  1. After seeing Delgado as a return, Webster is underwhelming. Before Delgado, I would have thought it was solid. Get Gould as a 2nd piece and I really like it though.
  2. Owens and Grossman is a solid return. Kind of wonder if that was on the table for Maholm. If so, I'd have been very happy with it as a return.
  3. Technically, nothing's been called off. I'm hopeful that this still gets resolved before he pitches tomorrow, one way or another.
  4. Mark Bowman, generally considered the guy who broke this yesterday, dropped another nugget in an article this afternoon, mentioning we were getting at least one other minor leaguer in the deal.
  5. I really thought Maholm was getting traded there.
  6. A very plausible scenario to this mess, could be that Atlanta was a backup plan and all parties were aware. Waiting to see if Dodgers upped their offer. It got out and now it appears any potential leverage has been lost.
  7. I wonder if medicals shared would be sufficient for an acquiring team, if Garza misses out on Monday? I'd say no, but with the extra year of control, I guess it's possible a few teams with next year in mind, like Toronto or KC could still make a deal for him.
  8. Yes, supplemental picks DO exist. But an acquieing team is NOT going to give up THEIR 1st rounder for a 36 year old Ryan Dempster. It'd take away their 1st round allotment and they'd have nothing to spend on the draft. Yes, you do this for Hamels or Greinke. Not for Ryan Dempster. We offer him that qualifier, he's staying and doesn't have any options, other than that.
  9. You're right and we're winning 70 games or less during that time. Makes complete sense.
  10. There is no way I let him pitch again befpre the deadline. Forget him starting tomorrow for us, with him supposedly "thinking" about things. Garza is already pushed back til Monday and that's if things go well with him. So, finding a team willing to trade for a guy who may or may not have even pitched over the last two weeks is suspect at best. Dempster becomes our best chip, by default. And him waiting now, while Johnson, maybe Hamels, maybe Greinke, maybe Shields or whoever else comes onto the market just decreases his value even more. It may be complicated, there may be more to it: But the fact is Dempster made mention of making sure the Cubs could get the best return for him. He didn't have to say that. No one asked him to say anything, he said it on his own. And now, he's acting like it's such a huge decision, when in reality, he's had 2 months to think about all of this already, with all the different scenarios. He's forcing us to trade him to LA, point blank. Which is fine, other than the fact that if the FO knew this, they would have taken their offer from a few days ago and we'd be over this mess. Instead, it's likely we've lost whatever little leverage we had, because they've got to be thinking it's us or nobody right about now.
  11. You forgot to mention, Monday, at the earliest. He hasn't thrown yet at all. This deadline sucks.
  12. Well, this offer will be pulled any time now. Can't blame Braves either, since it's apparent he doesn't want to be there.
  13. If, and it's obviously an "if" the Dodgers have Eovaldi on the table for Dempster and he's willing to go there, just go ahead and make the deal. I like Delgado a bit more, but Eovaldi is still a helluva return.
  14. And tons of options that don't include paying a 36 year old over 10 mill a year......
  15. My biggest issue is the Braves pulling the offer, ala Dodgers with Carlos Lee. Seeing that they were willing to give up Delgado for Greinke could give Philly or Milwaukee info that puts them on the phone saying we'll give you a BETTER rental for just a bit more than that, or even just that, for all we know. That happens and we have absolutely zero leverage.
  16. ABTY says Braves people think it's still going to happen.
  17. Why would the Dodgers give up more now that Dempster is (allegedly) practically insisting on going to the Dodgers? In a perfect world, Theo and Demp have agreed he'll go to Atlanta already and be on the phone telling LA this is their last chance, to add whatever it is Theo's wanting to the deal. If they don't, then Demp heads to the Braves.
  18. If they're trying to get more from the Dodgers as a last gasp type of thing, that's be kind of cool. But, I'd honestly rather have Delgado as a single piece than anything the Dodgers have that's probably being talked about.
  19. So much for his I want to help the Cubs get the best possible return for me [expletive].
  20. According to Levine, the Cubs were looking for Castellanos, Turner, and Smyly in a deal for Garza.
  21. Objectively, looking at the Bears, I could see us behind the top 13 of that list, minus the Chargers, and behind Houston and KC.
  22. There's a very wide gap between some of those guys. Alcantara is possibly(is for me) a top 10 prospect in our system.
  23. There's a pretty wide discrepancy on what Almora's HR ceiling is. Most seem to think he's got 12-15 HR power, but McDaniel sees Beltran powwr out of him.
  24. Brett has a very solid rapport with Goldstein and gets most stuff answered. Other than that though, Goldstein seems to ignore most all good questions, to give his one liners to stupid ones.
