  1. Amaya with his 7th homer. Jeffry Baez made his AZL debut tonight. Cool to see.
  2. Astros are on another level. We can go 4-37 for the rest of the season and the Astros still have to win at a higher percentage than they currently are in order for us to beat them by a game. It'd require them to go on a 13-27 hot streak.
  3. As a Cubs, Bulls, and Bear fan, in that order, I get enough football and basketball talj here honestly. The only other team I post on another board for is UNC. And considering most of you guys are in Illinois, or Big 10 country, I totally get why I need to go elsewhere for that one.......For pro sports though, this place gives me more than enough.
  4. Quakers summed it up great. I think he'll be the new Rob Deer of minor league baseball. Tons of homers, tons of K's, horrible BA the higher up he gets, but a walk rate that keeps him in the lineup. Doubtful he ever becomes a guy we get excited about, other than the cool ass name. Hope I'm wrong though, he seems like a good kid.
  5. A loss tonight lets us overtake Colorado for 2nd.
  6. That's the thing: It wasn't reported at all. He may have been signed as one of the group that signed with Del Valle? I know Del Valle got 800k and I think the rest of the group got 700k combined. His status though, wouldn't have mattered, CBA-wise, because of his age. But as a guy with either 3/4 starter or even setup guy potential, at his age, he would have gotten millions, if he was remotely well thought of.
  7. And the official "throwing [expletive] up against the wall" portion of the season has officially kicked off.......Honestly though, we ought to see if between him and Raley we have a back end lefty between them.
  8. With the whole website fiasco, there's rumors he may get suspended even longer. The amount of cash this guy just lost is insane.
  9. At this point, we've got tons of flexibility with our 40 man, even with having 44 guys on it currently. We'll possibly, even likely deal a few guys we know would stick on it, but here's my current breakdown: Safe- Beliveau, Cabrera, L Castillo, Marmol, Russell, Shark, Wood, Vizcaino, Garza, Concepcion, Dolis, Raley, Lake, W Castillo, Clevenger, Barney, Castro, LaHair, Rizzo, Vitters, Jackson, Soriano, DeJesus, Szczur, Soler, Campana, FA- Camp, Mather Non Tender Probabilities- Volstad, Stewart Probable keepers- Corpas, Valbuena, Jaye Chapman, Germano, Cardenas Possible keepers, but I doubt it- Parker, Mateo, Maine, Sappelt, Bowden, Hinshaw Guys we can DFA and get back- Brigham, Coleman, Lalli I'm putting Brigham in that last group solely because of his elbow issue. My gut tells me Sappelt is still in our system, but not on our 40 man after this season and the group of pitchers I listed with him, maybe we keep 1 of them. Corpas, Valbuena, and Germano are all borderline interesting, based on each probably being arb eligible. Corpas being the only one going to make over a mill though, I think we'll keep all 3. At any rate, it puts us at 32 if we keep all the guys I mentioned as likely and the guys I listed as possibilities, before we add guys from the next class. Of which, at this point, Villanueva is about the only lock, in my eyes, along with Rusin. My guess is Watkins, McNutt and Peralta get kept at this point too, but that's it. Rosario's elbow issue probably keeps him from being in danger, and we could wind up losing 2 of Whitenack, Struck, Hatley, and Jay Jackson. But if we care about them, we've still got plenty of options to get rid of more. About the only advanof having a crappy roster at the moment.
  10. Giolito hurt his elbow again. Headed to see Dr. Yocum.
  11. Do we think Brett can be a successful starter if he has a 30% K rate in the majors?
  12. That's a really flippant article, to be honest. 3/4 starter? We have less than one hand's worth of those guys playing in fullseason ball. To even mention a 28 year old that signed for next to nothing(at his age, that's obviously a gigantic indicator) has average stuff at best, and has control issues as a possible 3/4 guy is just bad. Brett has the best Cubs blog around, by far, in my mind. But his minor league guy is shitty.
  13. Wonder if they'll move Vogelbach up?
  14. We've got 44 guys on the 40 man now, with Vizcaino, Mateo, Parker, and Stewart being on the 60 day DL. My honest guess is when our offseason is over, we'll have 20 guys on the 40 man that aren't on it currently.
  15. Officially postponed. [expletive] Daytona. I hope like hell they get out of there as quick as they can.
  16. Finished a [expletive] inning in game 1 before it's started to rain in Daytona.
  17. Castillo has some sort of foot injury. Saw an article mentioning Sveum understood why he didn't advance to 2nd yesterday, due to it.
  18. I'd like that a lot, but is he willing to move off SS?
  19. I keep waiting for a team to get antsy and pull the trigger on Marmol.
  20. KG thinks he has a shot because of pitchibility. To my knowledge, there's not been an uptick in his stuff.
  21. Damnit, Hardin leaving on a stretcher.
  22. Is he definitely playing in the AFL? Not a definite. I'd say likely though.
