  1. I would like an explanation on how so many DBs can come straight to the QB with no one in sight.
  2. let me guess, he talked about how he spent time with him a few years ago and how he is just such a great kid? He actually did use the phrase "great kid."
  3. To be fair, we played a lot of press coverage today and we still had our usual A gap blitzes that did nothing. I don't think that qualifies as bend don't break. For example, Carroll runs the same defensive scheme as Lovie and we couldn't get convert a 3rd down to save our lives. It's an execution problem.
  4. Timmy boy just scored his first NFL touchdown.
  5. Yes, that is probably my biggest gripe about the bend don't break philosophy. You let teams settle into a drive and you lose TOP and field position. There were several times where it would've been nice to squeeze Seattle and get some field position.
  6. What am I supposed to concede? That you aren't a complete idiot and they aren't completely incompetent? Okay, you aren't a complete idiot and the Bears defense occasionally makes a play. But they had a really bad day against a disturbingly mediocre offense that sucks on the road and has for multiple years and they have been a bad defense for 4 years now. What else do you want me to concede? Dammit you bastard you are sucking me back in. They gave up 353 yards on 71 plays.....4.9 yards per play. Seattles defense gave up 307 yards on 59 plays....5.20 yards per play. If the Bears gave up 4.9 yards per play thoughout the season, do you know where that would rank in the league? Tied for 9th in the NFL with Philly and Miami. That's a bad day? The defense is fine when they don't have to be on the field for 71 plays in a game. per play? You are making me rethink my first concession. They never stopped seattle which is why they allowed so many plays to happen. Yeah 4.9 yards per play. The best defenses in the league give up something like 4.3 yards per play. The worst this year around 6.5 yards per play. The Giants are at the top at 4.1 per play. I wonder why?
  7. Being on the field for a lot of defensive plays is a consequence of not being able to stop 3rd downs and having your offense not sustain drives. In today's case it was both...Seattle was 7/12 on 3rd downs at one point, IIRC, until they started playing keep away.
  8. Oh and lol at the Packers being a perennial powerhouse. A team that has two playoff wins in 13 years is a powerhouse? Compared to the Lions, yeah.
  9. I also wish I had some way to screenshot all the dumb [expletive] formations Martz was using. Half the time Forte or Taylor are in the game it's blindingly obvious it's going to be a pass because of where they're lined up.
  10. I wish we'd run some basic wildcat stuff. We're not getting anything blocking 10 vs. 11. Even 2nd and 8 is a lot better than 2nd and 10 or 11. Martz literally wants to score from any position on the field instead of setting up 3rd and reasonable.
  11. We all know the Bear defense is a bend but not break defense. Why would anyone get all up in arms when they give up what we all knew they would give up - lots of yards? This was the worst defensive game they had played, but good defenses are due a stinker every now and then. All I care about is how many points they give up and the Bears have been just fine at doing that this year. My concern is centered around the lack of pressure on the QB. It makes the rest of the team bad when you can't do this. It forces Marinelli to blitz and the Bears are terrible blitzers. Your perennial Pro Bowl LB was out too. They're not giving up THAT many yards though.
  12. They did well against GB and Detroit, dominated Carolina, and while they gave up yardage to Dallas, they afforded themselves pretty well with turnovers and stuff. Today they were average but good enough to win. Your characterization is just way, way off. Edit: Forgot the New York game...if there were ever an example of a defense holding up well to start, and then getting pushed around later on because the offense sucked the life out of them, it was that game.
  13. Hey jersey, have you looked at the Bears defensive rankings yet. They sort of torpedo your characterization of them as the reincarnation of the 2008 Lions. I think you'd be surprised at how well they stack up.
  14. I like how Billick created some hypothetical character who determined an onside might not be necessary to argue with.
  15. Is Billick really explaining why an onside is necessary?
  16. HAHAHAH that block was [expletive] sweet
  17. What the hell is uniformly bad have to do with anything? You dont' win games by having a few defensive stands. The defense has been bad. They'd made a handful of plays, but they've been terrible overall. The offense has been abysmal, but the defense was bad before the offense had a time to hurt them. Because having a good stretch of defensive play is better than having no good stretch of defensive play. This isn't rocket surgery. The defense has been pretty good this year, overall, btw. Just look at the stats. High in yardage allowed, high in yards per play allowed, at the top in takeaways, etc. Not great at stopping 3rd downs of course. That's a really dumb post. A couple good stretches doesn't mean you didn't have a bad day. Neither does a couple bad ones. Your posts on the Bears defense this year have been uniformly stupid, by the way. If you step back from the immediacy of the individual games, they've been one of the better units in the league.
  18. Why are we huddling up still?
  19. He was not that short. [expletive] line judge was duped by the Seattle DB placing the ball.
  20. Yes Billick, it does matter whether you stop the guy 10 yards short or an inch short as evidenced by us, once again, have ass field position.
  21. The Packers are losing, btw.
