If you look past April, Dolis K'd 22 in 24.1 major league innings.
  2. Without knowing for sure what the reason is, my guess is a Japanese player has to go undrafted(their draft is in a few weeks) before he is eligible to sign with an MLB team. No clue what kind of money they make over there, but I do know if he goes to the US without playing over there, he has a 3 year sit out period, if he goes back there. My guess is he gets drafted and thats the end of this. That said, I suppose he could get drafted and his team immediately posts him. Which would then put us in the game to get him.
  3. He does WTF he wants.
  4. I disagree completely. He has a voidable option if he's traded. You're basically trading for the right to negotiate a longterm deal with him. We easily have the pieces to get him, if thats what we(and he) wants.
  5. It "could" be worth it sometimes. Just a 75% penalty on overage if its by less than 5%. Between 5-10%, it turns to where you can't sign anyone over 500k the following year and the penalty monetarily. 10-15% turns to the same with a 100% penalty. If you go over by 15%+ it turns to where you can't sign anyone over 250k and the money. Not bad, IF you have a low allotment and expect to be good the following year. But, in our case, we'd have tge 2nd highest allotment and unable to spend it on bigtime players in a year where the class looks to be very solid.
  6. I thought yhe predictive part of fWAR ONLY applied to pitching?
  7. The Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, Blue Jays, White Sox, Royals, Angels, Mariners, Rangers, Mets, Nats, Phils, Pirates, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, and Giants will ALL be looking for SP on some level this offseason, along with the Cubs. Most will likely be in more of a desperate "overpay" mode than we'll be. Considering the top 10 guys are Greinke, Peavy, Jackson, Sanchez, Marcum, Lohse, McCarthy, Kuroda, Haren, and Villanueva, it's going to be costly as hell. McCarthy looks like he's going to give the A's a one year deal. Kuroda is close to a lock to return to the Yanks, and I doubt the Angels let Greinke hit FA either. That would take it to 7. I see Villanueva, a Scott Baker type reclamation, a trade for a younger upside guy and a flier or two on depth non 40 man guarantees.
  8. At this point, I kind of think the Brewers put the qualifier on Marcum. Villanueva? No clue what he'll get.
  9. Ok was just trying to follow your thinking. I'm sure the dodgers will look to make a play on him. After all money doesn't seem to be an issue to them. You think they really want Hanley playing SS everyday? Yeah.
  10. Yeah, I threw them in there in case they don't like Freese going forward. Him and Wright are only months apart in age. They'll be losing Carpenters contract soon and have enough young pitching to replace him cheap. They're the least likely of any of the teams I mentioned for sure.
  11. Texas has their entire budget. Beras didn't count against it.
  12. True. But aren't Japanese players exempt from the new IFA rules completely?
  13. I thought Shark's NTC is over with now? As far as Wright goes, I think a package that includes Barney and Wood, along with 3 of Brett, Vitters, Villanueva, Vogelbach, Amaya, Torreyes, Hernandez, and Candelario would be very competitive. I figure the Red Sox, Seattle, Anaheim, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Cards would be the competition. Seattle, Arizona, and the Cards could blow us away, if they really had to have him. The Dodgers could send a nice package and take on Johan or Bay as well, which would be appealing for the Mets. Of course, we could do that too and our system is stronger than the Dodgers as well.
  14. Of course we have a package to get him. Honestly, with only one year of control, I doubt it'd be as brutal as your thinking it'll be. If we start with Baez, we could definitely get him. But I'm not sure we'd even have to.
  15. Official numbers haven't been released, but the one outline I saw had teams getting anywhere from 4.9 mill to 1.9 in 100k increments. Plus, you have the ability to trade for up to half your budget(2.4 for the Cubs if the outline I saw was correct). I doubt that a single guy gets a high budget teams full allotment, but who knows? I hope we get 3 of the top 10 or so, with our budget being what it is and round it out with some depth. Honestly, I'm a little surprised we still have some excess left over from last year(can't be rolled over). But to my knowledge, we've only spent 2.455 of our original 2.9.
  16. Zero excuses on this one. If he's bigtime, and it appears he is, he needs to be a Cub. Period. I'm glad it says "at least", we've got to be in on this guy.

By then they'll be ready to sign one. I get it. You're not a fan of what the apparent plan is. Well, I'm not a fan of any results we've had in my lifetime. So, if the smartest group we've ever had running the team(as good of an FO as any in MLB) wants to go about it this way, I'm fine with it. Because I think they're just a wee bit smarter than anyone thats here. Not to mention, they have never even put a timetable on anything. Will we make the playoffs in 2013? I'd give it about the same chance as the Lakers winning the Super Bowl. But after that? Who knows? Not me. And not you either.

If it wasn't implied, I think Delgado will be better going forward. I'm sure you're last comment was facetious anyway, but Hanson would be a FA at that point.

We aren't ready to go after better players. When Hanson was 22, he was a much better prospect than Delgado ever has been. But, he's 26 now, getting hit harder and has a noticeable loss of velo. Delgado needs a bit of work on his control, but has 2 starter upside. Is Hanson currently a better pitcher? Probably. Will he be at this time next year? My opinion is no.

5 years v. 3 years is my guess. Yeah, that's the main reason. But Hanson's mechanics were reworked over the offseason and he's been hit harder this year and has had a noticeable dip in velo too. That concerns me on him. If he's a buy low guy? Sure. But I doubt he is and I'd probably take Delgado moving forward.

I would for Delgado, probably not for Hanson. I like Barney, but while he's certainly better than a Theriot, I don't know how he'll be, when we're paying him 3, 5, 8 mill possibly in his arb years. Will the offense improve or is this as good as it gets? The D is great obviously, but I still want a bit more offensively, if he's going to be considered a key piece going forward.

Wow. Until you mentioned that, I had no clue Prado was anywhere near that.

I do think they've soured on Delgado, but I honestly have no clue how to value Barney right now.

No, but that's why Brett threw Barneys name out there. Hell, ABTY mentioned they've kicked the tires on Soriano too. After seeing the video game trade between the red Sox and Dodgers, maybe sending Soriano, Barney, and paying all but 10 mill of Sorianos contract could net Uggla and Delgado. They'd be able to move Prado to 3B, use Barney at 2B, and have extra money available to resign Bourn with.
  25. Probably so, but I doubt they'll give up Myers. I could see them trading something like Odorizzi and Cuthbert(stock way down) to the Marlins for Johnson.
