Honestly, in saying that, I fully expect us to be fielding damn good teams during the latter part of the initial 5. But we'll have lots of young, cheaper guys, so the payroll won't be high. Kind of like Texas a few years back. As much as I've announced how much I love this direction, if we don't have 2 playoff runs in the first 5 years and at least 4 out of the folkowing 5, then the group has been unsuccessful, given the resource advantages we've got over the division. And while 6 in 10 years is acceptable, I'm hoping for 7 or even 8.

What's $20-30M gonna do to future budgets? You can't really just apply it to one year. If you budget it over 5-6 years, it's not really a consequential increase. But that's not all it would be. That much was saved just this year alone. I'll be shocked if our payroll is much over 100 for 2013 either and that allows us to add some really solid pieces AND stay down that low. And with the amount of good, young, cheap talent we'll supposedly have playing, it's going to be a long time before we're looking at a 150 mill payroll most likely. Even when we do spend on a few guys. I'm thinking that if this is a 10 year run for this group, there's likely to be 150 mill saved over the first 5 years, that could be added towards the last 5.
  3. The cohesion of this FO is hopefully what separates it from the disconnect that happened between the Trib, MacPhail, and Hendry.

Not that there's a snowballs chance in hell of it happening, but if this IS the route we take, I want to see actual baseball ops budgets and how much we're saving now, that can and presumably WILL be spent later.
  5. Seeing a guy win a Triple Crown was cool, since I've never been alive for one. But Trout should be MVP. Doubt the voters agree though.

Baez will be higher on just about every prospect list than Olt.

If Texas trades Olt, wouldn't it be much more likely, it'd be for something thats going to definitively help their major league roster? They already have a great system, as it is.
  8. Oh, and even with the struggles, I think Brett is in the PCL top 20. Especially since Callis said he's got a shot at the top 100 still.
  9. Actually, I'm wrong. BA is obviously high on Villanueva, he's got to be one of them.
  10. Evidently last night, David Cone said something to the effect of Ichiro swings a chop stick.

How about Barney, Brett, Wood, and Villanueva for Upton? Vitters, Szczur, and LaHair for Chisenhall and sign McCarthy, Villanueva, and Liriano? Decent? Or way too little for Upton?
  12. I think Alcantara makes the FSL list over Szczur. Vitters is my guess for the other one.

If porn is included, it won't be the one eyed, wooden legged, 300 pound types, which I expect the following season to be.
  14. They had a guy on the 15-day DL that they moved to the 60-day DL. Good. I was fine with this, as long as it didn't hurt an actual player's career. I'm trying to remember Greenberg's situation back when he got called up by us. He was only called up because Pie was hurt, right? And had to be added to the 40 man at that point, right? I know he wasn't highly thought of as a prospect, but it there had to be a decent chance, if not for Pie's injury, he'd have never been placed on our 40 man, right?
  15. Did the Marlins have to DFA someone to make this happen?
  16. Damn, looks like all the regulars will sit tomorrow, other than Castro, who'll play a few innings.
  17. Hopefully they'll score 10 tomorrow with homers from Rizzo, Castro, Castillo, and Brett, to at least give us a nice end to a shitty season.
  18. Anything about Rosario's injury situation, by any chance?

I think one of Cabrera or Dolis becomes a solid bullpen piece for us next year.

I'll use live action smilies and possibly some porn for the landmark bajillionth one.

Levine mentioned in his chat today we had an interest in Lonnie Chisenhall previously. As far as 3B goes, I'd be pretty happy if we could get him. I'm not sure Upton gets sealt, unless they're willing to take a discount off their asking price.

If we're going to win73 games this year and 83 next year, before making a strong run by adding guys at all points between now and then, I'd just as soon have 65 win seasons personally. But I think we'll be able to add what's needed to contend, quicker than most do, admittedly. The end result: Everyone's on the same page here, it's just in the how we're getting there, that we have two completely opposite sides on. But as much as I'm for the apparent way things are headed, if we're not pushing for the playoffs in 2014 and beginning a dominant run in 2015, I'll be pissed as hell. Because even I'll admit that's more than enough time to get this thing done in.
  23. Cool. Never saw that. By the way, one thing we still don't know about the qualifier is this: If a player is given the offer, does he have to turn it down? Or is the team on the hook for it throughout the entire offseason? What happens if the player turns it down, then a team is not willing to forfeit their 1st to sign him? My guess is they would have a date in place during the following season that the comp pick becomes null and void. And the guy is free to whatever team he signs with, but it's a total guess, on my part.
  24. There's no such thing anymore. Instead, for us to get a comp pick, we need to offer him whatever the qualifying offer is at that point. This year, it's a tad over 13 mill. He has to sign with someone else and that team loses their first rounder(we would NOT receive it) With this being the first year of this, it's going to be interesting to see how many teams are willing to lose their 1st(and the draft allotment that goes with it) Same with how many teams offer it, to try and keep the player, just on a one year(NFL franchise tag) type of commitment.
  25. You've got Greinke, Edwin, Sanchez, Marcum, Haren, Peavy, McCarthy, Dempster, Lohse, Kuroda as FA who all will just cost money, instead of money and prospects. Then you're likely to have Shields or Price, Josh Johnson, Tommy Hanson or another Atlanta guy, one of Oaklands guys, possibly Lester, possibly Cliff Lee, Mastreson, and who knows who else out there for trade. And all those guys are currently pitching. Garza isn't going to net a big offer right now. Hell, he didn't at the deadline. When he was due back any day and there were many less options available to teams.
