  1. I completely agree with you. Pitching wins championships. So does hitting. Don't even start that garbage (the arguing over who's philosophy is right and who's is wrong) again.
  2. With all of these names for the OF (Drew, Soriano, Lee, Sheffield, Roberts Pierre, Wells) what kind of starter do you think we could get for Jones? I was thinking someone like Jon Lieber, Freddy Garcia, but I don't even think we could get them for Jones.
  3. "The Cubs hope to have filled one vacancy in the 2007 rotation by signing right-handed pitcher Wade Miller to a one-year contract. "-Cubs.com He better not already be slotted in the rotation. If he was one of the pitchers that Hendry wanted to be in the rotation things are already looking bad. He should be a sign and hope you can get something guy. Not someone who is going to be relied on.
  4. This is already in Baseball Discussions
  5. Winning bid may be much lower!!!! http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/blog/2006/11/price_coming_down_on_daisuke.html
  6. I've heard him likened to Kaz Ishii. That is not a good thing in my opinion.
  7. mlbtraderumors is reporting that the winning bid could be around $1 Million if this is the case everyone should be bidding for him.
  8. They can't let Hesters punt lead to self-destruction
  9. Bruce, any chance you could pass this Baldelli idea onto Hendry? I would be psyched if we could have Baldelli as our Cf next year. Would you guys want him to leadoff, bat 2, or lower in the order?
  10. I think there is both. Generally is something is a risk, there is upsidde if it pans out. He is still around 30 years old so he can turn it around. He has shown in the past that he can be a dominant pitcher, and maybe when his injury heals up he will revert to his old form.
  11. Baldelli would be a great addition. I love the idea of adding young players who are already tied up for the next few years. Where was the source that said Baldelli was available? I have only heard that Crawford was. Got it from Ken Rosenthals latest: "Devil Rays outfielder Elijah Dukes is tearing up the Arizona Fall League, and the Rays envision him possibly getting 400 at-bats next season as a fourth outfielder, first baseman and DH. B.J. Upton and Ty Wigginton figure to compete for the Rays' third-base job, but Upton could make his long-anticipated move to the outfield if the team trades left fielder Carl Crawford or center fielder Rocco Baldelli."
  12. Me and a friend of mine a cardinals fan talk about the offseason every year and I tell him some mediocre, junk player that Hendry will sign and piss me off with. In 2005 I predicted Jeromy Burnitz and the Cubs signed him. In 2006 I predicted Jaque Jones, so what does Hendry do sign Jaque Jones. This year I told him that Hendry would sign Miguel Batistsa. I was happy until today because I had not seen his name mentioned. If Hendry signs Batista or Lilly I will be disappointed. They are both nothing more than average middle of the road, older pitchers. Since you have to get a lower end of the rotation starter. Why not get someone like Kuroda, Padilla, Mulder, or Eaton? Players with upside, not players whose average careers are going past there prime.
  13. I would definitely love to see Baldelli in a Cubs uniform. Maybe since Piniella had him in Tampa he would recommend him to Hendry.
  14. Would you do Marshall and Novoa or another propect for Baldelli? He is a young good CF who has speed, great range, some pop, and hes rumored to be on the block for some pitching. Would you do it? and would the Rays do it?
  15. I was surprised to see Aurilia in there. I have not heard anyone mention his name at all. Last year hit 23 homers 70 RBI and a .349 OBP. I don't think he will be on Hendrys list, but that is an interesting pick.
  16. From Mark Gonzalez today: If the Angels are successful in landing either or both, they might deal Chone Figgins, a career .285 hitter who has stolen 114 bases the last two years. The switch-hitting infielder-outfielder played 96 of his 155 games in center field last season. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-061101sox,1,4181934.story?coll=cs-home-headlines I don't see this happening, but it would be intriguing. He could be on the block due to his off year this year.
  17. The author at mlbtraderumors has a new link up about Aramis. He cautions that he has not been able to find a 2nd source on this and to take it with a grain of salt but it says: "I am told that Aramis Ramirez's agent Paul Kinzer is asking for six years at $15MM per or seven years at $14MM annually. Jim Hendry's counteroffer: five years, $70MM guaranteed (11/12/15/16/16), sixth year vests at $14MM with a team option and seventh year a player option at $14MM. Full no-trade 2007-09, partial no-trade 2010-13." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/10/unfounded_rumor.html This looks like something that could be worked out. I'm surprised Hendry would give this many years though.
  18. No way the Pirates trade Mike Gonzalez for Jacque Jones. I dont see them trading Gonzalez at all anyways. Gonzalez is said to be on the block if they can get a OF with some pop.
  19. What about Eyre for Sheff? Then trade J. Jones to Pittsburgh for Mike Gonzalez. Get a lefty back in the pen right away.
  20. I think I laughed more times reading this thread so far than I have in the past week. Jones for Bonderman? Someone must have been drinking all day. Why would the Tigers who already have to many OF's (Mags, Granderson, Thames, Monroe) want an average OF in Jones for a 23 year old starter who has already showed that he is legit and a stud. This might be the worst trade proposal I have heard in a long time.
  21. There is a link on mlbtraderumors that shows a Yahoo article stating that Kuroda may stay, however the article is in Japanese and well I don't read Japanese, but apparently thats what it says heres a link if you want to look. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/10/hiroki_kuroda_t.html
  22. Article also says that Hendry wants Pierre back. (Throwing up noise in the backround)
  23. What's the link, out of curiosity? mlb4u.com Sorry bout that
  24. I know these things are never right and in this case I hope not, but mlb4.com posted their offseason predictions. I find these things interesting to read even if they are usually wrong. I almost got sick reading this though. They pick us to sign: Matthews Jr., Jeff Weaver, Trot Nixon, Jose Vizcaino, and in case your not throwing up yet Jose Lima to a minor league contract. Hope they were drunk when they did this.
