  1. They lost more than just trading Aiken for the #2 pick here, this cost them two other pretty big talents. They decided their convictions over 2-3 million weren't worth draft picks(not Aiken) that would very likely exceed that in value. Just one. They weren't getting Marshall unless their undercutting tactic had worked a d Aiken accepted at least a mill less than he had agreed to. Plus, they can still possibly make up for the loss of Nix by under slotting at 2 next year.
  2. With the way the CBA works, can you even afford to pay two top-5 talents? It'll be slotted. They'll have a ridiculously high draft amount to work with next year.
  3. Appel was already looking awful before the draft. I doubt that had anything to do with this. I don't see how giving up a year worth of development on the #1 pick (in return for the #2 pick a year later) plus Nix can be viewed as a win. I'm not necessarily saying its a win, I am just saying I think they got cold feet on pitching. If they take 2 college bats(or even pitchers) next year, their rebuild didn't lose anything though. As they'd be getting older players than Aiken at that point.
  4. I think what we just saw was a correction by the Astros. One that works out better for them honestly. With the Appel shittiness, coupled with what likely was somewhat of an elbow concern on Aiken.....I think we witnessed them changing their mindset during the middle of the signing period. They'll have pick 2, plus their own top 5 pick. The amount of flexibility that gives a team is insane with this format. They'll take hitting at both spots and likely have a very solid amount left over to take pitching, as we did. They're about to copy us. Just watch.
  5. Not far enough to cement themselves as absolute elite of the elite types. We're not looking at a Bryce Harper situation.
  6. [expletive]. Bregman struggled this past season too, but he's getting a pass from most.(injury?) The guy Schmidt just mentioned is a hell of a hitter. But with Bregman being a SS, I think he'll be higher after the next season. There's a good 2B too, too lazy to look him up. Edit-Happ, thanks Raisin
  7. It's probably Alex Bregman. Another weak year, as of now, for college bats.
  8. I know the simple solution is our 3 SS playing 2B/SS/3B. But if the FO truly sees KB at 3B, it throws things off a tad anyway. Soler seems a better fit in RF than KB as it is..... Maybe it's this..... C Castillo 1B Rizzo 2B Castro SS Russell 3B KB LF Javy CF Alcantara RF Soler
  9. Which would seem to me to indicate there is plenty of time before we can expect him to be in the majors. That's all I'm trying to say. I think he's going to take a little more time at this level than Baez. How old was Castro when he started in AA? Castro was 19 in AA. He was 20 as well. He got 31 games as a 19 year old, then another 26 when he was 20.
  10. I thought $250k was the highest they could go with any one player. Crap, 4 players. Plus the SS with no bonus figures.
  11. So, 850k confirmed on 3,guys, with one guys bonus unknown. I can't imagine us spending it all, I hope we just roll over some for next year.
  12. I agree with Goony. I doubt Russell, or McKinney either, for that matter, would be at the level there at right now, if they'd been in our system from the start. Or if they were, they'd have just been promoted to it very recently. And only if Russell hasn't been injured.
  13. Russell is obviously the guy that the FO could take longer on. He's missed a good part of this year and I doubt they'd consider a position switch mid season for either him or Starlin. Nor do I think they switch Russell in the offseason if he's definitively a SS longterm. No idea on Soler, but if he stays healthy and continues to rake, I hope they send him to Iowa by August 1st or so. Then all bets are off with him, in my mind.
  14. So I'm right. Not all that great.
  15. I'm far from convinced Shark would have been given a rotation spot by the previous regime. Them doing it with Dempster when he wasn't even their prized possession makes me think they would have. I think he would have been given a shot. But if I'm not mistaken, his first spring training numbers weren't all that great. I think they would have had an extra starter or two in camp and figure he wouldn't have had any leash whatsoever.
  16. I'm far from convinced Shark would have been given a rotation spot by the previous regime.
  17. Ty Cobb could have went 0 for 2500 and still would have batted over .300.
  18. I want Houston to take a pitcher again next year in the top 5 so [expletive] bad.
  19. .288/.361/.515 Streak or overall? Overall
  20. Stephenson helps them a ton.
  21. Are they top docs in @injuryexpert's mind or a real person? One of them was Andrews.
  22. Supposedly better than this year. Obviously too early to know though.
  23. Why should the kids' adviser shut up? He absolutely should speak up on his behalf. because he's bitching like the the Astros OWE him 6.5Mil. If they think he's got a shaky elbow, then they dont owe him anything. If i'm an astros fan and this guy is headed for TJS, i'd much rather have the 2nd pick next year. Even more so because eff all the pitchers. The point is most all pitchers have abnormalities in their elbows. They're trying to take advantage right now of what's very likely a non-situation. Close is probably the most respected agent in baseball, I'm very confident this is the Astros being dicks. Not the other way around. Especially considering quite a few teams evidently complain about them.
  24. Yeah, but I'm still unclear as to whether that was just the 12 year old(Murray?) throwing [expletive] up against the wall or not. As for PTBNL's, I'm pretty sure there are deals done that performance dictates what list of players a team gets to choose their PTBNL from.
