  1. I'll be very surprised if Avril isn't franchised today. Stevie wasn't my favorite option at WR, but I had actually thought he'd be the guy we wound up with. I think V-Jax is going to get a TON thrown at him and winds up a Redskin.
  2. Whatever the punishment is for the Saints, I bet Gregg Williams' punishment is worse. I could see him getting banned permanently from the NFL. I'll guess the Saints lose next year's 1st and either a 1st or a 2nd the following season as well.
  3. I don't think the Bobcats pick has value right now, it's too far off and even MJ can possibly produce a .500 team in the East at some point. I'd give that pick and more to get Ray Allen and not think twice. Rip can be a scorer off the bench for us, if he's healthy. Ray is a guy that fits us perfectly. I'd send this years 1st, the Bobcat pick, Korver, and whatever luggage we have to in order for salaries to match up. And even then, I think it's possible other teams would outbid us. Ray will generate serious interest from contenders.
  4. To me, Boston can beat ANY team in a 7 game series, but they can't hold up for 4 straight playoff series. They either need to add a piece to at least try or they need to sell off completely. Allen is certainly movaable for picks and expirings. Garnett and Pierce may be harder to move and not take a relatively bad deal back as part of it, but it's possible. Do it this way, you wind up with a high pick of your own, a decent pick involved in a Rondo trade, more picks for the big 3, and tons of cap room moving forward. I think they could rebuild very quickly myself, especially in the East. Playoff team next season with tons of upside moving forward.
  5. How about Portland for Rondo? Middle of the 1st round pick in a solid draft, Batum, and Felton. I admit to being a big fan of Batum though.
  6. So how much does the offer have to be in order for Steelers to not be able to match it? Just curious... Here's the thing... Prince Amukamara was the 19th pick last year. His contract is for 4 years, 8.18 mil. Bears will have to sign Mike Wallace to a much bigger contract than that. Granted, Wallace is a great and young WR, but is it worth getting him and losing that pick? It'll depend on the contract Wallace would get. My guess is some team winds up giving Wallace 15 mill or so, in the form of a roster bonus or something like that, that Pittsburgh just can't match. They'd have to cut too many guys. I'm saying the Bengals because it's a division rival, they have 2 1st rounders and are 40 mill under the cap, so they can afford to take a huge cap hit in year 1 of a deal.
  7. All Wallace has to do is accept a very front loaded offer and the Steelers are screwed, because they won't be able to match. Yeah, they'll get that teams 1st, but my guess is Wallace is a Bengal in a couple of weeks. And the Steelers will be looking hard at Floyd or Wright at 21, trying to leapfrog the Bears, in order to get one of them.
  8. Cubs hitters to make BA top 100 are Javier Baez at 14, Mike Zunino at 27, Jorge Soler at 56, Ronald Torreyes at 78, Dan Vogelbach at 84, and Jeimer Candelario at 98. System finishes season as the 4th rated system in baseball.
  9. Only Cub pitcher to make BA top 100 is McNutt, who comes in at 71. Cubs address this issue by drafting Taylore Cherry, Hunter Virant, and Jake Barrett with their 2 supplemental picks and their 2nd rounder.
  10. Soriano strikes out his first 400 plate appearances and doesn't miss a single inning. He continues smiling throughout it all. Selig institutes a new "slumpbuster" rule mid season that allows Sveum to bat Soriano leadoff every inning. Still without contact or rest, we're playing the last game of the season with a win putting us in the playoffs. Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, no outs, Sori up to bat after we've miraculously batted around. Down a run. Contact! As Soriano hits into a game and season ending triple play, because he posed after hitting a grounder to 3rd. And then he smiled again, happy to be out of his slump.
  11. The Good Zach Cates posts excellent peripherals again and finishes the season strong in Tennessee. Gerardo Concepcion begins the season in Boise, but finishes with a couple of solid starts in Daytona. Ben Wells has a very solid, workman-like Peoria campaign and starts to establish himself as a solid potential mid rotation guy. McNutt bounces back and has a very solid 2/3 season for Tennessee, before moving on to Iowa for a couple of outings and Wrigley for 3 or 4 starts at the end of the season. puts himself firmly back into BA's top 75. Kyler Burke shows enough that's he makes Peoria's rotation and makes it to Daytona mid-season and impresses there as well. The Bad Dillom Maples proves to be a true "work in progress" who's going to need LOTS of time. Hayden Simpson has a below average season in Peoria. Nick Struck gets knocked around at Iowa and is sent back to Tennessee midseason. Tony Zych has control issues and spends all season in Peoria, when some thought he'd be in Tennessee by year's end. Dae Eun Rhee doesn't hold up as a starter and is moved to the pen.
