  1. Coach Boone somehow kept 30 year olds eligible for High School and still won a championship after losing his All-Everything LB to paralysis and his starting QB to a racist lineman. He also benched Ryan Gosling for some guy from Scrubs. On second thought, [expletive] it, it's Lou Brown.
  2. [expletive] it, this is a great opportunity to Scherzer the [expletive] out of a contract. Give him a 5 year deal at 20 per(I still think he's getting close to this with Padres desperate, and we'd need to pay over to structure it like this) 8 mill for 5 years and 6 mill for each of the 10 after that. 6 mill won't matter(hopefully) once we have a TV deal and it wouldn't keep us from getting a big name SP next offseason either.
  3. Yeah, Im pretty sure Ervin Santana just did that last offseason.
  4. That'd be entertaining. I'd [expletive] love to sign him if it doesn't cause us to miss out next offseason. How far has the price tag dropped?
  5. http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/dan-patrick-fires-back-colin-cowherd.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=dan-patrick-fires-back-colin-cowherd Cowherd accuses DP of not working hard, DP hits a walk off as his response.
  6. Sure, but I'm not afraid to pay through the nose. You want Russell and three other good prospects? All yours. For who? Strasburg? If he'd consider an extension, I guess so. But he won't, so I can't see that type of deal happening.
  7. 26 year olds with 1 20@ inning season and acey....At least you're not limiting your options.
  8. I'm fine with that, although I'm surprised you would be. Based on not being able to trust pitching staying healthy. My honest guess is the FO likely falls on that side of things too. I kind of suspect any major trade we make in the near future will bring a seasoned, big bat to us and we'll use FA for pitching.
  9. I'd just as soon hold off on Shields now. If we ARE contending, we can add mid season, if necessary. If we're not, or if we are and address other needs at the deadline, we can get a guy next offseason. Some of them will be available for sure anyway. Only way I go after Shields is if he'd sign a 1-2 year deal(very, very doubtful in my opinion) or if the FO knows they can sign him AND it doesn't change the fact we'd still have room to grab another one next offseason too.(I'd be shocked if we had the capability to add Shields + Zimmermann/Price/whoever.)
  10. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/sam-mellinger/article8885318.html If Goodell is the worst, Will Shields is the best. Awesome write up.
  11. My prediction is the Dodgers get him AND hold off signing him til July 2nd, where they can go crazy then too.
  12. Man... I really [expletive] love this front office and Maddon. Yeah, Maddon said he wanted Javy to relax and smile.
  13. 3-8 w/ a 2B, W, and a K his last 2 games.
  14. So, first interview he mentions banning shifts and making pitchers pitch to more than one hitter.
  15. I thought I read he was not there. Dayn Perry suggested Ernie Banks Day every year on his ML debut for the Cubs to play 2. Agree wholeheartedly. I saw that. Unfortunately his MLB debut was on September 17. Not sure I want a contending Cubs team to be playing a DH on the second to last week of the season. How about 5/12 for his 512 career HRs? Yeah, that date would work better. Love the general idea, hope they do it.
  16. Very well said. RIP Ernie, wherever you are, I hope you're playing two every day. @OldHossRadbourn: This new guy wants me to throw both ends of a double-header. I like him.

  18. RIP Ernie.
  19. Fowler got 9.5, 150k under the midpoint. Strop is evidently going to test arbitration. According to that kid, Murray. We've definitely got depth from a pitching standpoint. Gotta wonder why this guy has been passed around so much? Seems he wouldn't be a bubble guy.
  20. I'm not aware of any connection between the two. However, the 23 year old CF, Guillermo Heredia, who JUST defected, was teammates with Soler. He was ranked 11th last time Badler did Cuban prospect rankings. He won't be subject to the bonus pools and is very close to major league ready. Elite defender, bat is possibly a question mark.
  21. I think Mark Walter can use his stripper tip money and outbid the Yankees.
  22. Does he? I've never had much to complain about on him, but is handling a negotiation like that smart, when its going to be in the hands of a judge? I'm over the rooftops, as I'm fairly positive everyone on here is, but rubbing stuff in their face(if even true) could make them sympathetic in the eyes of a judge, I guess. Especially considering their prior agreement til 2023.
  23. DiCaro breaking down the new lawsuit.... http://www.aleagueofherown.com/rooftops-lawsuit-chicago-cubs/
  24. I think we need his OFAC clearance to be held up til mid April or so to start seriously thinking we've got a chance with him. Because we're not going to blow the Yanks or Red Sox out of the water bidding. Not to mention the Dodgers, who we'd still have to contend with if it miraculously drug on for a while.
  25. Being able to spread his bonus payment out over 3 seasons is very beneficial to us.
