  1. Pound your fists all you want, but Theo doesn't have the ability to spend. If he did, we would be. Theo has taken the ONLY route he's been able to. Go read the payroll thread in Discussions. If Papa Joe won't give the kids extra allowance money, Theo and us get fucked in the ass until we have additional revenue.
  2. I think it's perfectly plausible that they could end up worse off from owning it. This part of the discussion is kind of pointless. I don't give a rats ass how much money our owner makes. I just want someone who is capable of acting like he owns a major market sports team. Right now, ours isn't and evidently can't. Thats my only concern.
  3. Because presumably nobody else would have been a sucker enough to agree with it and the Tribune would have had to back off the demands. and then you have to compete with all the other bidders who wouldn't agree to it. It basically served as a trump card. I'm not saying its not a solid deal for the family. But we don't get a World Series based off of owners profits. This deal has kept and is still keeping us from competing the way a major market team should be.
  4. We had better start a Crane Kenney appreciation thread. Our future is up to him, since the kids evidently aren't able to get any extra allowance money from dad.
  5. Another quote:" Longterm bottom line is that they have placed a potentially dangerous amount of trust in city politics and a future TV deal that is anything but guaranteed to rise to the levels of the recent news-making deals across the game. And in Crane Kenney to make it happen."
  6. Arguello and Loxas interviewed Wittenmeyer recently about the Cubs direction. Yes, he may be a tool, but he's been out in front when it comes to the Cubs spending. Direct quote from Wittenmeyer in interview:"The Ricketts family entered a deal with Sam Zell that left them with far more debt than anyone else in baseball with a family trust financing structure that assures the kids stay out of Papa Joe's pockets for more money and that has left other original suitors shaking their heads and/or laughing at the deal."
  7. Yeah, David mentioned it in another thread. Rogers is a baseball idiot. No clue about hockey. ABTY says he smells bad too, so he's got that going for him.
  8. I think its more of a big picture thing. Rizzo is the only longterm piece we have that's a lefty.
  9. Yeah, especially with young pitching, as its so volatile anyway. A truly special talent, like Harper or Trout, may bet on themselves, to hit FA at an early age. But the financial security at the expense of taking slightly less money going year to year, makes quite a bit of sense for the vast majority. With teams having extra money to spend, on top of that, all I see happening, is overpaying the guys hitting FA in their early 30's anyway.
  10. Seems like we'll have a lot to follow this fall. Yeah, McLeod mentioned Javy playing winter ball as well, so that may tell us the AFL isn't on his agenda this offseason.
  11. Sounds like Vizcaino is on track for the AFL. That'd be nice to see obviously.
  12. Andy MacPhail, 1996 All that proves is he didn't stay true to what he wanted to do. Helped out by the fact he hired a bunch of morons to help him carry out his plan.
  13. It will need to be addressed in Spring Training, on some level, I'd imagine.
  14. Mooney's latest article acts like we won't have much money to spend, but we'll prioritize left handed hitting and pitching this offseason. If we're going bargain shopping and the big names are off the board, throw some money at Josh Johnson and hope he stays healthy.
  15. Quote from Theo in a Wittenmyer article, he says that trading for IFA space WAS to save money off the penalties. We are a mid market team officially.
  16. Other guys that kind of make sense would be Lockhart, he's already a utility type. Mark Malave was signed originally as a C. No clue if Rock would have the arm(or athleticism) but he'd make a bit of sense. Maybe BJ Rademacher? Definiteky has the arm anyway. Oliver Zapata, maybe? At any rate, if there are 3 targets, I bet its out of that group, plus Jeimer. I can't think of anyone else.
  17. With him coming off TJS, I doubt it. Maybe Villanueva? Solid arm at 3B, blocked by a myriad of options.....Same with Gioskar Amaya. Although I'm not sure Amaya would have the arm strength. I didn't even know what Bruno's injury was, oops. Can't believe they'd try to convert an upper-level guy like Villanueva. I thought about that, along with the fact he's already on the 40 man. I guess that one's a stretch. Candelario, maybe?

  19. The more I think about this, the more I think we'll be in bigtime on Abreu. 2014 isn't likely to be the year we head into a year expecting playoffs, as it is. Signing him gives us options: Rizzo could possibly play LF, he could be dealt after Abreu were signed. Theo keeps stating we're in talent acquisition mode, if this is a huge talent, at the age parameters we like, you sign him and let things work out afterwards. Hell, all the teams after him would likely want or need Rizzo at that point anyway. We may lose out due to HAVING Rizzo, for all I know, but I really feel we'll be in the mix here and it wouldn't shock me if we got him.
  20. Unassisted DP by Javy, tagging runner going from 2nd to 3rd AND tagging runner going 1st to 2nd. WTF?
  21. We're going to win the World Series with a payroll under 50 million.
  22. Everyone loves Correa, since he's 18 all season, with how he's played, I can understand if he's ranked over Javy. By the way, Villanueva just doubled. He's now 7 for his last 14, with 4 2B's and 2 HR's.
  23. Javy roped a single to RF his 1st AB.
  24. I'm all about giving the FO props, but this shouldn't happen until some of these guys see success in the majors. Nothing against DJ, its certainly trending the way we want it to.
