  1. Is that THAT bad of a scenario? We're not contending(at least not by anything we've heard from the FO anyway). If Vitters is dealt, he's probably a piece in a deal that nets us a young pitcher. Valbuena? I don't care one way or the other on, but I can at least see him plugging a roster spot for a full year. Rolen? Yeah, he's like 90, but he's probably as good as there is on the FA market this year and he's the epitomy of a stopgap until Baez is ready, which I could see happening quickly and I'm starting to think the FO does too, since he's headed to the AFL already.
  2. More stunned we'd have been had we not protected Ryan Flaherty? For me, absolutely. Power was the only thing Flaherty had on Watkins.
  3. Logan Watkins hit HR #8. I asked KG if he's a future starter and he said no, but could be a utility dude. Not shocking, but I will be stunned at this point if he's left unprotected.
  4. My prediction is Valbuena is a utility guy next year for us, Vitters is dealt in the offseason and we sign Rolen to a one year deal.
  5. The funniest thing about this is that I honestly see Theo and Jed looking at each other and Jed saying "WTF man? and Theo responding with "no [expletive] clue"........
  6. Give in.
  7. I guess we'll have a weighted competition next year between Wood, Rusin, and Raley for one rotation spot, unless we move Wood in a deal that helps us upgrade something.
  8. He'll be our C for a few years, maybe longer if we don't take a college guy who moves quickly thru the system. I'm fine with that, because I think he's league average to possibly a bit better than that.
  9. Yeah, I don't have an issue with it. Vitters definitely isn't ready and Valbuena hits arb after the season. They can at hopefully figure out if Valbuena can be a utility guy next year and beyond. All they can find out on Vitters is what he's already shown: A definite lack of being ready right now.

It was brought up in the Vitters/Jackson callup thread. Well I'm a dumbass.

I'm putting this here because I guess it's where it ultimately pertains to the most. The Cubs are going to give Valbuena the bulk of the playing time at 3B over the last month. I guess it's apparent that they know Vitters isn't close to being ready and my guess is unless he's dealt, he's a lock to start out at Iowa next year.
  12. In this case, I think it would be. Mainly because they werwn't planning on adding a closer. and assuming Jansen comes back next year, it keeps them around the same payroll and having added a nice one year set up guy in Marmol. Gould is a trade piece, they've got no room in their plans for him. He's not having a great year, seems like a good fit for all. If we're able to deal with them at all and they're not pissed still.(if any of that was true)
  13. From everything I read, it was the correct call. Valbuena whiffed on the throw and should have had it.
  14. Kenley Jansen is having heart issues for the second time. May miss the rest of the season. Horrible news and I hope he's OK. That being said, if paying the majority of Marmol's contract next season could net us Garrett Gould, I'd be all for it.
  15. His arm is hell of a lot younger though.
  16. I kind of doubt our FO is very high on him. They didn't protect him last offseason. I look at this this as a last gasp chance for him to impress.
  17. Being that neither McNutt or Watkins is on the AFL roster, I think this means they're definitely getting added to the 40 man now.
  18. What they've done isn't about this year for the most part. But having a lineup that has Crawford, Hanley, Kemp, Gonzo, and Ethier is more than formidable. And I can see them trying to add another solid bat as well to it. I don't think Crawford's done whatsoever though and I at least acknowledge that could spark a debate. They've got Kershaw and Billingsley and enough back end guys to be solid in the rotation, but I still fully expect them to go get another TOR arm over the offseason. The good news for us is that this group could easily be out of their primes as a collective unit once we're good and they won't have enough to throw a true superteam out there on top of what they've spent. But I definitely see them as the favorites in the NL for the next 2-3 years and will continue to be really good after that, just declining a bit. Basically, I figure they'll add another bat and a TOR arm somehow. One thru trade and one thru FA by the time next season starts.
  19. Maybe it's not fair to compare the penalties to that of the NBA, but I can't see how these penalties should affect a team like the Yankees. To me, it's just a change in philosophy going from George to Hal and Hank. I know George didn't always meddle Cashman into the best moves, but no one can ever deny his want to win. I think it's fair to question his sons at this point. But the luxury tax is a 17.5% tax on the overage in year 1, from a 189 mill payroll. It moves to 30, 40, and tops out at a 50% penalty in year 4. If a team carries a 300 mill payroll, it's basically a 55 mill tax from year 4 and past. With the TV deals these teams are getting, it's just not that much when you're making it back that easily. The Yankees are going to have to change some things up or the Dodgers are very likely yo become the new team everyone loves to hate.
  20. Amaya just hit one a few batters earlier too.
  21. If the Dodgers actually get a TV deal in the 4-5 billion range, this truly is going to get ridiculous.
  22. Almora's back in the lineup for Boise.
  23. 2 2 0 0 1 0 line for Wells on 28 pitches.
