wilkerson.
  21. No, tries to hit to many homers, crappy fielder, terrible arm, older, will begin declining real quick.
  22. MIAMI -- Free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal has set a price tag of $50 million over five or six years for his next contract, agent Paul Kizner told ESPNdeportes.com. "Things have changed significantly since the free agent period started. There's only one Rafael Furcal available and whoever wants to get him, will have to pay for what he is worth," Kinzer said Friday. "We're looking for a five- or six-year contract, and $50 million is a pretty realistic figure." Furcal's agent says the free agent shortstop is willing to move to the outfield. Furcal had previously said he would look for a contract similar to the one Edgar Renteria signed with the Red Sox before the start of last season, worth 40 million over four years. The 183 players who filed for free agency since the end of the World Series can start negotiating money with all teams starting Friday. Furcal filed for free agency after playing the last six seasons with the Atlanta Braves. Kinzer said at least five teams have contacted him, including the Braves, and are ready to pay what Furcal is asking. The New York Mets, Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals have already shown interest in Furcal, and according to Kinzer, the New York Yankees have also contacted him to know if Furcal would consider playing center field. Depending on who replaces Theo Epstein as general manager, the Boston Red Sox could also join the chase. A move to Fenway Park would mean Furcal would likely not play shortstop unless Renteria is traded. "Raffy is OK with playing shortstop, second base or center field," Kinzer said. "Just give him a glove and he will play wherever you ask him to." Kinzer and Atlanta officials will meet again next week, but there is no schedule for further talks. "There will be a lot of talking now, but I don't expect to sign a contract until the beginning of December," Kinzer said. After a slow start, Furcal ended the season batting .338 in the Braves' last 78 games. He finished the season hitting .278 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI. Furcal also stole 46 bases and scored 100 runs. Furcal, who was the National League's Rookie of the Year in 2000, has a .284 career batting average with 189 stolen bases and 554 runs scored. I believe this is a ploy so that the Cubs think there are teams in the market for Furcal. I know that he wont get that much but if he does that is ridiculous. If Furcal really wants a 5 year 50 million deal we better call up Nomar real quick.
  23. Good post. You make some really great points and hopefully he is not a bust.
  24. Regardless of who we get offensively, as we saw last year pitching wins championships. That being said I think we definitely need another starting pitcher. I would like Washburn or Weaver. Both are inning eaters who also put up good numbers, this would help the rest of the rotation and with Washburn give us a lefty. I also dont think Paul Byrd would be a bad option either to be our fifth man. I dont see us pursuing Millwood or Burnett even though it has been reported that we will. Another starter would be huge for this team I believe, especially someone who can eat innings. Who would you prefer?
