  1. Who knows? Trying to read between the lines on Morejon, we WERE the favorites, then talk of him waiting, then hearing the Pads are going big on IFA's......I guess that's our main competition on him? Other than the fact he needs to be cleared obviously. As for pricetags, I've honestly got no idea......But I could see Ruiz bringing a ton, based on pedigree and the fact he's fairly close to being able to contribute in the majors.....Obviously, he'll need to put together a solid showcase. Lazarito, despite the tremendous hype, is a 16 year old. I know there are rumors of him turning down 15 mill to play in Japan and speculation his pricetag can reach Moncada levels......As a 16 year old, unless teams truly see him as a Bryce Harper type(and early reports are they don't), I don't see teams shelling that kind of cash out for a kid that far out. If the Dodgers want to, they can outbid the field easily.....But at 16, I think we'll see teams(even the Dodgers) bid rather accordingly. But yeah, I'd take Ruiz and Morejon over him, if we can choose a scenario.
  2. Swap out the tenderloin for bacon and you've got mine.
  3. http://deadspin.com/heres-the-clippers-equipment-manager-that-blake-griffin-1755262537?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow At least Blake picked on someone within 3 feet of his height.
  4. I'll put this here, I guess......The Cubs have left the Venezuelan Summer League, which then disbanded due to lack of teams. Cubs are back to 2 teams in the DSL now.
  5. Yeah, plus the really good C(Gutierrez) as well.
  6. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 33m33 minutes ago Source: Cuban teen phenom Lazarito anticipates a decision by Feb. 10. Already negotiating with teams, while a few private workouts remain. Badler is reporting the Braves, Nats, and Padres all plan on decimating their IFA budgets this upcoming season. With Atlanta rivaling what the Yanks did 2 years ago, 15+ mill before penalties. The Pads are now EXPECTED to get multiples of the major Cubans currently out there, according to Badler. 7. Prime? .275 .345 .460 BABIP it up by twenty points each in a career year. I think he's 4-5 years from a year like that if he does it though. Thats fair. I'd say it could happen sooner though. The bat was fairly solid last year at 21 and only having 321 combined AB's higher than A+ ball. I think the learning curve will be much quicker due to him just needing AB's versus better pitching, in general.
  8. D.J. Wilson gets my vote. He was too high on my list for me to go there, but yeah.....I'm expecting him to become very well known very soon. The reports sound great on him.
  9. ...he says nervously while tugging at the collar of his shirt Nah. Russell is the kind of prospect/young player I can't get behind. Good, not great hitter in any way who I think is overvalued because they play a premium position. Think Baez has a better future. Curious.....What type of slash line do you expect he'll put up in his prime?
  10. Seriously. Of course the guys that were picked aren't likely to make that type of jump. Newsflash- neither is Kellogg. Who by the way must have improved in extremely odd ways considering he went from a fairly likely 1st rounder prior to his junior year to a 5th rounder that didn't even get an over slot. I always enjoy when you find your courage after a couple people crack open the window. Yes, it is obvious so imagine I meant a little more than the basics there. I didn't have Kellogg as a first rounder going into his junior year. Freshman year? Yes. Going from 2-3 to 5 isn't a thing. Excuse me? I call your stupid horsefeathers out as much or more than anyone. How's Sanchez look with BP by the way? Since EVERYONE in baseball has him higher than Contreras according to you. Seriously Babby...Let's see your essay on what Kellogg has improved on each year? Or admit its just your stupid ass scouting horsefeathers NO ONE cares to hear. Kellogg being on your own personal list means nothing. He went into his Junior year with a distinct chance of being a 1st rounder. He wound up in the 5th. I don't dislike the player either, but he is a 5th rounder that got slot. If he was as well thought of as you act like he should be, he wouldn't be a guy that got 5th round slot money.
  11. Ugh you're right...That's so dramatic. I thought at least Sickels had him in there. Who goes from consensus not-a-system-top-30 to top 60 or potentially better overall prospect at 23, 7 years into a pro career? That's odd, but so is ranking prospects instead of talking about them. In my defense, I had him safely in the top 30, IIRC even top 20, and assumed all the big ones did too. I'd still give the Markey/Penalver/Baez trio an exceptionally long shot at taking the kind of leap Contreras did. No [expletive]. It's almost like what Contreras did is insanely tough to replicate. It's almost like his ascension was extraordinarily noteworthy. Seriously. Of course the guys that were picked aren't likely to make that type of jump. Newsflash- neither is Kellogg. Who by the way must have improved in extremely odd ways considering he went from a fairly likely 1st rounder prior to his junior year to a 5th rounder that didn't even get an over slot.
