  1. That's yet to be determined. One, if Aiken and his family were truly pissed, it's possible they told him not to bother. 6.5 or nothing type of thing. Hell, for all we know, their price went UP after being flown in and instead of getting announced, they get a half price offer instead. Two, and this is what's truly unknown by us-is what Close may think the MLBPA may get done. Make the Astros pay the 6.5? Free Agency? Who knows? I'll say this though.......And it's obvious, but if the end result here winds up with Aiken receiving UNDER 5 mill, Close failed. Their approach however, makes me think they've got an insurance policy in place that's covering his arm for at least that amount.
  2. Why offer him a contract? Because they had to in order to sign any of the 3? It's clear you don't know the mechanisms of the draft. That's fine. But they only needed to offer 40% of slot for that. They upped their offer to 5 mill from their initial offer. They let 1.5 mill keep them from signing him. It's pretty easy to see they looked at the MRI as a situation to take advantage of. By getting a 3rd guy signed as well. Who knows if 5 mill was even their final offer? They pissed off Aiken and Close enough that they didn't even bother re-engaging in talks at the end. If they were so worried, I find it very hard to believe they'd keep upping their offer. They lost their footing in this over getting greedy and trying to add a Carson Sands type prospect to standing pat with Aiken, Nix, and no future backlash.
  3. Seriously. It's such a slippery slope with this. Boras, Close, Tellem-all the too agents are licking their chops. Personally, I'd just like the old system back.
  4. At any rate, a grievance was filed today by the MLBPA on Aiken and Nix's situation.
  5. 6IP 2H 0R 3W 8K, final line for Pierce.
  6. Why offer him a contract? They saw a way to use information obtained to try to get the best possible draft results. They did knowing they had a handshake agreement with Aiken. Agreed.
  7. If something happens with him, I'd guess its an August deal and he'd need to put together a few solid starts before anyone would remotely think about it.
  8. Mauricio Rubio: Let's talk pitching a bit. Underwood has a higher ceiling than Tseng, the curveball has better snap and has potential to be special, but Tseng has a more polished profile and a higher ceiling. Underwood belongs in the C.J. Edwards, Jen-Ho Tseng, Pierce Johnson level, Blackburn and Torrez are in the tier below for me.
  9. All I see getting dealt by the end of this month is one of Russell or Wright and Bonifacio. Hopefully to the same team. I doubt Barney gets dealt and no one else seems likely either. If Ruggiano or Valbuena gets moved, I figure it'll be for enough that we like it at least.
  10. Flete and Burks promoted to Boise.
  11. I read Rubio, writes stuff for Arguello. He's also at BP, getting him was a coup for Arguello. I read any of Loxas' minions.
  12. We need to dig Big Stein up then.
  13. I don't think losing Marshall, when you didn't originally think you were signing him anyway, equals the headache attached to re-building trust from agents and potential draft picks.
  14. x2 That's 2, they're in the 3rd. Both to LCF.
  15. You damn near HAVE to offer the minimum. It's only 40% of slot and if you don't, you don't get the pick next year. Not to mention, they obviously knew Aiken wasn't about to accept at that figure. I have no doubt that the MRI shows stuff that is less than ideal. But they changed course here. You don't lose Aiken just because you can't get Marshall.Nor do you lose him over 1.5 mill. If you're willing to pay him 5, you should be willing to pay the 6.5. The fact they would have paid 5 shows they didn't care THAT much about the results. I honestly think they got spooked by Appel, seeing all these pitching injuries, and came to terms that pitching needs to be acquired in ways other than at the top of the draft. Hedged their bets with Marshall, but are likely extremely happy they'll have the 2nd pick next year instead. And I'll be beyond shocked if they take pitching high again. There only real flaw here is its going to hurt them moving forward negotiating with agents. And I honestly think they're underestimating how much.
  16. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd have no issue at all throwing a few 1sts on top of McDermott/Taj/Mirotic, if they're not already included. Still think Cavs get him though.
  17. What did I miss with the wizard stuff?
  18. Barry Sanders was 5'8, 200. I'd venture to say he'd have been thought of as a plus-plus runner.
  19. Didn't Almora leave the team early in the year for his dad's health problems? I know it was someone in his immediate family anyway. At any rate, something like that can obviously mess with a kids head.
  20. Is he getting DFA'd or are you speculating?
  21. And Mooney is saying Soler is expected to be a September callup.
  22. Yeah, it's time. Past time. Maybe he'll hit well enough at Iowa to get called back in September and put himself in position for a backup spot next year. Odds aren't in his favor though obviously.
  23. Wow. Good lord.....Javy, KB, and Soler in the same lineup...... I honestly think Almora will be solid in Tennessee right from the start for some reason.
  24. No TJS for Pineyro yet, he's starting in Arizona tonight.
  25. Well the only way we aren't coming off a sweep at the hands of the worst team in the league is if these guys are instead Evidently Ambrose-Cesaro had an ECW type No-DQ match tonight.
