I know I'm docking him 10 spots or so because of the injury. If not for that concern, I'd have him higher than any pitcher in our system not named Vizcaino, Paniagua, or Johnson.
No order here, but I definitely have Szczur, Alcantara, Amaya, Hernandez, Torreyes, Cabrera, Blackburn, and Underwood ahead of Loux. A few others, like Wells, Martin, and Watkins are possible too.
Much higher upside for Underwood. Blackburn is more polished, upside of a mid rotation type. Higher chance of success. Underwood has TOR upside, but is much more volatile of a prospect. Control issues, velo inconsistency, due to lack of consistent delivery. Both are good makeup guys and are very coachable.
Red Sox are close to acquiring Hanrahan. On a side note, I think Boras completely misjudged market on Soriano. He should have stayed in New York. Can't see any team giving up 1st for him, especially with other options out there.
If they trade Kubel, I think it definitely helps Sori's market. Even moreso if they deal him to Seattle or some other west coast team Sori wouldn't accept a trade to. Honestly though, its going to be really tough to replace Soriano's power in the middle of the lineup, so I'm thinking he starts the season with us, since we've got at least a punchers chance right now. DeJesus is the OF I could see being dealt. Atlanta, KC, or Seattle all seem like good fits for him.
Right or wrong, the fact Struck was left off the 40 man, then was passed over by every team in the Rule 5, affects my thinking on him. Loux? He's somewhere in the 20-25 range for me. But that speaks to the depth of our system. I look at it like this: Sickels averages about 20 guys per team that he gives C+ or higher grades. Making a top 600, in a roundabout way. We had 29 and if Peralta gets returned, it'd give us 30.
Damn, Rosario got claimed by the very last team that could have. He'd already passed thru the entire AL recently and based on records, the Giants winning the WS would have been last.
Well, I obviously don't see makeup as an either/or thing, but if you've got two guys rated closely, it can certainly help to be the determining factor.
That's entirely possible. It's part of why I'm just kind of whining rather than being really pissed off. It's just kind of odd to me since Upton seems like much more a "Theo type of player" than Bourn. My guess is the difference in makeup possibly? Bourn is widely viewed as a plus makeup type, while Upton is iffy.
Yeah, I think it's possible they did tank a season. But again, who was out there to really get that made sense(other than Darvish and Cespedes, who they made plays for). The high pick may very well land them a guy that slots into the top or middle of the rotation very soon and its evidently a very strong IFA class, so that should have a nice payoff as well. Either way, it wasn't likely we'd have made the playoffs in 2012 and the tanking could help lead to getting a Price or Felix and/or a Stanton or Upton by next year at this time. I'm just excited it appears the vision is coming in a year earlier than I was thinking it would.
