  1. I read somewhere that Antigua's been sitting mid-80's this year. Again, not sure if that is the cause for demotion when he was still getting very solid results or even if it's true.
  2. And that could very well be a rumor put out by a team trying to keep the price down. If it's true, you bid accordingly. Personally, I doubt there's any validity to it.
  3. No, but TT hasn't let it be known that Starlin Castro is on the block either. Actually, I was responding to WSR. But why would it matter if someone's on the block or not? I would think you'd want as many teams as possible to be bidding for a guy like that. And I don't think a single down season should affect the value THAT much of a guy like Upton(injury caveat obviously in play). I guess the question becomes whether a person thinks Upton and Castro have around the same value? Personally, I do.
  4. OK, so you're saying you'd basically trade Castro for a Brett Jackson-led package?
  5. 25 year major league career, 5000 hit club and inducted into the HOF while still playing. I can't get that damn article on him out of my head......Seriously though, they could keep him there as a utility guy, I would think.
  6. I still don't think that's nearly enough. Plenty on here scoffed at getting back Bundy and Machado for Castro. Upton, to Arizona and to quite a few others is at least on a par, value-wise with Castro. The injury concern? Who knows? But my guess is instead of trading him for scraps, Arizona would let him try to build his value back up and prove the injury concern is false. You don't panic and trade a guy like him. They can ride this out and my guess is that's what they'll do. Maybe explore it again over the offseason, after he plays much better in the 2nd half(hopefully, for them).
  7. Plus, Dempster has supposedly only told the Cubs of a few teams he didn't want to go to. So, it doesn't really give the Dodgers a lot of leverage.
  8. Nah, it'd be a massive overpay and they need a bat much more than an arm anyeay, so I keep telling myself if Lee gets dealt, that's what it'd be for. Surely Kasten would put a stop to Ned sending Lee to us. But, I can see Theo making sure that's the case, before agreeing to less. I'm just impatient, if they're waiting it out, they've got a reason as to why.
  9. They certainly were letting it be known they were going to try their "best" on all of them. It seemed to me that their meetings and visits got hyped up by them much differently than with other teams. Could have just been me though.
  10. Come on man. Do you really think Arizona is going to trade Upton without at least one elite talent coming back? You can look at your offer there and realize it makes no sense at all, unless the Cubs and Diamondbacks are the only two teams that play baseball.
  11. Nah, I don't want to deal him for scraps, but if Gould and Withrow is already on the table, same with Crosby and another piece from Detroit, I'm pulling the trigger, instead of holding out for a bit more. That said, Padilla made it sound like we're trying to get Lee from the Dodgers. So, if that's the case, I guess it's worth holding out for a bit.
  12. I'm pretty sure defense is considered the best part of his game.
  13. Zambrano will always be one of my favorite Cubs.
  14. The NO-K'er!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Trey Martin with his 3rd homer for Boise.
  16. Szczur was 3-4, Torreyes was 2-4 with a steal, average up to .253. Loosen hopefully made his last start for Daytona, going 7.1, 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 6 K's.
  17. We are all pissed at how often,Brett K's. No longer. Not when I tell you the Red Sox have an 18th rounder they just drafted by the name of Shaq Green-Thompson. Who has now struck out 31 times.............In 32 at bats.
  18. Jurrjens is getting lit up tonight, Delgado was just sent down, and Teheran has looked bad recently in AAA. If I'm holding out hope for someone, it's Delgado or Teheran for Dempster, or maybe the pair and Salcedo for Garza. But Atlanta can't be happy with the chances their rotation holds up. Sheets may not make it out of July and they're counting on him.
  19. Yeah, Texas wouldn't turn down a one for one of Olt for Garza. As for Turner? I'd still trade Demp straight up for him, but no way to him being the lead piece for Garza.
  20. Maybe there's more available than what we know. But there are supposedly two standing offers out there, you'd think a team would go ahead and address a need and move on to the next one. At any rate, our guys are tight lipped, maybe Levine's just wanting to be different than what everyone else has said today.....
  21. How much [expletive] chicken are they going to play here? Bad starts, injury possibilities, other players entering trade market, teams falling out of the race.....This needs to get done NOW.
  22. Nope. If there's 6 teams that buy FA that were tendered, the 1st round becomes 24 picks from what I can tell.
  23. In the neverending "This new CBA sucks" story, it's now confirmed that when a team loses a player the tender the required offer to, they do NOT receive the 1st round pick that the acquiring team gives up. Instead, that pick just gets forfeited(top 10 protected). The draft just condenses. The team that lost the player just gets the supplemental pick. I'm putting this here, because it could definitely affect offers for Garza.
  24. I agree, but I'll nitpick because Ramirez has fallen completely off the map.
  25. I doubt he's in the majority of top 20's at this point. I think we're pretty much all hoping he can develop into a back end of the pen type, best case scenario. At least in his 2 relief appearances, he's K'd 5 in 4.1. Ridiculously SSS, but it's something.
