  1. Kyle Alert: Someone got a gritty double. Soler with a 4 pitch walk.
  2. Sveum said they'll see a solid amount of at bats this spring. My guess is they stick around til the middle of March.
  3. Brett doubled and scored on a McDonald hit, in his first AB.
  4. You've got a 5 mill TPE, all of your own picks, the Charlotte pick, Butler, Mirotic, and Teague to make a deal with over the offseason. Along with one of Boozer, Deng, or Noah as a solid additional piece. When something worth getting is available, I think we're armed and ready to go get it.
  5. Yeah, you kind of have to look at Villanueva and even Wood or Feldman as bullpen contributors this year. At any rate, I think its much improved over last year.
  6. Manaea went 6, 1 hit, 2 walks and 10 K's today. Pitched at 90-94 with a sharp slider.
  7. I was just looking at Kershaw objectively. I think he's a horse. Technically, in my eyes, I can question his health. Not like I would Garza, by any stretch, but a little. Yes, if you don't question Kershaw(as Goony said, they have 2) but 6 questions after that. Which is why its great to have numbers. As for Harang being the Cubs ace? He could also not be in our top 5. I'm a big believer in Shark, at this point. I'll be disappointed if he comes in under a 4 WAR season.
  8. The Dodgers only have Greinke. Even Kershaw is coming off a leg injury. Harang and Capuano are injury-prone. Billingsley is coming off elbow issues, Beckett has a chronically bad back, Lilly is still injured(I think) and Ryu is an unknown. That being said, I fully expect their staff to be very solid to potentially excellent. I agree with TT, you can find lots of question marks in most teams rotations.
  9. I'll bring up Kyle Hendricks again to be on the list.
  10. There was nothing to go get. Hell, we don't even know if Rose comes back this year. I doubt very seriously they'd beat Miami if he did. I'd rather put off the tax as long as possible, save every asset we can, and make one big deal over the offseason. And I HOPE that Reggie is speaking for Derrick. Another star is needed.
  11. True, but 13 pitchers? Has a team ever started a season with that configuration? Unless I'm mistaken, its very rare for a team to wind up 13/12. And when it happens, its usually due to an overworked pen and doesn't last very long. Lillibridge or Maysonet probably gets the 25th man spot, unless Clevenger looks improved and can still play IF at some level.
  12. The bar is set soooooooo low for Stewart, in our eyes, a 2 WAR season would be utterly fantastic.
  13. Nice. What Twitter are you following this all on? I didn't see a lot of that on Meghan's feed. It was Cubsden(John Arguello) retweeting some dude named Eric Pauley, who I've got no clue, as to who he is.
  14. Baez smoked a ball to SS, Starlin made a diving stop and got Soler at 2nd is how Javy's 2nd AB went. Schierholtz and Bogusevic have HR's, by the way.
  15. I'll predict Brett struggles in ST with the new swing, but shows serious improvement in AAA. Watkins is the youngster that turns heads for us in ST and tests the whole "full year in AAA" thing.
  16. You just did this to give yourself a reason to write Matherbridge, didn't you? At any rate, the only change I'll make is Raley over Wade, with Dolis making the team as well. Marmol gets dealt. Vizcaino starts on 60 day DL.
  17. I'm a bit surprised Javy isn't a 70 power-wise.
  18. Not to mention, Perez was making 2.5 mill a year.
  19. Actually, either Sappelt or Hairston will likely platoon in CF, with the other one in RF. We're kind of set up in a way the 25th guy is even less important than most. I guess it could have been optimal to look at as good of a pinch hitter as possible, for the role.
  20. At any rate, we're not even a bad team. Which I guess is why Kyle is milking Lillibridge here, trying to inch our way into contention. Personally, if Castillo plays decently, Castro and Rizzo advance a bit, 3B isn't bottom 10% in MLB, and we get 60 starts out of Shark, Garza, and E-Jax(thru July)we'll be buyers, in my opinion.
  21. Quotes from Starlin today: "We have 4 good starters" and asked how winning would elevate his game, he responds "be more of a superstar than I am".
  22. I may be imagining things, but I could have sworn this came out awhile ago. You're right. Not sure if it ever came up here, but Muskat mentioned it back in December. And we are losing a DSL team, to put one in the VSL.
  23. I'm anxiously waiting for the day Fangraphs breaks down the average WAR of the 25th man. So we can complain about losing 3/10 of a WAR out of the spot.
  24. Jackson is under consideration for Opening Day as well.
  25. We all may disagree on [expletive] here, but if you happened to walk up on someone from here that had Cubs gear on and started a conversation, you'd at least walk away thinking the guy knows his [expletive], for the most part. We're in the vast minority though. Most fans are casual anyway, which puts them much more likely to be a meatball. They probably let Kaplan, Sullivan, etc help form their opinions for them. I'm not sure how you guys IN Chicago can talk to the typical Cub fan(what I think of anyway) without punching the dude in the nuts after about two sentences.
