  1. Just curious, are you DavidH over there?
  2. We may be in for a nasty case of the dual fronts.
  3. I think Mooney now gives us a second competent writer, to go along with Bruce. I'll add Brett in, as the best blogger, by a country mile, so technically we have 3.
  4. ESPNChicago now has a story up on Cubs showing interest in Bourn. Personally, I think its an odd fit, Upton made more sense to me, but these guys know more about this [expletive], so I trust them, if they target him. Marlin's the real deal though.
  5. With our payroll situation, I wouldn't mind Hamilton, under certain circumstances. I'd go 3/90, with our situation. He'd bring people to the ballpark and if he had a typical season for him, he'd be extremely attractive to teams in year 2 and 3 of the deal, especially if we ate some cash. No clue what kind of WAR to prospect ratio, plus cash sent over, would equate out. But, if you kept him for a year, got 5-6 WAR out of him, traded him and half the remaining cash for 2-3 top 50ish types, is it worth the investment? I'm asking, because rolling those dice is fine, but I wouldn't do it for long, with the distractions around Wrigley. Plus, we could then put the saved money back to use as well.
  6. Andres Torres got NT'd, as expected.
  7. Hannahan got NT'd. Granted, he's shitty, but he's slightly less shitty than most other FA options.
  8. With Garza due to make 10 mill +, I'm hoping we're not flirting with NTing him, because of salary and potential lack of health.
  9. With the sickening glut of young pithing the A's have, there are a lot of options there, especially with two of the best FO's in baseball on the job. Brett Anderson or Brad Peacock could be targets. Barney alone isn't going to land either, but he'd be a good start. Brad Peacock in a straight up deal for Darwin Barney would make me question the sanity of our FO. If thats the return, Darwin's going no where.
  10. Either Marlin or ABTY one has mentioned previously that Beane really likes Barney at SS.
  11. Diaz turns 23 on January 8th and evidently will wait until after then to sign, to skip the IFA crap. Sanchez mentioned he's heard the "usual suspects" have already shown interest in these two.
  12. Whippersnappers. Or something.
  13. I think we better get as much as we possibly can in 2014 when WGN runs out. Whether its thru Comcast, Ricketts buys out Comcast, or whatever, I seriously doubt the bubble will be as good 5 years later.
  14. Next offseason, this seems much more likely. On both ends. Stanton will hit arb, probably get 7-8 mill. Baez should be finishing his season in AA and its not a stretch to say he could easily be a top 10 prospect. Almora is likely finishing the year in A+ himself and could easily be considered a top 25 guy in his own right by then. Add in Vogelbach, who is probably even money to be a top 100 guy next year at this time as well, not sure who'd bother trying to top that kind of offer. Hell, we possibly could get away with Baez, Vogelbach, and some others, not named Soler or Almora by then.
  15. Diaz is a 22 year old SS, Alvarez a 24 year old OF who can play all 3 positions. Both alpear to be cleared within the week, gaining residency in Mexico. Can't link from my cell, article on MLB.com. I hope Alvarez is good, he won't count against the IFA budget and could fill an OF spot soon, maybe even immediately.
  16. Even Cameron, the author of that article though, is liking what we're doing though. Hopefully someone asks Theo to define the term, so there's no more guessing on it. Personally, I like both SP moves and feel we're not done. My guess is we get one of Marcum, Liriano, or McCarthy and get Keppinger for 3B. That leaves CF or RF, depending on where they play DeJesus. We'll head into 2013 with another team that looks like a mid 70s win team, in all likelihood. But no contracts that kill us and hopefully a few more young additions that are Rizzo-esque, in that they may be ready midseason or so.
  17. You're right, all plans must start succeeding and show immediate results from day one with no time to allowed for adjustments and a foundation to be built all while changing an entires organizations paradigm from the top down. Well, yes. It's a results-oriented business. If they didn't think they could operate on parallel fronts, then someone else should have been hired. who says this isn't parallel fronts though? They're not trotting out the Casey Coleman's of the organization for Opening Day. They're trying to put competent major leaguers with upside out there. If things break right, you never know what can happen. You posted a Dave Cameron article yesterday that you loved, supoosedly because you took it to mean we're not doing what he said a team should do. Yet, earlier today, he posted on Twitter that Theo knows exactly what he's doing and loves the Baker/Feldman signings. You're intentionally being negative and grasping for things that aren't being said obviously.
  18. Good move. My guess is they'll still add a McCarthy type as well. Or Liriano, especially if Wood gets dealt.
  19. He broke it within the last week or so.
  20. That may be what Tampa or Boston are asking for, no way Myers goes for something less than a true ace, in my opinion. Not to mention, at this exact point, I actually think Shark has at least as much value as Shields and more than Lester.
  21. The request was for a simple, realistic scenario that put the team in contention last year. Not for a scenario that guaranteed we'd be better off than we were. OK, so you're basically admitting our FO made the right choice.
  22. If I were you, I think I'd start preparing for another 90+ loss season early.
  23. A scenario was given. What exactly did THAT accomplish? You missed the playoffs, have two more years of Aramis, don't have the minor leaguers I mentioned and worsened your draft status and IFA budget very considerably. If you think Aramis has that kind of trade value, more power to you.
  24. Re-sign Ramirez Sign a couple of useful veteran relief pitchers to get the bullpen to average Put the best players on the roster from day one (see ya, Clevenger, Mather, Volstad). That'll get you to.500 right there, and you can still do the Rizzo trade and the Marshall trade and sign Soler and draft Almora. Who are these veteran relievers? And again, if those things happened, congrats you've won half your games, don't have Pierce Johnson, Arodys Vizcaino, Christian Villanueva, went from picking 2nd in this draft and IFA budget to probably in the 15-18 range, missed the playoffs, and have two seasons of Aramis Ramirez to show for it moving forward.
  25. It might be cheaper than you think. Given his reaction to the recent fire sale, everybody knows that the Marlins have no real ability to extend Stanton. Sure, they can keep him around a couple season to extract some merchandise sales, but it's just a matter of time until they're forced to trade him. All you have to do is outbid the competitors for the right to pay him as he begins to get expensive. While true, I figure the Marlins would be looking for young major leaguers or at least guys that are very close. Hell, Selig may force something like that on them, if they deal him, since he's supposedly pretty pissy about their selloff. At any rate, we'd be in much better shape on this next year at this time. Baez and Soler could each have half a season of AA under their belt by then. Baez is from Florida, they'd have Soler for the Cuban contingent. Almora and Vogelbach are both Florida kids too. A package of 2-3 of that group at this time next year could be extremely hard for other teams to beat.
