  1. Rotoworld seems to think so. They've got us signing Albert at 5/37, Wes Welker at 3/27, and franchising Melton. If that's a possibility, sign me the hell up.
  2. To me, if he can keep a K rate at 25%, he's a hell of an asset for us. And that would be a remarkable feat for him to accomplish.
  3. Yeah, the time to deal Sori is when he's putting up an .800+ OPS at midseason, if we're out of it. Right now, I want to see what this team is capable of.
  4. If there's ever a guy that'll need an adjustment period from the minors to MLB, it's probably Lake. Personally, I hope he rakes in AAA and we trade him.
  5. I went Reed, Contreras, and Raley. Reed is throwing very hard and may profile as a back end of the pen guy. Contreras has legit upside and is our best C prospect. I took Raley 3rd, because he's already hit the majors. My guess is he has a Russell type transformation into a solid pen arm. All the other SP also fall into the 5th starter-at best category anyway. So I'll take the one that our FO put in the majors and then thought highly enough of, to keep on the 40 man in an offseason that saw quite a few DFA's.
  6. With Austin running a 4.25, I doubt he'll be there at 20, much less in the 2nd round.
  7. Lake K'd twice, but a monster homer his 3rd time up. 11-2 final, Cubs win.
  8. Rodon went 7 hitless, walked 1, K'd 14.
  9. Soler K'd in 1st at bat, doubled hard down line in his 2nd. Baez fouled out and has a sharp single.
  10. Brett with 2 triples in two at bats.
  11. If he turns this around, it does quite a bit to our longterm prospects.
  12. Wood very shaky in 1st, gives up 2. Valbuena hits a homer though, 2-1 Angels. Stewart's quad likely is deciding its not that hurt.
  13. So, is adding a LT thru FA or the 1st round enough for us to have a decent O-Line? Is Carimi or Webb solid enough at RT, with the other moving inside, enough upgrading? Or do we also need to draft or sign a starting caliber guard as well? We don't have a TON of money to spend and we need at least a MLB and maybe a TE and a deep threat as well. Not counting Melton, of course. I guess I hope we get Melton locked in longterm and restructure Peppers and Tillman, to give us some cash to address these things. I think I'm in favor of keeping Urlacher, only due to the other holes, if he comes back rather cheaply.
  14. Mild to moderate quad strains for Stewart AND Vitters. Both out 10-14 days. I'd say Valbuena now looks like he's the current leader for Opening Day 3B.
  15. Sveum called Cabrera out today about that too. He was wild in winter ball as well.
  16. Correction: Jagielo only hit one homer, a 2 run shot. Came off Tony Rizzoti, in a 2-1 Notre Dame win. Rizzoti went 6, gave up 4 hits, 2 walks, and K'd 6.
  17. Ziomek was 88-92 with his FB today. Eric Jagielo(Notre Dame) has certainly started his junior year off right. He was 6-11 with 2 HR and a double last weekend and has hit homers in his first 2 AB tonight. Heard his defense at 3B is shaky, but if he hits like this, he'll rocket up boards. Had a really solid Cape this summer too. Hit .295 with 13 homers in 45 games.
  18. Hairston can't be traded yet. I think its sometime in June, isn't it? At any rate, I think he's here well into 2014. The platoon of Schierholtz/Hairston can be very productive for the next 2 years, before Soler hits the majors for good in 2015.
  19. Few odds and ends: Trevor Williams K'd 8 in 7 shutout innings, Ziomek K'd 11 in 7 innings, and Crawford is sitting 89-92 early in Florida's game.
  20. Sori has basically been a solid FA signing. Been worth just about equal to what he's made to this point. Never thought we'd be able to say that back when we signed him. Hell, if McKay had been here earlier and he had been using a lighter bat, who knows? Anyway, whether those two things have truly helped or not, I'm thinking they did. It's spring and he'll have another .800 OPS this year.
  21. Watkins, Sappelt, Rizzo, Hairston, Valbuena, Castillo, Jackson, Lillibridge, and McDonald is the first ST lineup for tomorrow.
  22. Maybe a sign of how they approach young pitching? No 16 year olds out of the group. Love the projectability though. Dislan is 6'4 at 17, Hernandez is 6'5 at 18, DeLa Cruz is 6'4 at 17 and already hits 93 after just converting a year ago. Morel is 6'6 and a lefty that hits 89 at 18. Its great to see the "types" they're signing, all projectability-all the time.
  23. Stanek wasn't very good today, only going 3 and throwing 76 pitches.
  24. I'm sold. New swing=success. Can't help it. I'm legit excited. Damnit to spring and a new season.