  12. Contreras wasn't a top 30 guy last year by most accounts.
  13. I'll go with Markey. I don't think Clifton is far enough off the radar to meet where Contreras was last year. I'm not even sure Markey qualifies, as he'd make my top 30. I'll say Penalver. He's got the defensive ability to play SS in the majors, a .675-.700 OPS showing in Tennessee(remote at best) would put him on some radars. Hard to pick from what's outside our top 30 currently.
  14. I think the Bulls are favorites against anyone outside of Cleveland in the East. But I think I'd have a hard time betting on them making the ECF, even if Cleveland is on the other side. I'd love to see them add a wing, that'd probably change my mind a bit. But I'll be surprised if they make a move.
  15. Yeah, the system is a nice blend of role players at the high levels and some serious upside at the lower ones. EJM, Cease, Jimenez, Delacruz, maybe Sands or Steele, maybe even DJ Wilson, could all take massive leaps next year. Obviously, they all won't. But if just 1 or 2 does, the system begins to look better on paper again. And I think I'd take that bet quickly myself.
  16. Most of the guys at BP work a full time job and write on the side, from what it appears. My guess is someone gave these guys a bit of capital to work with(no idea why) and they'll use it as long as it lasts. A year seems about right to me. On a side note, BP is truly a sinking ship. All those guys left for 2080, now Sharma.....That Rien Watt guy who had just started writing some decent stuff for BP Wrigleyville is now in charge of it......
  17. Yeah, its unfortunately pretty underwhelming.
  18. Considering the amount of guys who made it, I'm surprised Underwood wasn't on it. I'm surprised that both of Almora/McKinney made it. I'll take a wait and see approach on EJM. Its basically Badler vs Kiley and Law as to who's right on him. And I tend to side with the guys who saw him after he defected over the guy who hasn't.(Badler) Remember, he was offered around 10 mill by the Yankees, but pushed his eligibility into the next period, thinking they'd get the Giants and Dodgers in a bidding war. The Giants signed Fox for less and didn't have it in their budget to still give EJM 10. The Dodgers dropped their bid accordingly, then fired their entire IFA department. Which is when we grabbed him, as he had had enough and wanted to be signed. Kiley and Law both thought we stole him.
  19. Its pretty awesome considering the graduations we've had.
  20. Double
  21. 6 Cubs make the list.....Torres at 41, Contreras at 57, Happ at 67, McKinney at 74, Almora at 83, and Eddy Julio Martinez at 97.
  22. I think Schwarbers K rate goes down actually. He's not been known as a huge K guy. His ascent to the majors was extremely quick, he'll start adjusting some, especially against lefties. It was his first full professional season and with the instant success, he swung out of his shoes more often than he will in the future. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a 20% K type in his prime. My guess is he'll be 25ish in 2016, with a 10+% Walk rate. I definitely don't see him struggling though.
  23. So? Hitting over pitching, to begin with. I guess there's a chance he turned down Detroit at the same money Upton got, for the opt out after 1.....But I'd have taken the Upton deal. Hitting over pitching has never played itself out in the FA market. It's just really misleading to say Cespedes only got 3 years where Kennedy got 5. Like it would be better if Cespedes got 7/75. Even if he plays out all 3 years of this contract, he'll be 33 at his next opp and next year's OF market is Carlos Gomez, Colby Rasmus, and old Bautista and older Holliday I get what you're saying. I don't understand WHY average pitching is getting the 5 year deals, when a difference making hitter is taking that type of deal. In my mind, Cespedes should have gotten 5 or 6 at over 20 easily. Depressed run environment and all......Most teams obviously aren't in agreement though.
  24. #Hugetits
  25. He got more money over 3 than Kennedy did over 5. So? Hitting over pitching, to begin with. I guess there's a chance he turned down Detroit at the same money Upton got, for the opt out after 1.....But I'd have taken the Upton deal.
