  1. I think Edwards is a bit under the weather, according to his Twitter. Hope he's feeling good by tonight.
  2. Things can really start to happen next year, if things go the way we think they will. Javy could see some time in the majors next year, Bryant and Soler could conceivably begin 2014 in AA, Alcantara likely starts in Iowa, with a major league audition later in the year and its plausible that Almora sees AA by midseason as well. I know the entire group won't work out, but I kind of see each of ty hem getting a chance here, before any are dealt.
  3. My guess is Almora, Soler, Alcantara, Villanueva, Zych, Rosscup, and Neil Ramirez, if he's the PTBNL and he's healthy.
  4. Hoyer mentioned adding catchers as a huge priority at this point. I could see both a HS and college C drafted early next year, to go with pitching.
  5. For a bad team, there sure is a lot I'd like to stand pat on. I'm kind of hoping we focus our money on like 2 or 3 higher-impact signings. Give me Tanaka, a solid bullpen arm, and some sort of stopgap OFer, like Chris Young maybe, and call it an offseason.
  6. I think Candelario deserves it as well, making me wonder if Tennessee isn't a legit option for Bryant.
  7. Well, that was a helluva game. We'll see plenty of that with Javy.
  8. It'll be interesting to see where Bryant and Candelario start next year at. More likely scenario: Bryant in KC, Candelario in Daytona or the opposite? Or possibly Bryant in Tennessee and Candelario in Daytona?
  9. Damn, I forgot them, plus Lim as well.
  10. Kane County currently in a skunk delay. Yes, you read that right.
  11. With Shark, Wood, and E-Jax penciled in as SP, and having Villanueva, Rusin, Arrieta, Grimm, and Hendricks competing for jobs, how many SP do we need to add? I say just 1. Then, you have Strop, Russell, and Parker set in the pen, in my mind, with 3 or 4 of the losers from the 5th SP battle, plus Cabrera, Rosscup, Rivero, and holdovers Dolis, Sanchez, Bowden, Rondon, Raley, and others we've claimed and taken off the 40 man.....One bullpen addition as well or two, at the most?
  12. Bryant with a 2B, 13 game hit streak.
  13. 5 Ks in 26 batters faced is at least a tiny bit encouraging. I'm really beginning to think I've been underrating him and he deserves a slightly inside-ish track on a job next year. I'll agree with that, as long as you mean 1 of our 12 and not 1 of our 5.
  14. I don't think they were trying to go over the top. Texas or whoever made us up our offer to Jimenez, is my guess. And we wanted him bad enough to do it, then added Tseng on top of it for more potential impact. In the end, if you would have told me we would get 5 guys squarely inside the top 30 IFA prospects over a 2 year period, including two elite guys, ranked first and second, I'd have been satisfied. We just did it in one year and we may not even be done, for all we know. Take the quantity approach next year or trade off the space. Either way, we can make it work.
  15. Rios for a PTBNL(likely Leury Garcia). Not a fan of Garcia myself, but he'd probably be a top 5 prospect for the White Sox.
  16. Technically, isn't that 800k basically doubled because of where we are with the IFA budget? I'm still thinking Concepcion was hurt horribly by the mono and just never recovered. He was originally considered a "safe"(for a pitcher obviously) bet to make it as a back of the rotation type. KG even put him as 6th on his prospect list for us when he originally signed.
  17. Different topic-I always thought Balaguert was older than what he is. I thought he was 21 for some reason when he struggled in Peoria last year, not 19. Which says a lot that this FO gave him a shot there at that age. I guess I need to give him serious consideration for the back part of the top 30.
  18. Encarnacion signed with the Phils for a mill on his birthday. Anderson Franco is BA's only top 30 prospect left(not counting Devers, who's got paperwork issues going on) and he's heavily linked to the Nats.
  19. On a good day, he sneaks into my top 20. Wow, you think the lack of stuff puts him that far out? I'm becoming a believer that he's got a good shot to become a back of the rotation type anyway. Obviously guys like Maples, Underwood, and Blackburn have more upside, but with Hendrix being closer, I've got him higher. I think he's got a better shot at the rotation than Cabrera, although that may very well be influenced by Cabrera getting limited innings at this point and Hendricks staying on a roll.
  20. After the top six, I think he's one of a dozen guys you could justify in almost any order. I really don't see why he couldn't be in the mix for the 5th starter job next year. I think he will be, but I think he's handicapped a tad by not being on the 40 man, nor having to be added until after 2014.
  21. I just did a quick run thru of a top 10 list, found myself putting Hendricks at 10......Anyone else have him up there that high currently?
  22. I forgot about Rosscup. Honestly think Arrieta will be in our rotation and figure Vizcaino spends most of the year in AAA, if he gets healthy. That said, I agree its looking much, much better now than it did a year or so ago, in this aspect.
  23. I'm starting to think he's our best bet outside of Cabrera to help in the major league pen in 2014, of all our minor leaguers.
  24. I'll disagree with that. I feel very confident in his hitting, it likely will be as a DH, but I do see him as a major league regular.
  25. Moran, the point is that I can't wait for the Cubs to be in a position to trade prospects for well established MLB talent. I wasn't trying to be literal. It's really getting to be regoddamndiculous. Theo has established he will do that, as Kyle pointed out. Jesus [expletive] Christ on a popscicle stick. Name calling? Awesome. Total class move. Honestly, not even sure what you're responding to there as it is. The Cubs can make a "buying move" trade at any point. And I doubt it'd shock many if they do exactly that this offseason, for the right piece. Which pretty much rendered your initial post into 'well duh, no [expletive]" territory, unless you actually thought we'd trade be trading our top guys.
