  1. The guy was evidently talking out of his ass, offered an opinion, wasn't clear on whether he knew something or it was an opinion. Tweeting the retraction SHOULD be an embarassment to him, for starting something in the first place. Brett and anyone else writing about it is what they're supposed to do.

Well, then I want to wish everyone a Happy DFA And People Overreacting To Mediocre Prospects Being Left Vulnerable To Rule 5 Day tomorrow. VILLANUEVA IS GETTING KEPT. :P

Oh well, Levine just [expletive] all over his own rumor, as he just tweeted Cubs not in discussions involving movement of any young players.

Levine keeps mentioning we've talked to Cleveland about Chisenhall for a year now. If what has been mentioned about teams thinking Vitters WILL hit, just don't know his position, it makes a bit of sense. Cleveland is rebuilding, gain extra years of control, maybe add a solid younger prospect to it for them. Save them a bit of money too......I don't know. I just think signing Camp right now is a tad odd, considering the 40 man decisions we've got to make tomorrow. Couple that with the Levine rumor and our needs, I'm grasping......

I mentioned it in Transactions, but if the supposed big young player swap is with Cleveland, add Chisenhall, Masterson, and Brantley to our roster, its got potential, and youth as well.
  6. Who are u talking about here? Bowden, I'm assuming. And I agree, if my assumption is correct.
  7. I could see some sort of Jackson/Vitters/Wood/Dolis/Candelario for Chisenhall/Masterson/Brantley swap. We'd fill 3B, a SP, and CF in one move. Could sign Liriano, a RP or 2 and likely be done. Maybe another young player type swap to help with pitching.
  8. The timing of this is very interesting to me. Our 40 man is now at 39. Have to add whoever we're adding by tomorrow. Personally, I think Villanueva, Watkins, and McNutt are locks. Yeah, we can drop Clevenger, Stewart, Coleman, and a Putnam or Gutierrez, maybe Rusin. But hopefully this means Levine wasn't talking out of his ass and we actually DO have a major trade of young players on the horizon.
  9. Marmol flat out sucked his first go round in the majors too. I honestly do think one of Dolis or Cabrera becomes a solid contributor.
  10. Why should you be able to get 2 good pitchers out of a group of 3 bad ones? Because one was once a top 100ish type prospect that actually pitched fairly well for us last year and the other two have excellent stuff, but are still raw?
  11. Levine said on Talkin' Baseball he expects the Cubs to do a big young players for young players swap.
  12. I think we're going back to the grill again, with Stewart.
  13. that's horribly embarrassing for every other team if true. but i doubt it is. Why the hell weren't the Cubs in on this? Like they have money to spend on other players? I know OF is probably not the Cubs biggest need, but collecting assets is. Melky at that price is an asset, just like Scott Baker. We may have been. No teams were connected to Melky. But my guess is he wanted to play for a team competing immediately. He may have wanted to steer clear of major markets. No clue, but a great deal for AA, nonetheless.
  14. This is about protecting a possible asset. If Castillo needs a few days off or something, Navarro may not kill us. He's an upgrade from what we had. If you think 1.75 mill is going to stop us from acquiring the nonexistant 3B thats available, a single SP or multiple RP, you're just wrong. Our payroll AFTER arb cases and autorenewals is around 70 million right now. We'll add whatever we want that fits with what they want. Right now, they acquired a decent, relatively young backup C on a one year deal. He's better than Clevenger, likely a better one year option than anyone else out there. Overanalyzing or bitching about this move? Get real. It affects nothing else we're going to do. And as far as spending too much on multiple guys like this? Where? We've got no openings, unless we want another Reed Johnson, instead of Campana. And you brought up RP, so if they spend on a couple of relievers, they don't even count in this discussion.
  15. My honest guess is it'd cost Barney, which would negate some of the positives you'd be acquiring with him.
  16. Padilla. Geez, he also voted Braun first.
  17. What Cubs writer put Hunter Pence in his top 10? Law and Neyer are making fun of it.
  18. Those were the "other options" only if you insisted on wasting a roster spot on a proven veteran backup catcher. It's an upgrade from Clevenger, who'll be derostered now, in all likelihood. Unless you wanted Castillo to play 162, you need a backup.
  19. Gerald Laird got 2 years from the Braves today, money unknown yet. The other options were Shoppach, Torrealba, Barajas, Olivo, Blanco, and Snyder. Shoppach likely gets multiple years and Navarro is younger and better than the rest. They paid up for the possible upside, if Castillo doesn't work out. I see nothing wrong with it at all, the more I look at it.
  20. 1.75 mill, per Heyman. Guess its a major league deal after all.
  21. My guess is this is a minor league deal, so they can take Clevenger off the 40 man for now and they'll compete for an eventual roster spot. The extra 40 man spot is likely more important than either at this exact point.
  22. Cool. Thanks Rob. I asked because earlier today I saw Jorge Angure bring up Profar for Stanton and asked who'd say no? I'm not sure either team would say no to that. Baez plus Jackson? Fairly close in value to Profar, I'd think.
  23. Rob, just curious, what would you part with, for Stanton?
  24. This isn't close for me. I'd take Baez 100 times out of 100.
