    Yeah, the market value for decent relief pitching just went up. That said, one year of Marmol might start looking pretty good to teams right about now.

    Nothing would stop it, but it'd have to be the perfect situation for something like that to go down. In all honesty, as volatile as trying to project 16 year olds is, I'm not sure how many teams will actually be trying to get extra money here. It'll be interesting to see how much(or how little) teams value their budget here.

    I'm very happy he won a well-deserved GG. Now trade him if he brings us a solid return.

    Each team will be given 4 different pools of equal money, dependent on last years finish. We have 2nd highest amount(somewhere between 4.3-4.9mill). You can only trade your IFA budget in 1/4's. Not saying you can't acquire a teams entire IFA allotment, just you can't get 3/5 of it basically. That said, you can only acquire extra IFA money up to half your own original allotment. And once you start spending it, its half of whatever you have at the time of the trade.

    The numbers haven't been given to the teams yet. But they will be soon, because they're able to be dealt over the offseason.

    Evidently you can waive them. But it'd be a thing where the player knows where he's going to be playing from the get-go. They just get their money from a different team. I guess you'd kind of have to recruit a small market team early in the offseason and come up with some parameters up front. "We'll send you 10 mill for whatever and you give us this prospect". Then let that team make it work from there. But the player knows up front that this is how it's going to go down.

    Did you think that was bad? I honestly thought he'd get 3 and an option on the open market. The AAV sounds about right to me.

    Peavy just got 2/29 to stay with the White Sox, with an option based on IP. One less guy on the market. I bet Haren gets dealt now.

    Well, I figure it'd be a working trade from the outset. Meaning in this scenario, Marcum would know beforehand, that he's going to the Royals, juat that the Astros would be getting prospects for him and paying his salary.

    It's not in any violation. SSR brings up a good point though. That COULD happen: But would Selig do that? If a small market team wants to contend and gets creative, it shouldn't be his call to not allow it. No clue what he'd do here.

    Dave Cameron wrote an interesting piece today on the possibility of NBA-style, sign and trades, in MLB. He gave an example of this: Astros make a prearranged 1-8 deal with Marcum, have him agree to waive his immediate trade rights for an extra 500k. Then pick up his salary and immediately trade him to the Royals for prospects. With the excess money we have, if this kind of opportunity comes up with a small market team, I hope we jump all over it. Pretty creative way to still "buy" prospects, while not breaking draft budget or IFA rules.

    David Price was complementing him bigtime too. On a side note, I've had Gray as a possible trade piece for us to acquire. Probably enhances that possibility more now. Vitters for Gray, straight up? Or would the volatility of minor league pitching allow us to get a bit more?

    Last year, we wanted depth. Go 9 deep as far as the rotation went. I doubt that changes. Especially given Garza's current status and the fact they've never made it clear Wood is a lock. I figure we'll go into the year with 6 legit SP, with a guy on the DL or a guy(Wood possibly) starting out as a long guy out of the pen.

    I don't think it's for financial help at all. More like an Ethier/Capuano for Cliff Lee type of swap or something similar, so they can go after Hamilton.

    I'm reading that as he did it while celebrating, at the stadium(dugout?). And unless we hear otherwise, it's what I'm going to continue believing. And in all honesty, if it was something else, I think we'd hear about some sort of disciplanary action.

    Haren had been worth 36 WAR over the 7 seasons prior to 2012. Will his velo return? No idea. But for a rebuilding team with tons of payroll flexibility, it's the perfect one year risk to see if it does, as long as the price isn't high. My guess is it'd take a couple of backend top 30 types from our system. Just not that many teams that can give him 15 mill in 2013. And I doubt they'd trade him to the Dodgers. On the other hand, if he hits the open market, plenty of contenders would come calling, probably winding up going multiple years on him, just to get him there. I really hope we take this chance. One year commitment, likely minimal risk, and possible huge upside.

    I've suggested that actually, but in all reality, Buehrle likely gets 3/36 if he were a FA right now, maybe even gets 4 years guaranteed. I don't think the Marlins have to throw Johnson into a deal, just to get salary relief for Buehrle. Plus, considering the fact they're paying the majority of Heath Bell's deal, I think their main concern is getting the best return possible.

    I believe the only difference is that just because he's posted, the KBO team has the right to pull him back, if the winning bid isn't to their liking.

    Boras also has a guy signed that almost came over last year, named Sook-Min Yoon. He's a RHP that sits at 93, has a solid change and curve, with a hard slider in the mid 80's. He's 26 now and has one more year before he's a FA. No talk yet if he'd get posted this offseason though, as of yet. He won the KBO pitching Triple Crown in 2011. Definitely a guy we'll be hearing about, either this offseason or next, because he wants to pitch in the majors.

    Saw a scouting report that said he hits 95 and works 90-91. No clue as to what kind of money he'll get. Other than he'll get less than Darvish.

    Yeah, I thought the same thing after seeing those pics. He's listed at 6'2, 215. Proportionally, I guess that's in line.

    Right. Only difference between this and Japan is just because he gets posted, they don't HAVE to let him come over unless they like the amount of the posting fee. Reading a bit more on him, by the way, he appears to be better than Wei-Yin Chen. The change up is a legit out pitch in the majors and he profiles as a legit 3. The Yanks have shown interest.

    Who? He's a 25 year old lefty from South Korea and he's going to be posted. He hits 93 and ML scouts like the command he has on his change and slider. He's already signed with Boras. In 7 seasons of pro ball in KBO, he's averaged 181 innings and led the league in K's 5 times. BA rated him the 5th best international prospect at the 2009 WBC, right ahead of Cespedes. That's all I got from the article I read, can't post it from my phone. John Manuel has a link to it on his Twitter. At any rate, this is the type of pitching I want us targeting this offseason.
