  1. Goldstein said he's a guy that may struggle, but will eventually make the adjustments needed. That's kind of stuck with me on Brett. Sure, he'll K a ton, his BA probably never looks great, but I really see him as a longtime starter for us.
  2. Thank God we have Ray Lewis behind the plate, intimidating the opposing hitters and keeping our defense fresh and psyched up.
  3. Seriously though, Starlin is on pace for 16 walks this year. That's just disturbing.
  4. THAT CUP THING MAKES THIS NO DIFFERENT THAN A PLAYOFF GAME!!!!!!
  5. This has to be the worst lineup we've thrown out all year. That said Demp has his best bud catching for him, like he probably wanted, so he deserves the offense that comes with it.
  6. Sveum said Hill will get most of the starts until the others get back. I'm sure Lalli gets sent down as soon as one of the others gets back, then Koyie gets DFA'd as soon as we get two of them ready to go.
  7. Higher upside: Brett or Szczur? I think I'd say Szczur, but Brett has a much higher floor.
  8. Maybe September but probably not. My impression is that Zunino doesn't really have the power to be a real impact bat downstream. Am I offbase there? Most see him as an above average starter, but not a star. 20ish homers seems realistic.
  9. Nah, he's not Posey or Wieters. I'd say sometime in 2014 seems realistic.
  10. Abty, not THE PSD insider, but the guy who has scouting contacts on some level and writes for pinetarpress.com passed on lots of nuggets just now. Astros very close on Appel, Twins want either Buxton or Correa. Seattle wants Buxton or Gausman. Baltimore wants Zimmer. KC is a lock with Gausman, if he's there. He's their top ranked guy. Cubs would then take Zunino, who's 4th on their big board. Behind Appel, Gausman, and Buxton. Giolito is the complete wildcard, as he evidently was first on our big board, pre injury. Most teams in front of us have already eliminated him and some think he has a prearranged deal with the Pads at 7.
  11. Here's a list of players we'll be inviting to camp......This guy here is dead. Who the [expletive] forgot to cross Hill off the list?
  12. Koyie Hill. Nothing else to say.
  13. Is Castillo going on the DL? If so, in all seriousness I wonder when the last time a team had all 3 pf it's 40 man roster catchers get hurt within a month? Seriously, to have to burn 2 40 man spots within a few days is unheard of.
  14. After seeing Kerry's moment yesterday, I'm sure he feels entitled to his now. My guess is he gets to have a passed ball for someone's ceremonial first pitch.
  15. I've kind of had it in my mind that he's going to be a super utility type guy. Fills in hopefully at SS, 3B, 2B, LF, and RF, getting 100+ starts over the course of the season. Not saying it doesn't happen... but how often does a utility/bench guy get 100+ starts? Probably not often at all. I'm thinking a guy who fills in like Figgins did for the Angels, in the early to mid 2000's. Off the top of my head, perfect case scenario for something like this would be platoon with Stewart at 3rd, give off days to guys at 2B, SS, LF, and RF, plus play everyday when any of those guys were hurt.
  16. I think you've got a much better chance with Lake.
  17. Vanegas is draft eligible but he's a righty. I'd say he's more a top 250 guy or lower. Thanks Raisin, not sure why I thought he was a lefty. I remember he was hyped coming out of HS and he wanted huge money to be swayed. Without looking him up, I guess he's not progressed a ton since then.
  18. Speaking of lefties, is AJ Vanegas draft eligible? Garrioch keeps putting him in his stuff, but I don't see him elsewhere. If so, he'd be a solid lefty to add to the mix in the top 100 or so picks, wouldn't he?
  19. If Hendry were still here though, my honest guess is we would have kept Aramis, not offered arb to Pena, and signed one of Pujols or Fielder, taking away our 2nd rounder.
  20. I wish we had an idea of how Torreyes has looked. His K rate is no different than last year. Hopefully that means he's just been insanely unlucky. At any rate, he's a plus makeup guy, so I suspect he's going to be fine. His Babip is around half of what he's used to. I honestly doubt he's overmatched.
  21. Verlander's average FB was 91.4 in innings 1-3. 97.9 in 7 thru the 9th.
  22. 3 of the 4 losses on this losing streak have been by 1 run. ugh Overall, exactly half of our losses this year have been by 2 runs or less (12 out of 24 losses) It sucks but the competitive games makes me think that with some moves they have a shot at being good next year. There's a lot of pieces we've discovered this season. Samardzija, LaHair and Stewart all look like they could be legitimate contributors going forward. I definitely think they can be a very good team very quickly, if they want to be. Most important thing said. Right there. We're finding pieces, some of which appear to be very important moving forward. If we do this, and get a very high draft position as well, which also means we'd have one of the highest IFA budgets next year as well.....Then, as a rebuilding season, it's going better than any of us imagined, looking at this roster on opening day. And yes, we have probably moved the process along quicker than anticipated, because of how well some of these guys have done.
