  1. Wow how remarkable this post was to what I was going to post. At this point I wish they would just give the job to Scott Moore instead of having to deal with Shea Hillebrand or some other never was who has a bigger name then his ability would suggest. What really bothers me is they will probably compensate for not resigning ARam by way over paying for Pierre. I would not be against holding the line on a top flight Free Agent. Just dont over frickin pay for mediocre ones either. If this happens I will quit with this team.
  2. Whos your 3B next year? Bell, Huff, Feliz, Boone, Hillenbrand  Hopefully Jim was smart and put a bid in for Iwamura O wait since that would be smart I guarantee he didn't do it
  3. Hendry is a dope just give him the money. If your gonna say raise the payroll then pay the damn guy.
  4. Wheres my bottle of Jack? http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6161414 This is gonna be a long offseason
  5. If they don't want to pay Aramis more than 13 a year, I don't think they would want to pay Drew that much.
  6. Thanks Bruce!!!
  7. If true, there's a reason for that. Batista is terrible. He's 36 and he hasn't been any good for 3 years. if by not good you mean better than the major league average pitcher, then yes, he hasn't been any good for 3 years You guys need to get over ERA+. He had a WHIP over 1.5 the two years he was a starter, a K/BB near 1 both years he was a starter, an OBP against over .350 both those years, and an OPS against around .780. He's 36 years old and it's likely going to get worse, he's a terrible option for the rotation. Get over ERA? That is the stat that defines pitchers. ERA is a very good jusdge of how good a guy is. If they give up runs, which help the other team, ERA will show just how many runs a guy gave up. Runs are the name of the game and ERA shows just how good or bad someone is at not giving them up. They're talking about ERA+, not just ERA. It's defined at hardball times as - ERA measured against the league average, and adjusted for ballpark factors. An ERA+ over 100 is better than average, less than 100 is below average. I think TT's saying league average with that one stat doesn't offset below average at others. I didn't see that they were talking ERA+

  9. With Boras I wouldn't be surprised to see him start out negotiations at 5/75 He won't get that much though
  10. He wrote a very funny bit on Pierre: "One of the most overrated players of the 2000s, Pierre has precisely one above-average baseball ability: He can run. He has no power, has poor fielding instincts, has a below-average arm, and is not patient at the plate. While he has a .303 career batting average, his actual hitting ability is average at best. He has an erratic swing path, one that often puts him under balls he should be centering and trying to hit on the ground or as line drives. In center, he makes up for those poor instincts with his raw speed, but is no more than an average fielder; when his speed begins to decline, his bat won't support a move to left field. He's a No. 8 or 9 hitter who has been miscast as a leadoff hitter because he can fly, but he'll likely be paid to lead off by a club that values speed over the ability to get on base." Sounds like I've heard those words before
  11. I'm not real interested. He wasn't to good when he left Texas and went to Milwaukee.
  12. We could have a backup like Roberts or Pie if we were to get him. Don't forget about Pagan either he is alright.
  13. This is good news because it makes the Astros a worse team. If they play him everyday over Burke they are nuts.
  14. There have been some signs that OBP is being valued, and will be addressed. still, I'd like to hear some hint from a Cubs' reporter (a legitimate one, not Levine or Sullivan), MLB insider or the team itself, that there is any interest in Drew. Until then, I assume there is none. Maybe Bruce will have some news :D
  15. I bet they DH him and move Monroe or Thames to 1st
  16. I do recall Hendry having interest in Drew last time he was a free agent. When Boras had him, Beltran, and Maggs out there.
  17. Wow I wanted Sheff for maybe a reliever or a couple mid-level prospects, but with that price(one of your best future arms, and some minor leaguers) there is no way the Cubs should have wanted him.
  18. This just popped up in my head. What about Pie and Novoa or Dempster for Hudson and Marcus Giles? This would clear up some money for the Braves and fill a couple of holes for us. They want to move both of them and they need a reliever and someone for when Andruw Jones leaves next year.
  19. Possbily tonight. It is night there right now so maybe by morning over there some of the Japanese papers will have found out something.
  20. Just a reminder, bidding for Iwamura ends today at 4pm CST. I think he would be a cheap 2B alternative or option even if A-ram leaves. With the winning bid expected to be under $5 mill. why not bid on him. He has been compared to Matsui, and that line drive double type hitting would be perfect fit at the bottom of the order.
  21. That's insane if true. Better get ready to sign Zito. By the way Gammons said an interesting stat on Zito last night. He hasn't missed a start since his junior year of high school, and he has never had a losing record. Maybe we should bring him in.
  22. You guys all make good points, and I know the numbers are there. However, with all of these injuries that we have seen over the last few years I'm kinda weary of bringin in guys who are always injured.
  23. What is with all of this love for Drew? Here is a guy who has never had 600 AB's in a season, and has only had one healthy season with the Braves and even then he only had 518 AB's. Have you guys seen what all these injuries have done to out team the past few years? Now you want to bring in the most-oft injured guy in baseball for over $11 mill a year? For that price I say stay away Jim.
  24. That's crazy! I understand Cashman is trying to get the best possible deal for Sheffield, but to turn down both The Phillies deal that included Gavin Floyd and a Padres deal that included Scott Linebrink, is beyond insane. Everybody knows that Yankees are trying to trade Sheffield, and everybody knows Sheffield no longer wants to be a Yanks. So to turn down either deal, is beyond idiotic, and I hope they can't trade Sheffield, cause you know Sheffield will tear ANY chemistry that team might have to pieces. What is so crazy about turning down a Gavin Floyd deal? Have you seen his numbers the last two years? He is not the prospect he once was. I know the Yankees turned down this deal with Linebrink, but today Peter Gammons was on Mike and Mike and said that he believes Sheff will end up with the Cubs. The deal would be centered around Wuertz.
