  1. maybe some people want to work in coal mines full of carbon monoxide too! freakin government infringing upon our rights. Well clearly, people who work in coal mines have the same career options as nfl athletes. They make about the same salary too! there's absolutely no reason to force people to make this choice. paying people relatively large salaries doesn't change the equation at all. knowingly making people make this choice is basically evil. HEY POOR PEOPLE, WANNA GET RICH? get concussions and ruin your brain for my amusement. You're saying this as if the only reason concussions are in the game is because the rules aren't tight enough or aren't enforced properly. All the rules and enforcement in the world aren't going to change the fact that you're probably going to see more concussions in American football than any other sport outside of combat sports (maybe even those too). I suppose we could abolish the sport completely or go to two hand touch/flag, that'd be a way.
  2. Saw this on RealGM and laughed my ass off. http://l.yimg.com/k/im_siggErXGnzk_Oe_31gmhgQ8Dvw---y660-x648-q75-n0/omg/us/img/24/47/4841_12858470081.jpg
  3. I seriously cannot fathom what bizarro world you live in where you cannot imagine an instance where diving to make a tackle in football may be necessary. It's pretty comical actually.
  4. Well you should dive if it's the only way to make a play. You see a receiver burning up the sidelines and a safety whose only option to push him out of bounds or tackle him is to dive and I'll show you a safety whose ass is sitting on the bench on the next drive. lol, what sport are you watching where dives are unnecessary
  5. Also, football is almost always played with forward body lean. That alone is going to put your helmet ahead of your body on a lot of plays. A lot of helmet to helmet or helmet to body contact is from using proper form and is mostly incidental.
  6. Dives, by definition, are head first. If you can show me how one would dive at a ball carrier without his head being in front of his body I'll reconsider. Maybe we can start drop kicking ball carriers.
  7. I don't ignore it. I just don't think there is a ton of black and white. The Dunta Robinson hit, for example, was firmly in the gray area if you ask me. Not ejection worthy even based on the new enforcement guidelines. It is completely unrealistic to say that you can't EVER lead with your helmet unless you want to say that you can never dive at a ball carrier to make a tackle.
  8. hahaha i read about this today. I guess they wanted the Thunder, well, wanted KD, and he said he'd only do it if thabo and nenad could be on the cover, since they're the 2 starters that never get any pub. frankly, if i was SI, i would have been like uhhh, thanks but no thanks. It's really hard to not like Durant. You'll find a way.
  9. I wonder what Bartman was thinking from whatever cave he was living in during that frame.
  10. Let us remember that there was a multi month argument between like Kyle and dex about how crappy the team was or wasn't. Plus all hope was lost after Game 3 of the SCF so let's not pretend a good stretch of dominating play is going to prevent you nutters from flying off the handle.
  11. Too late now! There was only one deadline deal and it involved the Chiefs and some other team I'm too lazy to look up.
  12. Colletti hired Little, Torre, and now Mattingly.
  13. Wow, just saw those James Harrison kill shots from the Pitt/Cle game. He needs to sit out a few games for that, IMO. Just brutal stuff, even if it's not intentional.
  14. If any Yankee fan told me they were getting as much pleasure out yet another World Series title as I got from the Bulls in the 90s I'd fight them.
  15. You don't walk off the island.
  16. How the hell did Jacksonville get a Monday Night game?
  17. He has had really good talent as Pitt. Not top of the Big East type talent.
  18. Collison, Afflalo, Westbrook, Mbah Moute, et. al. were good, not great recruits. Farmar and Love were the true super prospects. I mean they're still getting high 4s and the occasional 5s. He's just not getting the sleepers who are turning into first round picks.
  19. Is Mizzou's SOS really rated the same as Alabama's? The computers have their place (esp. at the end of the season) but if my life depended on going through a slate of games undefeated...I'd definitely take Mizzou's schedule over Alabama's.
  20. Alabama would smash Missouri.
  21. Early in the game we'll come out with some exotic shift and formation change and then never do it the rest of the game. It really does seem like the play calls are pretty static once Cutler breaks the huddle. How often do you ever see him walk up to a lineman or a skill player to say something presnap? He's rarely pointing at LBs or DBs to alert the other guys on offense about certain things. These days a QB needs freedom at the LOS.
  22. I'm also really high on Jamie Dixon. He doesn't get tremendous talent at Pitt but he focuses like hell on defense and they seem to always over perform a lot of the time, especially last year. A few years ago I would've put Howland up there too but I'm not sure what the hell is going on at UCLA.
  23. I'd say those guys know what they're doing strategically, for the most part. Rick Barnes has proved all the talent in the world can't get you anywhere. Plus I think there are a lot of guys at 2nd tier programs who get decent talent and coach it up into conference and even Final 4 type teams...happens every year. Izzo is definitely in the top 4.
  24. Classy. I wouldn't count on Purdue going back to mediocrity anytime soon. Oh, has Painter been recruiting another super class that nobody knows about? Because otherwise, yeah they are in for a bit of a slide. If by 'super class' you mean four star recruit after four star recruit, then yes. Purdue will have the same number of four star recruits on the roster next year as they did last year. Maybe it's more about coaching ability? Could be? In college basketball it's all about talent, not coaching ability. Also accrording to Rivals since your big 3 showed up in '07 Painter has had 10 3 star recruits and 5 4 stars. Not exactly 4 star after 4 star. All about talent? I don't agree with that. Coaches are important in any sport but I'd put a college basketball coaches importance 2nd behind a football coach.
  25. I think the expression that if you're stuck in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging is apt here. The most we can do for the offensive line without pulling a miraculous trade out of our butt is for Martz to stop calling so many damn deep drops. We have two good pass catching backs that we're not using as safety valves. Almost every pass play takes a long time to develop with no dump offs available to Jay. I know Forte is a good receiver but it seems like he's downfield almost as often as Knox when he's not getting a hand off. Plus after the first few games the screen game has been non existant. And because we can't/won't run there's no play action or bootleg element either. Why don't we get Cutler out on the perimeter to throw? Or at least get him in the shotgun so has a better look at those blindside rushing DBs. Martz is so stubborn it's unbelievable. Also something needs to be done to get in 3rd and manageable instead of 3rd and 10+. I'd use wildcat on 1st and 2nd down more often. We probably won't get any big hitters out of it but we can at least fall forward for a yard or two. It makes a big difference. Plus it'd be another way for our dumb receivers to get their hands on the ball without running some complicated Martz route. How many times can a DB blitz unblocked before you call a quick hitter into his vacated area? These are basic adjustments we're talking about. Martz just wants to keep attacking at all times. I respect it to a degree but it's just dumb sometimes.
