  1. I can see a CF added, but I'm not holding my breath, due to lack of reasonable options. Other than a Castillo trade, I think it's fairly likely we're done til the deadline.
  2. Dave Stewart added that he feels teams are trying to exploit a weakness on the Diamondbacks roster and asking for the team’s top prospects in return. Arizona has two catchers on their roster, Tuffy Gosewisch and Oscar Hernandez, the recent Rule 5 Draft pick up. That's from an Arizona article the CCO picked up.
  3. It's bold. Mad would be fair as well. If some things go right and they are a bit lucky, it's possible they are in the playoff hunt. It's really not a bad roster, and in the era of the 2nd Wild Card, it's really not as incredulous as it sounds, despite the moves they've made this offseason. I wouldn't bet on it, but if they get some hitting .... If not, he could probably spin Zobrist off to a desperate deadline team. Still, giving up Robertson after giving up Russell is ... bold/mad. Keep in mind, Oakland did get Franklin Barreto in the Donaldson deal. Long way off obviously, but they've still got their "SS of the future".
  4. They also dealt Boog Powell. Couldn't we have conjured up a Greg Luzinski or something?
  5. From a value standpoint, I'd say McKinney and Castillo has to be pretty equal to Robertson and Jaso, right? I can see why Tampa would prefer a SS though as the lead piece.
  6. I guess I'm hoping beyond hope that Tampa doesn't want to deal with us right now and Billy trades him to us tomorrow.
  7. Seriously, WTF. I'm starting to think Beane spins a wheel and does whatever it lands on at this point.
  8. Yeah, definitely remember Toonster not being high on SD's system the way our guys left it. I'll say this though, I DO count Rizzo as a home grown guy. Our guys drafted him, then traded for him twice. He's been under our FO's care his entire career. So while he may not be a Cub homegrown guy, he's definitely homegrown from our FO, at least.
  9. Sure, that's probably the most feasible "hope" for the Cubs. If he gets cleared remotely soon, the Cubs would have to offer him incentive to hold off on signing. How much would that be on top of what the leading bid for signing now actually be? I'd think it'd be a fairly sizable sum personally, as by waiting on us, he'd be punting a large portion of 2015. Couple that with the fact we've got lots of young talent that plays the IF, he's going to find better fits from that standpoint too. Plus, I have very serious doubt that PTR has an extra 80-100 mill he can spend all at once. Because that's the case here, there's no 40 man spots with 6 to 8 year deals here. It's all a signing bonus and the subsequent penalty. I'd love to get the guy, but I have never thought we had much of a shot.
  10. Yeah, we're going to need some help here. For those that didn't see, Kiley called the Yankees and Red Sox heavy favorites for him yesterday on twitter.
  11. Pretty hardcore. He was arrested before NOON today, I figured it was last night when he got pulled.
  12. You're probably right, but Norwood was in their top 200 at draft time. So it's possible he made it in, I guess.
  13. Strongest 11-20 in baseball too, possible trades can be built using some from that grouping.
  14. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2015-chicago-cubs-top-10-prospects-chat/ Manuel retweeted this, thought it was under their pay wall, but evidently not. Good stuff.
  15. why do I feel like I wont be surprised that its LAD I seriously doubt it. If its true, my guess is its a non contending team or at least a small market team that's iffy to contend. If he had 110 from a very good team, I bet he'd have taken it already.
  16. 2/22 with an option(that's not impossible to vest, at 13) for Coco Crisp. Coming off a down year, he's not likely to cost much of a return. But is it worth it to get him and move Alcantara into a utility role?
  17. If we're after Zobrist, I'd have to think Valbuena would be of some interest to Tampa. Extra year of control and could probably fill in at close to every spot Zobrist can.
  18. I've seen the Nats connected to C's this offseason, they could replace the Dodgers.
  19. I'm guessing Theo is "selling" him as a top 20 C, that's what he called him within the last month somewhere. I think in a one for one type deal, he'd net us a Vogelbach caliber prospect.(top 10 in most systems)
  20. I think of Wood as a break even type. I'm sure someone wod take his contract, but I don't think he'd net a return of anything worthwhile. Maybe the same type of return we gave up for Montero. Teams that aren't all in on pitch framing could value Castillo quite highly. My guess is he's worth a top 10 prospect from an average system. For what it's worth, Cafardo mentioned Tampa asking for a top prospect along with a mid level one from teams.
  21. Where is the Rasmus rumor from? Hasn't popped into my timeline yet, unless I missed it.
  22. They took a quantity package for Myers, with their weak system, I could definitely see them take the same approach with Zobrist.
  23. He was a major reason SC was must watch for me back then.