  12. I liked what TT did so much for the major league team, I figured we should do it for the minors as well. The Good Junior Lake takes a nice step forward and is considered a legit contender to start at 3B. Ronald Torreyes plays half the season at Daytona and half at Tennessee. He continues to hit at both spots, posting a combined .330 Batting Average. Jeimer Candelario starts his stateside career at Peoria and posts a .380 OBP with flashes of plus power. Dan Vogelbach leads the MWL in homers and has a solid OBP as well. Javier Baez establishes himself as a top 20 prospect in baseball, making it to Daytona in August. Marck Malave plays the year in Arizona and winds up as a top 5 prospect by BA in the league. The Bad Josh Vitters has another so-so season and is basically forgotten about as a potential everyday player for us. Jae Hoon Ha struggles offensively and posts a sub. 300 OBP with no progression at all. Reggie Golden begins to look like Michael Burgess V2.0. Carlos Penalver picks up the all-glove, no-hit stigma.
  13. I've seen Allen play quite a bit. I really like him. No, he doesn't have elite speed, but he'd be a helluva red zone target for us. He goes up and gets it. Great hands, decent blocker. He's a matchup problem for either LB's or CB's because of his jumping ability and his strength. I think he's a future Pro Bowler and if he slides to us in the 2nd, while I agree TE isn't all that pressing of a need, since we could just go sign Carlson or someone, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on Allen.
  14. Walter's latest mock has us taking Wright in the 1st, Dwayne Allen in the 2nd, Brandon Washington and Cam Jonhnson in the 3rd and Shaun Prater in the 4th. I know some guys will bitch about Wright and Allen because of their slow 40's, but I would love this exact draft for us. If we could replace Wright with Floyd, it'd be perfect, in my opinion.
  15. I figure Tolbert is too expensive for us as a backup RB. He's pretty damn good and is a perfect 2 back system guy. Obviously, we CAN afford him, but we should probably just resign Bell, cut Barber, and draft a guy late.
  16. Soto is bad, dealt for low return in June. Castillo is iffy, Clevenger looks the best of a bad group. Question mark heading into 2013. LaHair's decent, .800ish OPS, Rizzo is solid after August callup, hitting 12 homers. Barney and Cardenas are less than inspiring. Castro hits 18 homers, better defensively, but batting average drops to .280. Stewart has better season than Aramis, puts up 3 WAR. Soriano is solid, dealt at deadline, where we eat 32 of 42 mill. Byrd is dealt to Braves for JT Graham before season begins. Campana/Sappelt platoon works decently, til Brett comes up. Immediate fan favorite, looks like future All Star. DeJesus puts up Fukudome type numbers. Team winds up with 83 wins.
  17. Garza's solid all year, leads us in fWAR, around 4.5. Shark is 2nd, putting up a 3.5. Volstad is a 3 win guy. Wood and Maholm battle injuries all season. Dempster sucks. Marmol is solid again, but Woody can't stay healthy. Wells struggles out of the pen. Beliveau and Dolis both look like longterm assets. Russell is decent. No one else shows anything of note.
  18. To me. The most telling statement was when Phillips said we need to catch up to Green Bay talent-wise. We've got an elite QB and he has no one to throw to. Rodgers has weapons galore to chose from each play. Someone's always open. Adding a pair of solid WR's seems like it was almost exactly what he meant, when making that statement.
  19. Jairo Beras just signed for 4.5 mill with the Rangers. His age is in question and this looks like it could be a very interesting case to watch develop. Supposedly turned 17 in December, other teams are furious because they all think he's a 7/2 guy.
  20. Earl Bennett is the only WR we have that's better than a 4 currently, we NEED to spend a high pick AND get a very solid FA signing as well.
  21. His knees are shot. I just can't see him being anywhere near himself or maybe even anyone that resembles an NBA SG. Would love to see it, if he could though.
  22. Will we start this before FA gets going or will we wait til we see some activity so we can see what holes haven't been addressed?
  23. No. Because if we use our 1st on a position other than WR, it could be because we're planning on using 2 of our 3 top 3 round picks on WR instead, because of the depth. I'd be fine with moving up, if it didn't involve using those picks, but we wouldn't be moving very far, so I'd rather just stay put.
  24. Brett myers will get about 4 appeances this season evidently.
  25. I'm working with what we've got man......It's not like we're trading Castro and it's not likely they've got an interest in Garza. We unfortunately don't fit that criteria. If there's a team with a solid SS or possibly an OFer that's not going to hurt their current team, by dealing them away, that's the trade partner the Braves need. Minor's not worth us giving up Brett for and obviously, Castro's not an option here. In the end, maybe we're not an ideal trade partner for them, but Minor isn't even all that likely to get a full season's worth of starts for them and their system needs an influx of hitting, so I hope we can entice them somehow. Even if it's not likely.
