  1. I'd send any group of 5 minor leaguers they'd want(with Soler and Almora not being able to be dealt yet). In the end though, my guess is Castro, not Rizzo, would be part of the deal.
  2. I've mentioned previously the Cards WILL be good then. The Reds are likely to be taking a step back. Where we'll be better off than the Cards is in financial flexibility and hopefully with as much or more young talent at that point as well. As for the Rizzo crap and where our cupboard was.........Hendry would have signed Pujols or Fielder and used Cashner as a main piece to get Cahill or Gio or something like that, in all likelihood. Rizzo? The odds of Hendry going after him were slim and none. And Shark? Yeah, he would have been given a chance at starting. And in the second half of spring training, when he got knocked around a bit? Back tk the bullpen. We've been round and round on what was in the cupboard. It was bottom 5 in the league, period. Giving Hensry any credit for what was left is just sad.
  3. By the way, those bringing up the Cards system as how teams can/should do things: Their system will be average again next year. Miller, Rosenthal, and Taveras all likely graduate. Taveras is a guy they got lucky with, much as we did with Castro. Rosenthal was a late round find and in the new CBA, Miller wouldn't have lasted to them anyway. They spent big money on Martinez as a July 2 signing and hes really about the only one of their top guys that came conventionally. Odds are extremely against them coming up with another wave as this one. There is obviously a bunch of luck involved in building a top notch system and our FO is taking as much luck out of it as they can.
  4. If you don't like the path the FO is taking, I'll let a great man sum it up for you: "If you don't like it, learn to love it, because it's the best thing going today! Whoooooooooooooooooooooo!"
  5. I guess Campana's days are numbered. Bogusevic is a better 25th guy than him.
  6. Yeah, our FO has no allegiance to him. If we could have gotten something meaningful for him, we would have. If he was going to net us the equivalent of Eric Jokisch, then helping the guy out instead prevails.
  7. No clue what kind of money LaHair may make over there, but its pretty telling we're sending him to Japan for 950k. That basically means theres not a single team in MLB would even give a top 30ish type prospect for him. That would mean more to the org than a tad under a million bucks. I'll totally admit I had his value pegged wrongly. In the end, teams evidently see him as another Jake Fox type and nothing more.
  8. Out of the DFA'd guys, Valencia, LaPorta, and Cory Wade are somewhat interesting to me. Wade being the most interesting of the group. Could be a cheap solid reliever.
  9. I honestly wouldn't mind LaPorta as a backup 1B/LF. See if he can regain SOMETHING.
  10. Best guys available from what I can see(haven't looked hard): P JC Sulbaran, Kyle Lobstein OF Marc Krauss, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Destin Hood. Krauss is the guy I want, I think.
  11. Well, we need lefties and his FB sits low 90's supposedly. We have none of those guys. Plus, we still get a PTBNL. Still love it.
  12. Parks like Brigham's stuff better actually. Of course, he's hurt.
  13. He was the 6th overall pick in the draft a couple years ago. Arizona voided his signing because of shoulder issues. Texas signed him for 450k or so. We were interested too. He went 14-1 with a sub 3.50 ERA in AA this year. Texas League too, complete hitters paradise.
  14. Evidentky, that exactly what happened. This is a reworked Geo trade. Cool.
  15. Seriously, why would Texas do that? Was Brigham hurt and Texas knew it when they traded him to us? I mean, this makes no sense. Unless Loux's arm is falling off again.
  16. So with the Brigham trade, we're at 40. Gotta think we'll see Coleman and a few others gone soon. LaHair? Wow. Hard to believe we couldn't move him at all.
  17. Kuroda stays put, 15 mill, plus incentives. LaPorta got DFA'd today, for what its worth.
  18. They just protected him.
  19. JC Sulbaran and Marc Krauss so far are my favorites as to who's been left unprotected.
  20. In the scrap heap/possibly take a flyer file, this likely means Hochevar gets nontendered.
  21. Theo thinks the next market inneficiency is curbing pitching injuries. AA evidently thinks its finding managers to beat the [expletive] out of the players.
  22. Guthrie just got 3 years from KC, money unknown yet.
  23. If Villanueva is left off, I can't imagine a team like Houston or Miami not taking him, since they az.re clearly, completely not concerned at all with 2013. Oh, and the roster is at 39 currently. My guess is Coleman, Clevenger, Stewart, and Gutierrez get dropped and Villanueva, Watkins, McNutt, and Struck get kept.
  24. If I remember correctly, they had an agreement with Whitson, then he changed his mind and wanted more money the last day.
