  1. That sounds about right. Maybe Cruz gets another look once Burke gets moved up. If not him, I think Pugliese has earned a look at this point.
  2. Zunino is still a potential all star. It's not like he has no upside. The only potential top 10 pick that's NOT got lots of upside is Marrero, who I don't want at all, but is probably going to be a 3 or 4 WAR guy in his prime. But at 6? Whether it's one of Appel, Gausman, Zimmer, Zunino, Giolito, Fried, Buxton, Correa, or Almora, we're going to get enough upside out of that spot.
  3. In all likelihood, the extra year won't ever matter. If he's really good, we'll lock him up longterm before that last arb year ever kicks in. I guess a small case could be made for years 3 and 4 and whether it's a renewal/arb 1 situation or it's an arb1/arb 2 situation that costs us a tad more. To me though, as a major market team, it shouldn't conceivably matter.
  4. Damn, so Golden tore his ACL and is missing the rest of the season.
  5. Cubs have 5 picks in the top 101. About the only thing they can do here, to address the system is to mix it up. If they go high upside at 6, then I bet they go safe with 2-3 of their next 4 picks. If they go safe at 6, then I'd expect a bunch of high upside types to follow. As much as I want a ton of high reward guys, I'm sure they'll take some of each early.
  6. Pugliese just mentioned Peralta left EXST today, so I guess he's heading to Peoria.
  7. My guess is we go Campana/Castro/DeJesus for a short time.
  8. What if you bring him and he mashes? You're not sending him back down then. Whenever he comes up, whether it's in a week or two or two months from now, it should be for good. Screw this yo-yo'ing crap.
  9. Francescon to Daytona, per Goldstein.
  10. While it's dreaming right now, we need to get Texas and not worry about their mega TV deal. But Swofford is not going to ever go for that.
  11. There's no way the ACC becomes one of the 16 team super conferences if they lose FSU and CU. the PAC, B1G, and SEC have 3/4 locked up. That would leave it between the Big 12 and a very depleted ACC that is widely considered a bad football conference, even with the teams they'll have lost. Can't deny that. As much as I don't like the NCAA, I hope it sticks together. Mainly because I'm a basketball fan, first and foremost. It would take an act of congress to get us to leave Duke, but if it comes down to it, I'm honestly worried we'd drag our feet before leaving. Like I said, we should have taken WVU, when we had the chance. If it comes down to a horserace with us against the Big12,I'm not confident. We are a basketball conference and my hope is we become the new Big East, in a new version of the NCAA with everyone else still in it as well. I'll give up football for that with no problem myself.
  12. I think we'll disagree bigtime on this then. We traded high on DeRosa. This is the polar opposite. I think that package is way, way, way more than what a team parts with for Soriano.
  13. Badler has an article coming out soon putting players with teams showing interest. I know we operate under the radar, but it'd be nice to see us listed with Cabrera.
  14. I will say this though: As an ACC guy, we majorly effed up by not taking WVU. If this thing goes worst case scenario though, which is the elite 4 conferences leaving the NCAA, then my hope is my guys(UNC grad) go to the SEC. If we let it be known we were open to it, I don't see much chance they wouldn't take us.
  15. Carolina and Duke are tied at the hip. They're not leaving each other. Personally, I'm not so sure State wouldn't go to the SEC, if asked. This being said, I figure if it comes down to it, the ACC does become one of the 16 team BCS conferences somehow. They've got Pitt and Syracuse now. My guess is if they lose FSU and Clemson, they'll get UCONN and Rutgers. Miami would leave, but they'd probably go get another Big East school to take their place, probably finishing off the Big East as a football conference completely.
  16. They'll keep the ACC alive as a basketball oriented conference. It's what it's been all along anyway.
  17. I don't know what you mean by " decent prospects" but no team is taking Soriano on, even for free, for two more years after this one, and give up anything that resembles value whatsoever. A team looking for an OF would probably rather get an actual upgrade, instead of Soriano. Yeah, the numbers you posted look decent, but that's him in his hot streak at this point. We can deal him, pay all his salary, and my honest guess is we wouldn't even get one guy back that would slide into our own top 30 lists.
  18. I think Rizzo has to stay down through July to avoid Super Two.
  19. Wells had 5IP 4H 2R 2ER 0W 7K. Probably his best outing of the year and the bright spot for our minors today.
  20. Levine just tweeted Castro could move out of the 3 spot.
  21. Concepcion's outing: 5IP 6H 4R 4ER 3W 2K
  22. Surgery? What did I miss on Soriano?
  23. These new rules are also why it's absolutely imperative Soler can be signed before then. If not, he also counts against the budget. Plus, with these penalties factored in, our rumored offer would surely drop a ton. Not even sure if we'd spend solely on him or not, because of what we could have to forfeit next year with the penalties. My honest guess is we would NOT go over budget for him, but teams like the Yankees, Rangers, Rays maybe, Dodgers possibly and anyone else who senses they'll probably lose quite a bit of IFA money next year will go all in to sign him this season.
  24. This year, every team has 2.9 mill to spend on IFA. If you go over that amount by less than 5 percent, there's no penalty. If you go over by less than 10 percent, you pay a fine on the amount you went over on. I think it's 75 percent. If you go over by less than 15 percent, you pay the fine and you can not sign a player for over 500k the following season. If you go over by more than 15 percent, you get the fine and can not spend over 250k on a player the following season. Next year, the budgets will range from around 5 mill down to under 2 mill, based on record. So, while the worse record we have helps our draft position, it also helps here tremendously. So, if have a bottom 5 record this year, ee'll have a very high IFA budget next year. And if we go for it next offseason and try to contend, next year is the time to go all in on IFA, because our budget would be considerably lower for the following season anyway.
