  1. It didn't. Raley was in Tennessee for over a year.
  2. I'm not going to give Wilken a pass here at all. To me, the record speaks on it's own. And that's what we have to go off of. But, I do wonder if JH helped out in all of this a little too much. We typically would only be good for one solid overslot guy and they always would hang their hat on how many "major leaguers" are getting produced. Even if it were role players galore. The philosophy seemed to be a mixture of safe and cheap, for the most part. Whether it was more Wilken or Hendry is irrelevant to me honestly. But in the end, since Wilken's the scouting director. I put the blame on him. Because if he didn't agree with the philosophy, he didn't have to be here.
  3. I never took any journalism classes, but is there a class that tells you to write something mind-numbingly stupid to get people talking about it? If so, Olney just did it very well and it gives a nice perspective on Rogers, Rosenbloom, and others. Maybe they're actually brilliant and we'rr just part of a very inside joke they're all in on.
  4. Josh Hamilton hit four homers in a game.
  5. Castro is definitely the guy that we're building around. It'd take a massive overpay for Theo to deal him. Where Olney misses the boat though is the fact that Garza would bring back two high end prospects himself. Dempster would bring in a nice haul and if this is just a mini slump for Lahair, so would he. But, other than Dempster, these guys can all be a part of a future that's soon for us. If you sell off everything, you're Tampa, Miami, KC, Pitt, or some other struggling team financially, that has no other way to do things. If we're 15-45 or some [expletive], fine, lets consider going through a 5 year, sim league type rebuild. But, until then, let's ride things out, see how many pieces we have that fit for a close future and move forward.
  6. Seriously, WSR is right. As bad of an article as it is and as much as I want Castro here, if the O's offered Bundy and Machado, I can't see any reason to turn that down. No matter how bullheaded I sounded earlier. That said, no chance Baltimore would entertain that and I don't blame them.
  7. I didn't post here when that guy was here and I'm fully aware he's a smart guy. But he was so much of a prick, my honest guess is I probably kept holding out hope he was wrong about everything.
  8. Good God, Castro better get a day off tomorrow. Hell, give him off the rest of the week for all I care. I don't think it's going to affect our pennant hopes.
  9. Junior Lake leadoff home run.
  10. Oh well, Vogelbach didn't play today, so he probably had a good BP or something. OTOH, someone can post a link to AZPhil, but Candelario was 3-3, with 2 doubles and a BB. Whitenack went 6, allowing 3 hits, sn unearned run, and 7 K's. 56 pitches, 45 strikes, 8/3 GO/FO ratio. Move him up fellas, he's ready for Daytona at least.
  11. So Hanley Ramirez, as a prospect, had more value than Castro does after 2 seasons? Really? Olney is a [expletive] idiot. Yeah, I'll trade Castro. Give me Bundy, Machado, and Schoop, along with whoever they get at 4 in the draft from Baltimore. Or give me Bauer, Skaggs, Bradley, and whoever Arizona's best hitting prospect is, plus whoever they take in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Too much for you Buster? Then [expletive] off.
  12. Maybe Vogelbach had a good game today. He tweeted that he's glad to back in his comfort zone and that a few tweaks can make a big difference.
  13. Most think he'll settle in as a .260/.270ish hitter with power obviously. A few days ago, we were throwing around Votto as a loose comp, because the K rate was fairly close and so were the homers. Votto did walk more, but they OPS'd close anyway in the minors and Rizzo was younger at each level and has spent less time in the minors. If I remember, Votto had close to a 1000 more plate appearances than Rizzo does to date, in the minors.
  14. I hope it's true. I wasn't ready to give up on him as a starter.
  15. Involving advanced stats? With certain threads going on here right now, it made me remember when I thought like Dusty Baker as well. For me, I remember being excited when we traded for Juan Pierre. I posted on a different site back, but tried reading stuff here, mainly because this board was much bigger and never missed anything breaking. But I remember thinking all these stats are stupid and me eyes tell me what's needed. When we traded for Pierre, I was shocked at how poorly it was received here. Hell, we made fun of it, how badly this site took it. Anyway, by June, I was totally aware he sucked and started trying to understand how this site already knew that, but I didn't. So, I was late in converting, I'm guessing anyway. When was it for everyone else?
  16. Thank you to everyone, I had no clue what I was going to see this thread morph into. Best case scenario.
  17. Oh, it doesn't matter to me when they bring him up. It appears as if it may be early June though(not saying I agree with it) but once he's here, I want him to stay.
  18. Kaplan is 100% sure Dempster is dealt by July 31st. Not sure if he understands the 10/5 rights or not. There's an article someone can post, I would but I'm on my cell.
  19. No, there's a gigantic difference in athleticism there, even if Raley played both ways in college.. A gigantic difference in their upsides when drafted. Nothing to do with right or left handed. The point is Shark always had serious projection. Raley never did.
  20. There's a gigantic difference between Shark and Raley. Shark is a world class athlete that had tons of projection at first. He's finally starting to see the light. Raley? Where's the projection? He kind of is what he is already. Yeah, a potential 5th guy, that every team in baseball has multiples of.
  21. Almost 2 pages of discussion, which is awesome obviously, Jensen threw 5.1, gave up 3 hits, two runs(both earned) 3 walks and struck out 4. Not much on the hitting side. Zapata was 1-1 with 3 walks and 2 steals.
  22. Arias is 21 all season. Turns 22 in January, so he needs to be in Peoria next year at the latest, I guess.
  23. My dream scenario is Giolito at 6, Roache and Alex Wood in the supp, Travieso/Sims/Eflin/Underwood/Traver in the 2nd, and Diekroger in the 3rd.
  24. Actually, I had forgotten Pugliese was that young. Thought he had 2 years of college for some reason. Arias probably needs to see Arizona or at least Boise, correct?
  25. Perfect scenarios for me: Take college pitcher in 1st, follow it with HS pitching in supp. Take Zunino in 1st, follow with HS pitching in supp. Take Almora, Correa, Buxton, Giolito, or Fried in 1st, take college pitching in supp.
