  1. That's impossible to answer. I don't want him given away for nothing. It depends on what sort of value you get in return. True. But you basically answered anyway. I doubt we're giving anyone away and I wouldn't dump Marmol for pure scraps either.
  2. Kaplan says we're still looking for SP and a RF, heading to Nashville. 3B tough to fill. DeJesus moving to CF I guess. Bat makes more sense there anyway and if hes sealt midseason, Jackson gets another audition, I suppose.
  3. I think the Yanks, Orioles, Rays, Braves, and Phils would all have an interest. It makes no difference to me if we pay the entire contract or not, but theres no reason at all to deal him unless we get something solid in return.
  4. Awesome. Honestly, its less money than I had thought he'd get, for some reason. The question now, is whether to keep Marmol or not? I think I'd trade him and sign another bullpen arm or two.
  5. Sickels left a teaser, that's pretty glowing, on our system. He has us with a B+, that could move to an A-, 2 B's, 5 B-'s, and 10 C+'s. This is without doing anyone from A through C, H, or M yet. Those grades basically don't include Alcantara, Amaya, Baez, Almora, Hernandez, Candelario, Maples, and Blackburn. Hell, doesn't include Cabrera, Carreno, Bruno, Ha, Hendricks, or Martin either, who could all wind up as C+'s possibly.
  6. Gammons tweeted something moronic this morning, insinuating the Reds won't part with Didi Gregorius in an Upton deal right now. Hell, Alcantara is as good or better than he is.
  7. If you added Bourn, McCarthy, Reynolds, and a relatively solid bullpen arm or two, it'd give 2013 some interesting possibilities. With Bourn being the only longterm commitment.

    NFL Week 13

Reports are saying Jovan Belcher killed his GF, then went to facility and killed himself.

    NFL Week 13

Glazer reported a few minutes ago a Chiefs player and another person had been shot at their facility this morning. Then, a few minutes later King RT's a guy saying player killed GF and then himself. Wow.
  10. Wow, I thought Sheff was a contact machine, didn't remember him walking as much as he did.
  11. I'm a little surprised at how that worked. I thought the renewal deadline was in like January or something. Yeah, I'm not sure they HAD to be moved today or not. Texas NT'd Brigham, by the way. His shoulder must be messed up pretty bad. Oh and Giants NT'd Wilson, for the biggest name winner, if it hasn't been mentioned yet.
  12. Personally, I won't count Fujikawa as I would the rest of the IFA, because of his age. OTOH, if either Diaz or Alvarez are good, they become must gets, with no excuses.
  13. While I agree it needs its own thread, I think we're all sick of talking about it. Neither side is going to ever convince the other. It's probably the only thing we can agree on. As for the Cards, you're right, they weren't typically big overslotters. But Miller fell to them because of his demands and then they met them. They spent big on Martinez in IFA as well. They've certainly had a great player development system in place though. But it comes and goes in cycles for everyone.
  14. I'll be shocked if all 3 of Baez, Soler, and Almora are still with the Cubs organization entering 2015. In fact, I figure its more likely than not, only one of them will be.
  15. OK, now I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not. No, its not sarcasm. Who has? The only 3 I can come up with are the Giants, Cards, and Braves, and in each case, they still had some very high picks they hit on, and/or used overslotting or bigtime money in IFA to help out. I don't think there's a way to get good and stay really good forever without a gigantic payroll and I truly don't see that coming from the Ricketts. I DO think the tone may change from 2015 to 2014, with the FO believing they can ride their system for a 10 year run.
  16. No organization is going to consistently draft well from the middle to back of the 1st. Especially without the ability to overslot. You know that.
  17. If I'm trying to comp the big 3 out, I'll go with Sheffield for Baez, with more K's, Beltran with 20/20 instead of 30/30 potential, but a better hit tool for Almora, and Dye seems like a solid comp for Soler. Personally, I've got them, followed by Vizcaino, in that order. As far as Soler's ETA, I can see him starting in Kane County and if he tears it up, possibly skipping to Tennesse around midseason. At any rate, if he progresses as he should, I think he'll see the majors before Baez, by a bit.
  18. Sickels mentioned in his comments that Brett is a B- for him and Vogelbach is a very strong B and seems like he wants to go B+ on him.
  19. Whether I want the rebuild or not, I get excited to see us connected to the bigger names. Bourn is a monster on the basepaths, great defensively, and a bigtime makeup guy. If the FO truly wants him(I obviously have doubts), I'm all for it, because they must see something in him they didn't in Upton, who they've seen quite a bit obviously.
  20. As bad as he is defensively, he instantly becomes an excellent 3B option for us, with who's available, if we can't deal for Chisenhall.
  21. I hope we keep Chapman and Putnam somehow. But moving them off the 40 man gives us solid flexibility.
