  1. If this was a good move, it would have helped the Cubs.
  2. Please tell me you're kidding. The guy is 5 for 54. OPS of .292. If he's not in the lineup everyday, they're working with him to where he can be in it and deserve to be in it at some point.
  3. If it's posted elsewhere, I haven't seen it yet, but Josh Sale and Marcus Stroman got popped for PEDs today.
  4. Phenomenal.
  5. You question Baez? He's only had 300 PA this year and could use the work. He turns 20 this year and has barely played half a season of professional baseball. More from a "is he ready for it standpoint" than anything, I guess. AFL is considered what? Solid AA for the most part? I totally understand challenging Baez and obviously think he's our top prospect. Just wondering if next year is the better time to put him in the AFL. A lot of times the AFL is used to get a better look at guys we need to protect on the 40 man, so I was thinking they may need Watkins, Szczur, maybe Rhee, maybe Batista or a few other guys to really get a better feel for. Soler, I totally expect to be there. I understand Javy's development trumps anyone elses though, just figure he's not on quite the timetable Soler is. Plus, while he DOES only have that many pro at bats, he did get quite a few early in the year in EXST, so that does at least count towards his development somewhat anyway. Like I said, if he goes, I'll be excited to see it. I just figure he's not going to be rushed.
  6. Each MLB team is only allowed one player below AA so that can't be right. If the Cubs moved Soler or Javy to Tennesse for the last week, is that allowed or are they required to be there for a certain length?
  7. http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/08/27/cubs-keep-heat-arizona Some excellent info from AZPhil on a bunch of different stuff in the comments......
  8. RF DeJesus 3B Valbuena 1B Rizzo LF Soriano SS Castro C Castillo CF B Jackson 2B Barney P Wood
  9. It's Levine, so I don't know whether it's something he's heard or whether it's his speculation, but he expects both Javy and Soler to be announced on AFL rosters. Soler, I completely understand, Javy? Guess it can't hurt, if true. Do we get 5 or 6 guys, anyone remember?
  10. Any interest? I like him and think he's better than Davis at least. We'd have to cut Spaeth, unless we wanted to send Rodriguez packing, which I can't see happening. He's missed like 20 games in 3 years. He's less than durable. Well yeah, I live in an area where the Redskins are king. But my guess is he's going to take a small one year deal somewhere to reprove himself. If he did stay healthy, he'd be a nice weapon for us, in my mind. If not, we've still got Davis, who I don't see as a longterm fix for us anyway.
  11. Yeah, I figure Rosenthal got it right, but they weren't in anything I've seen yet as being official.
  12. Any interest? I like him and think he's better than Davis at least. We'd have to cut Spaeth, unless we wanted to send Rodriguez packing, which I can't see happening.
  13. Deal is official, no confirmation of numbers Rosenthal reported.
  14. Wonder if we could trade them Soriano, Brett Wallach, and Field #3 in mesa for it. Was on the table, but they asked for Reed Johnson as a sweetener.
  15. Is George Springer a fairly good comp on Wilson, Raisin?
  16. I think that each of Stanek, Maneaea, and Whitson at least have a better chance of increasing their stock than Appel does. If we go pitching in the 1st, I really hope it's one of those guys, because it's much more likely to me we'd be getting a guy with true ace potential, than if we get Appel. And that would trump going the Houston route for me.
  17. They're still supposedly looking for another SP.
  18. Some time ago, I put on the blog that Alcantara was done for the year. Was it a leg injury, I can't seem to remember.......Oh and glad to see pop in!
  19. So his next 23 PA he'll have like a 2.000 OPS. How about a Kyle waffle chart?
  20. Appel could easily wind up in the same boat again. Unless things change and a clear cut top guy emerges, why would Houston do anything differently than they just did? I fully expect them to negotiate with 5 guys or so and take the guy who gives them the biggest discount, allowing them to spread the money out over 3 or 4 more guys. And we'll likely have the choice of taking the true top talent or doing the same as Houston.
  21. Arbitration for 4 years would have resulted in 4 consecutive raises for him, as it is. Conceivably he'd then have received another salary bump as a FA as well. My guess is if we went year to year with him in arb, he'd have gotten something like 4,7,11, and 15, based on him becoming a perennial AS caliber SS, possibly more. Hell of a deal.
  22. Anyone got anything on Corbin Hoffner? I think we gave him the full 100k and he's a really big guy at 6'5, 235. I can't remember but it seems like he's 87-90ish with a good slider as his out pitch, but I can't remember.
  23. I think CT was referencing that he only went an inning. Of course, I doubt he goes much more this outing anyway.
  24. I thought the same thing, but years 4-7 are a gigantic discount as they are. Great deal for all.
  25. Such a great deal for us. Glad he's getting paid and glad we're getting a discount.
