  1. I guess the question is whether B2B would rather suck for a year, have plenty of money fall off the books, amp the farm system up tremendously and have the opportunity to make whatever moves they want to over the next few seasons. Or max out the payroll, put an averagish team out there that's getting older, but has a CHANCE to make the playoffs, albeit as a team that sneaks in, doesn't have room to make deals, and is probably never going to have a chance to dominate. And until he says EXACTLY how he'd make the 2012 Cubs into a perennial contender immediately, I'll go ahead and figure he's definitely taking the 2nd scenario. We just didn't miss out on much this past offseason, once things have shaken out.
  2. And speaking of this exact scenario, ABTY from PSD just said he's heard Astros are better than 50/50 at this point on taking Correa at 1, because his agent has already let it be known he'll accept way less than slot if picked there.
  3. DeRosa was sad he was dealt. He even said he'd love to come back and it was his favorite place to play.
  4. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. Maybe even more drastic in some cases. Fried is a good example, because if he's who we want, he may last until 9 or 10 if we don't take him. Leaving quite a bit of wiggle room for slotting. You just need to be sure you've got a solid group of guys to choose from that you feel will be there later on that you feel really good about taking. The more likely scenario though, is you take who you want early, then try and make up for it with some senior signs in rounds 5-10. Sure, you're missing out on some decent players at those spots with upside, but hopefully you've gotten bigger upside guys with your early picks anyway.
  5. Callis expects the 1st round and supplemental round to kind of go to form, with BPA, for the most part. He then thinks HS kids get picked in the 2nd and 3rd, with lots of College guys from the 4th through the 10th rounds, including a bunch of easier to sign seniors. Here's a group of 10 College Seniors I think probably fall in that area and may provide value to us as cheap signs and also have talent as well. James Ramsey OF, Pete O'Brien C, Matthew Reckling SP, Jeremy Rathjen OF, Preston Tucker OF, Taylor Dugas OF, Matthew Price RP, Sam Stafford SP, Jason Coats OF, and Austin Nola SS. The new CBA dictates you have to offer 40% of slot to anyone you pick inside the first 10 rounds, so these guys hold a little value because they're solid, can probably become major leaguers and should be cheap, if we want to spend money on high upside guys elsewhere.
  6. No. Romine basically profiles as a backup at this point. Want no part of Joba or Betances for that matter Maybe Samchez? Although he's probably not sticking at C himself. Looking at their system, I guess I'll pass. Don't see much I like, necause Williams ism't getting dealt And I don't like their pitching at all.
  7. Heyman threw out Hughes and Banuelos for Garza a few minutes ago, off the top of his head. I'm not for this, but with another top 10ish type prospect from their system, I might would consider it.
  8. Craig, Buxton is definitely a top 3 talent. I don't think there's a chance he makes it to 6. Really starting to think the same on Correa. Gausman's in the same boat. Very slimmest of slim chance Appel makes it, in my opinion. Five percent maybe. As for Zimmer, his velo has been a bit up and down, he's currently nursing a minor leg injury and he's lost a little luster. Personally, I'd still be pretty happy if that's the way we go. In fact, I kind of doubt we'll have much opposition on this board at all as long as one of eight or nine guys is chosen. As for Zunino, the beef with him is upside. Plus, he's struggled a bit in conference play this year. Again, if he's our pick, I'm fine with it. The 9 guys I'm OK with(order changes daily) are Appel, Gausman, Zimmer, Zunino, Buxton, Correa, Almora, Giolito, and Fried.
  9. Well, Matt Moore was a legit 8th rounder that signed for around slot. The guys you mentioned obviously didn't sign. I want to change that. Like any fan, I want us to be the team that finds THAT guy this year.
  10. Rodon was considered a top 200ish guy last year. He wanted around 800,000 to sign and got drafted late because of the bonus demands. It certainly gives hope to finding that type of breakout guy that's not considered a true first round talent.
  11. I respect what Sori's going through, playing hurt, not complaining, and certainly playing better. Unfortunately, it's the playing hurt part, that's going to keep him from being dealt this season.
  12. It's from May 18th. UK, is that your own mock, by any chance? davell, I think that was the perfectgame mock draft. Thanks Toonster.
  13. Correa is the big helium guy this year. At this point, I think there's extremely little chance of him making it to us.
  14. Nah, I wasn't comparing Correa with those guys, just trying to show a potential reason he's been a huge mover in this class.
  15. Yeah but guys like Manny Machado and other elite HS prospects didn't have an "expect him to make a move" thing going for them. That's literally my own knock on Correa during this draft process. Don't construe this as a knock on Almora, because we've already talked age, on both these guys. But I think in Correa and maybe in Almora's case too, their being so young, has led to more development this season than most others.
  16. I disagree completely about Correa. Just about everything I read heading into this season said expect him to make a move towards the top. And now he has. The power is coming already and he's very athletic for his size, with solid makeup. If you dream on him and Almora, Correa has the higher ceiling easily and while Almora may have the higher floor, I doubt it's by much. In both cases, I think we're seeing two guys step up, not just moving up because no one else is there. It's not going to surprise me at all if either or both wind up better than Buxton. Nor will it surprise me if Correa even gets drafted ahead of Buxton.
  17. The stats say what they say. He's regained a respectable amount of power and cut his K% down from nearly 30% to 19%. That's real improvement. Oh, I know you're reasonable. Just wish everyone in the thread was.
  18. If Giolito is healthy and can be signed for a little under 5 mill, he's my pick. If not, I think I'm taking Almora over Zimmer for sure and probably over Fried.
  19. At this point, my feeling is our choice winds up being between Zimmer, Almora, Giolito, and Fried.
  20. If Kyle can come around on Stewart, anyone can. This has been this board's most underrated story of the season.
  21. Connor Glassey says Mariners had 6 scouts, including 4 decision makers at Correas's last tournament.
  22. Zunino may not be a 3/4 hitter, but I do think he's an. 800 OPS type and coming from C, I'm perfectly fine, if we take him. Then load up with pitching bigtime. Maybe we get lucky and find a Taijuan Walker type guy or something. Maybe Travieso, Eflin, Sims, or even Smoral? Who I keep hearing has a strong commitment to UNC. With his injury, I could see him dropping to us. We'd just have to allot for a nice overslot.
  23. Check the Fecal standings and smile because the Twins won too.
  24. It's from May 18th. UK, is that your own mock, by any chance?
  25. I'd be quite happy with that, because Sims is a phenomenal get at 43. I don't like taking relievers early, but I like Sims enough to not care about Magnifico, who does throw as hard or harder than anyone in the draft. I'm fine with Zunino, not sure I'd take him over Almora or not. If we pass on Giolito, I'm figuring we had reason to do so.
