  1. I have no idea why Cespedes is getting 3 years in a world where Ian horsefeathering Kennedy gets 5.
  2. Oops, guess its Lue.
  3. Oh man. Thibs in Cleveland would suck.
  4. The player development aspect of our organization is worlds ahead of where it was. Obviously, there will be misses, but I'm confident we'll hit on our fair share too. There's a very nice mix of high upside guys at the lower levels and solid contributing, role playing types in the upper levels. The cool thing is we aren't counting on the Almora, Contreras, Edwards types to be elite. If any of that group becomes more than average, its just piling on. The guys that have the upside, Jimenez, Cease, Martinez, etc.....If they actually develop, it'll be flat out insane as to the amount of talent we've amassed.(if its not already)
  5. And just like that, Contreras is named the top catching prospect in baseball, by MLB. So I guess there very well may be some people in baseball who see Contreras being better than some of that group....
  6. You realize that half the guys you're trying to get us to trade for at C have either sucked fiercely in the majors or have zero major league experience, right? Sanchez. Hedges. Plawecki. Zunino. Suck or have little to zero experience. Here comes the pedigree horsefeathers you'll attempt to use..... As for the Heyward in CF comment.....I will gladly admit I didn't think we'd go after him for CF, I was of the opinion his size would keep the FO from looking at him there, figuring he'd still be a possibility for RF obviously. David and TT(I think) were the two that posted enough about the smaller OF to where it makes sense to me now. That doesn't change the fact we needed an OF at the time and we signed one. It was much more of a need than C is or even will be at this time next year.
  7. The Heyward move didn't teach us anything. CF was a horsefeathering need. We literally had Matt Szczur on our roster and that was it, prior to Heyward. You assess Contreras this season(as I already said) and go from there. A lot more will be known as to whether or not it looks like he's capable of becoming our starting C in 2017 after seeing how 2016 goes.
  8. Going after a C now, would be a stupid use of resources. Between Montero, Schwarber, and Contreras, I feel pretty confident about 2017 as well. The FO certainly likes Contreras, if we hand it to him next year, I won't be surprised at all. I'd go as far as to say he'd need to fall on his face in AAA this year for that NOT to happen. If it does, all bets are off. But preserving assets means much more currently than trying to upgrade a spot that likely doesn't lend itself to that huge of an upgrade to begin with. 1) Frontline SP 2) Late inning BP guy(and those could be flip flopped for all I know) Anything else can and should be put on the backburner until it actually becomes a need.
  9. Munenori Kawasaki appears to have signed a minor league deal with us. He may not be much of a player, but he's fun.
  10. He's not been that here. He was Gato on PSD.
  11. Took waffles, but it'd be French toast about half the time. Pancakes didn't register for me.
  12. Closer to 88, I think....Replacement level is 47.6, I think.
  13. I remember thinking Ruiz' showcase wasn't great, but I didn't think the reports were that negative either. He had his expected velo, the command wasn't quite what was expected, if I recall. Which was disappointing, but understandable due to it being his first showcase. He's had quite a layoff. Could be wrong, but that's what I thought it was. Gutierrez, with multiple showcases, had slightly less than expected velo and worse command at his latest one than it had been.
  14. Gutierrez and Machado have been cleared for a good length of time already. Especially Gutierrez. The best thing about that is it likely means the Dodgers aren't THAT interested in them, or they'd already have them Gutierrez reports from his showcases haven't been good either, hopefully it causes his pricetag to drop. I haven't heard anything on Machado at all from a showcase standpoint. At 16 though, he's another guy that likely isn't in any real hurry to sign.
  15. Its a sobering thought, but now that we ARE into the new year and the vast majority of these guys aren't cleared yet, other teams have a much better shot now. I know I'll be thrilled at this point if we add 2 guys between now and the deadline. If we just get one of the 1st round talents, I'm content. If we're to do more than that, we need guys getting cleared ASAP. I am at least happy Badler expects Morejon to be cleared to where we at least have a shot at him.
  16. Wait, so Heyward and Dempster took turns reading mean tweets from Card fans?
  17. Cubs sign C Tim Fedorowicz and IF Kris Negron.
  18. What's he doing? That's all he's teased so far. So that would seem to imply he's replacing either Gonzales, Wittenmyer, Miles (??), Mooney, Muskat, or Rogers...can't see him leaving BP for another startup. Who else would need a daily beat guy? Yeah, I don't see other options either, but I guess it'd be dependent on how much traveling is involved.
  19. What's he doing? That's all he's teased so far.
  20. Kind of seems BP is a sinking ship at this point. Glad to see Sharma will be traveling and giving us more Cubs coverage. He's my favorite Cubs writer by far.
  21. Yeah, I had just a few vague comments about it yesterday on my timeline. I was curious who it was too and would have put money on it being Telander. I just laughed when I saw it was that idiot.
  22. Nah, there's been nothing connecting McKinney with anyone. A while back, a reporter(very well may have been Rogers) did say the Rays have interest in Villanueva/Vogelbach/Szczur.
  23. He sits 88-93, based on reports from when he was in Cuba.
