  1. Derrick talks again. Says he still can't dunk. I thought it was reported over a month ago he was dunking?
  2. Greinke got 6/147. And he's no Felix.
  3. From the WTF files: Didi Gregorius has a UCL issue that will keep him out at the start of the year. Kevin Towers said today they didn't give him a physical, prior to trading for him.
  4. Derrick drops next year on everyone.......
  5. http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4875321332860078&pid=1.7&w=94&h=140&c=7&rs=1 Their first big move of the offseason Indians are still a ? filled team though. First big move of the offseason? I'd say Nick Swisher counts as one. So was swapping Choo essentially for Bauer.
  6. John Henry said something to the effect that the Red Sox may not be done adding earkier today. I could see Lohse ending up there, especially since it'd just cost them a 2nd this year.
  7. I pretty much want to keep Garza at this point longterm. But, if Cleveland offered us Bauer+ for him(us paying some salary) I'd think really hard about it. They seem to be in "go for it" mode and they need SP.
  8. Solid deal for the Indians. Gain Swisher and Bourn, lose 2nd and 3rd rounders. Solidly in contention in Central.
  9. Olney just said we're hanging around on the fringes of Bourn.
  10. While Felix is the name being talked about here, this actual discussion is more likely to become relevant talking about David Price next offseason. We'll have a choice to make between giing after him or Stanton. My honest guess is Price come quite a bit cheaper, in terms of what we'd have to give up. Considering we could trade for him, keep Garza, and have Shark and E-Jax in place, it'd leave us plenty of money to spend on hitting. With Castro, Rizzo, and hopefully Castillo entrenched as longterm answers. Tim, no one's debating whether or not its a better idea to take a pitcher over a hitter. It's not. But THIS team is much better equipped to take the chance on an ace than most are. Due to Castro and Rizzo and the strength of our hitting in the lower levels(even after taking into account it could take Baez and Almora to get a Price). At any rate, its not stupidly spending money at a problem. Its filling a gigantic hole that most teams have, while still leaving money to spend elsewhere as well.
  11. If we win a World Series and our payroll is higher than 12.5 mill, I'll feel we bought us a championship.......Seriously though: Tim, while it may be safer to spend big on hitters, a team with plenty of financial resources, should have no issue at all giving out a longterm contract to a true staff ace. Worst case scenario is we operate on 20 mill less payroll. Which can be taken care of by having cheap, cost controlled guys anyway. Best case scenario is you get a perennial CY Young contender, something less than a third of MLB has.
  12. You signing him after its found out that he had his arm amputated?? Arm amputee surgery is the new Tommy John.
  13. Yeah Tim. And he's a FA in 2 years. You letting him walk?
  14. The players probably like goofy [expletive] like this. It's a break, something different, thats all. Sveum has gotten rave reviews for how he's handled the clubhouse, did as good a job with on-field stuff as we've had in a very long time, helps recruiting with FA evidently, and is on the same page with the FO, who certainly aren't the types to give up outs. The bunting contest is a non-issue.
  15. Our guys have the right method. Draft pitching, pitching, and more pitching. At some point, I'm fairly confident they'll hit on an ace. But there are so few of those types in baseball, the potential reward outweighs the risk for me. We can afford to take the risk. 20 mill of dead payroll should never keep us from fielding a really good team, once the pipeline of minor leaguers has been filled.
  16. Craig, how does Vogelbach look at 232? Any concern it'll affect his power?
  17. I take pride in the fact we were dead last in bunts last year.
  18. Scott, Arias, and McNeil for me.
  19. This makes me potentially happy. No extension means we could still conceivably trade for him next year. Too few of this type of pitcher, take the chance when you can. Have trust in your medical staff. My guess is he still gets the extension though, once its sorted out.
  20. Tim, here's a hypothetical for you: 6 years from now, we're contending every year. Arodys Vizcaino has posted 3 straight 5 WAR seasons for us and is about to become a FA. Not a single guy as good as him on the FA market. Trade market isn't all that appealing either. He's looking for(and will get it elsewhere) 6-150. We don't have a bunch of holes currently in the lineup, but need SP. Are you keeping him?
  21. Evidently Theo and Jed will have a play-in match for the last spot in the bunting tournament. Jed was a college 2B, wasn't he?
  22. I seriously doubt it. Can't see him sticking in Miami much longer than 2013. Whoever trades for him will do their damndest to buy out some FA years. Which is what Seattle did already. Yeah, which keeps him from hitting the market at 26. My point is true impact guys aren't hitting the open market that early anymore. Which is why it wasn't a bad move for Seattle to go ahead and spend that money on Felix. Tim says its better to spend it on hitting(I'm not arguing that) but I'm saying spending on a 26 year old Felix versus spending more on a 31 year old Cano is no different. The truly elite pitchers-I'd hold onto them.
  23. Andrus, too. True, he'll hit the market. But is he a difference making hitter? How much money do you give him as a FA? He's not a guy I'd want to invest 100 mill in. Someone will but it'd be as much about the glove as his bat.
  24. I seriously doubt it. Can't see him sticking in Miami much longer than 2013. Whoever trades for him will do their damndest to buy out some FA years.
  25. To CCP's point, why now? You've got him for two more years. Are you that afraid that he's going to cost significantly more than 5/$137 to retain a couple years from now? And to answer the final question in your post: an elite hitter. Why now? Probably a now or never situation honestly. He'd likely wait and test the market if you didn't do it now. As for a hitter? Sure, in a perfect world, they are better investments. But let me know the next time you get a 26 year hitting the market. Personally, I'll take my shot on Felix right now than giving Cano 8 to 10 years at 25 per. I'll also take Felix over the Fielder contract from last year.
