  1. Plus a lot of Ks and lower BA/OBP. Stubbs career line is .245/.317/.398. 559k's in 1911 PA. when all is said and done, I think I can envision Brett's line in that general area. And honestly, maybe a bit more SLG. Thought Stubbs hit for more power than that. That's a tad under a 30% K rate, I'm not sure we'll be seeing Brett get down(ha) to quite that low.
  2. Even though it's expected, I'm a bit disappointed in the loss of velo from Underwood.
  3. All I know is he had a damn good series and we should be happy about it. I am starting to think Drew Stubbs may be an accurate comp, minus a little power.
  4. At any rate, the guys I've heard speak glowingly on Rubby are Law and KG, at different points and a bunch of guys at fangraphs. FWIW, if he were rookie eligibke midseason last year, Law would have had him in his top 25 and said he has ace stuff. Mike Newman, from ScoutingtheSally says he's got the best FB he has ever seen live. If his slider can stick as an average pitch, I really see him as a 1 or a 2. The change is a plus pitch and the FB may be plus, plus. Endurance could be an issue, due to his size, but I really, really like him. Control needs a bit of work too. I really wanted him in a Dempster or Garza deal badly.
  5. That's awesome. Not sure whether that or the idea of him getting beaned a few weeks ago and shaking it right off and trotting to first is my favorite Vogelment so far.
  6. Damn, serious brain fart. For some reason I was thinking he was in Boise, no clue why.
  7. What's the account name? EDIT: Found it.
  8. Unsure what's going on, maybe I'm interpreting things wrong, but it appears Garrett Schlect is telling his teammates goodbye on Twitter. He scored the winning run last night, so I don't think he's hurt. Sounds like he's meeting people in Missouri. Just curious, anyone know if that was his college commitment?
  9. Is he posting under it yet? I thought I was following it, but can't find anything.

I don't think for a second we're counting on all these guys to make it to the majors though. Baez and Soler? Yeah. I figure even Almora possibly could be trade bait. If not, I guess he's waiting behind Brett and we can be patient, because that means Brett makes it. On the other hand, guys like Candelario, Vogelbach, maybe some of the pitching we just drafted, Villanueva, Amaya, whoever else, they'll be trade bait. Along with guys we draft next year possibly. Hell, Baez could wind up getting dealt for all I know. But some of these guys WILL be very solid trade pieces once they're in full season ball.
  11. No, I said he can slot into his spot, but needs to get his velo back and innings up. Not really sure why you'd think that meant immediately whatsoever. Maybe I should have worded that a bit differently but it's not close to even being the first time I've mentioned him and figure most know he's coming off TJS and won't be doing much this year. At any rate, that's not what SSR is talking about, he's disputing the talent. And he's just wrong.
  12. He's a backup catcher though. He's fine. A .600 OPS out of a backup C is probably pretty decent. I think he can do that at least some years.
  13. Can we talk about a B prospect being called a TOR arm? Sorry man, you should read a bit or watch the guy. You're just really wrong here. 100 MPH, damn good changeup. If he commands his slider even somewhat, he's got ace potential. And it's not even disputable honestly. He has one of the absolute best arms in baseball. The potential is definitely there to be TOR.

I understand and respect the length of time you've followed the Cubs. Things are different with this regime and if you're not following the minors and the draft, you should. It'd probably show you things are progressing when the major league product looks awful. There's been plenty of guys here starting to follow much closer. It'd be easier for you to see progress at least.
  15. Candelario was 2-3 with a walk. Not much else going on for Boise.
  16. Brett has played a damn good CF since the callup.

    BacktoKubek?
  18. Soler finished 2-5 with a 2B.
  19. Hopefully they fill it in FA next year. You can get a decent guy without breaking the bank. And he's likely to be better than a midrounder anyway. At any rate, decent gamble, but didn't work. Hope Emery decides oft-injured guys are off limits from here on out.
  20. The local media contract ends after the 2013 season. The new deal will likely eclipse the Yankees contract. Texas just got about 150 mil a year (and the Angels a bit more), the Dodgers should be worth at least twice that. So the new owners are just trying to pump up interest before negotiations. note: The Cubs receive about 50 mil a year from WGN and CSN. Though the WGN contract ends 2014, the CSN contract doesn't until after 2019. I wonder if the Cubs will even have any interest in working a new deal with WGN now that the Tribsters aren't involved in ownership. My guess is they'll renegotiate the CSN deal, instead of anything else with WGN. With the Cubs network being the end objective, so nothing that obligates them any longer than they already are.

You're right. Hendry didn't inherit an 89 win team. He inherited a team that had a damn good foundation that made the playoffs in year 2 for him. He fucked that team up within an extremely short time, spent wildly to get good again, had no plan whatsoever to stay good, and this is why Theo was brought in. To clean up a [expletive] mess. Sorry, but Theo was the right hire, whether he's managed a rebuild or not. You could quit bitching, try to see things how he's looking at it, or you can continue to moan and groan about what it is we're NOT doing. But you need to figure out the reason we're NOT spending big right now is because a very well thought of GM took a look at the roster he had inherited and saw that it was SO fucked up, a complete teardown was the best way to go.

As for Theo mistakes since he's been here, the only ones I hold him accountable for are not signing Cespedes and relenting to the 4 year deal and not trading Garza last offseason, when it appears the plan all along was to trade him and they got burned. That's it. I've been OK with everything else, considering the plan has been to rebuild the mess that he inherited.

Good God, can you honestly not see that Theo's track record has EARNED him complete control? Hendry had the exact same ability as Theo did. He had tons of advantages over the vast majority of the NL and instead of averaging 93 wins, he put together short runs of semi success, followed by periods of awfulness. He showed ZERO ability to change in the way the game dictated. He did not do a good job whatsoever. No GM is perfect, Theo included. What's happening there right now has his fingerprints all over it. But he has already admitted he made mistakes and took shortcuts during his final years there. Cutting corners. And yet, because he's admitted that and is taking the slower, more cautious approach here, you're upset with it. It's obvious you'd have jumped right back into FA in a big way, just as Hendry would have. Theo has made mistakesvin the past and will make them again. But I have no doubt he won't make the SAME mistakes over and over and that's what separates him from a Jim Hendry, with [expletive] ease.
