  1. I always forget him. After reading he's an up and down guy from someone, it stuck for some reason. I'd throw him in with Dolis and Cabrera and figure one of the 3 begins the season in the majors.
  2. If Soriano had signed a 6 year deal and became a FA this offseason, what kind of contract would he get, assuming he's not qualified? 2 years, 20 mill, is my guess.
  3. From the flexibility standpoint, I want the 2nd, because it's got a million dollar higher allotment than 3, 3 does the same over 4, and 4 does the same over 5. Not to mention the fact you have the opportunity to get the clearcut better player, if there is one, by that time. Heading into the 2014 offseason, conceivably we'll have Baez, Soler, Almora, and whoever our pick is, all inside the top 50 prospects in baseball. Plus, guys like Vogelbach, Villanueva, Candelario, Amaya,Paniagua, Johnson and maybe a few others that have a shot at becoming top 100 types by that time as well.
  4. Couple of tidbits from Sickels' AQA from this weekend: Amaya is now a B- for him, up from a C+. Could see him as a DeRosa tgpe moving forward. Grade solely on Vogelbach's bat and nothing else, is a B+.
  5. Levine's chats aren't usually good for much, but he did say he expects the Cubs to move on from Stewart, the coaches weren't real happy with his work habits.
  6. There's a solid amount of decent to better OFers available in FA this year. Yes, Soriano has had a much better season than most of them, but the question is will teams think he can do it again, at 37? Because the other guys just cost money, Soriano will cost prospects. Granted, a cash strapped team may want Soriano, if he winds up the cheapest out of the group monetarily, if we eat enough cash. Which I believe we'd do. I really expect him to wind up a Yankee and us paying 30 mill, in order to get a fairly decent return. Baltimore, Tampa, and Detroit are 3 other teams I could see him going to as well.
  7. I thought he already did for some reason. Also, who is Stephen Perakslis? College draftee, decent fastball, not much else, if I remember correctly.
  8. On a sour note, I hate not seeing Rosario on that list. Gotta wonder if he has or is going to have TJS at this point......
  9. If we CAN get either or both for 2 years or less, I'll be pissed as well, if we at least don't wind up with one of them.
  10. Damn, I forgot Concepcion existed. Hopefully the mono affected his early pitching and he comes back from it better than Simpson did.
  11. McCarthy 1-12, Melky 1-10, Villanueva 2-10, a couple relievers on 1 year deals, Vitters for Sonny Gray, Szczur, Villanueva, and Watkins for Delgado, Soriano and cash to Yanks for Marshall and Gumbs.
  12. Really? I just don't see them getting longterm deals at all. Not after the injury issues they've had. I'm not opposed to longterm deals, by the way, just don't think they're necessary for us yet. Next offseason? Maybe, probably actually. But either way, I don't see those guys getting them right now.
  13. Those types are available every year. There's no reason to add one on a longterm deal until we're competing. Adding the shortterm deal guys allows you to deal them at least. And I seriously doubt guys like Marcum, McCarthy, Liriano get more than a or two, at the max.
  14. We face righties for each of the next 7 games, at least. Mather has expired.
  15. Oh, and after seeing Raisin's post, I should also say someone hitting their upside is pretty rare. But, in each case, those guys ARE all interesting.
  16. Almora has AllStar upside, Candelario MAY have an All Srar type bat, Amaya, Vogelbach, and Marco all have starter capabilities, possibly above average regulars. Martin is a bit of a question mark for me right now, but at this stage, I think I'd say his upside is average starter. Bruno has utility guy upside at worst. Contreras, as a catcher, too early to tell, but I'd say solid backup for now.
  17. Because they likely don't want to tie themselves in to average pitchers on longterm deals. Outside of Greinke, there's nothing better than midrotation guys out there in FA. Theo already mentioned the possibility of dealing away 40% of a good rotation at next years deadline. That seems like Garza and an addition to me. We've got Shark and possibly Wood here for a while. Maybe Vizcaino can be a guy, maybe we get one thru trade over the offseason. Maybe get one by trading Garza or someone else at the deadline. But locking into a 3-5 year deal with an Edwin Jackson or Annibal Sanchez doesn't make a lot of sense when you can goget Liriano, Marcum or McCarthy for a shorter term, same with a Villanueva possibly.
  18. Like clockwork, Olney just listed his, in order, as Miley, Frazier, and Harper.
  19. Really early, but it's looking like the opposite right now. It's possible the first 3 picks could all be college pitchers.
  20. Nah, but Harper's winning it. .793 OPS at 19 is special and his stats are solid at least. I don't get why you keep bringing up his age. I guess just to reiterate how good he's going to be. Although his age will have nothing to do with him winning ROY.
  21. I'm not sure the voters will necessarily look at it that way, even if they should. The voters are usually stupid, but they'll see him as a high profile rookie on the winningest team in the NL and give it to him anyway.
  22. I put it in the game thread too, but Harper is going to win it. Stats don't look great, until you realize he's still 19.
  23. Nah, but Harper's winning it. .793 OPS at 19 is special and his stats are solid at least.
  24. Yeah, they can't be. I messed up on them. That said, I doubt Dempster comes back, because he knows we'll just trade him again and Sanchez could get a really hefty deal from a mid/small market borderline contender that probably keeps him from being a real option for us, since it seems we'll be looking for shortterm deals again. I'm rwally starting to think we get Villanueva, as an upside type. And a Marcum type vet, along with a trade for a young, upside type guy. Won't be sexy, but fits with what the plan appears to be.
  25. And Garza's likely getting dealt between now and the deadline and we have no discernable pitching in the upper levels of the system, other than a guy coming off TJS. Hence, the verbage of "we ain't got no pitching".
