  1. 1. Braves 2. Dodgers 3. Twins Rockies are 7th, by the way.
  2. Kiley had become my top guy, with Law 2nd(1st again now)Callis going to MLB moved them ahead of BA for me(even with Mayo sucking). BA comes next, then BP, who just keeps losing guys. With KG and Parks, they were on Law's level easily. Sickels and the new FG guy suck.
  3. Its hilarious to see the descrepancies. I still think 7-10 is where we likely are, plenty of upper level guys that can contribute, plenty of lower level high ceiling types. Very good mixture overall.
  4. If what Olney says is correct and Dex can't find 2/20 out there, at some point, it does become feasible to bring him back and trade Soler + for the best pitching you can get, right?
  5. But I want a guy that hits .500 and strikes out once a month.
  6. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/gurriel-brothers-might-play-2017/ Hadn't been posted yet, but here's Badler's piece on the Gurriels, basically saying he expects Lourdes to sign between his birthday in October and early December, when the CBA ends.....
  7. My solution: 1) get Schwarbs ready to catch in 2017 2) get Bryant ready to play LF in 2017 3) sign Gurriel and put him at 3B Or, if Soler flops, just put Bryant in RF. Naturally, everyone can move around in Maddon's daily position blender. Ah yeah, that'd work. I doubt Schwarber ever catches for us though. But the KB thing works for sure. Either way, our versatility is horsefeathering awesome. We can find a spot for him. As a 32 year old for next season, obviously showing no signs of decline, I wonder what it'd take to get him?
  8. He supposedly can play 2B, even if he's playing 3B currently. If he's willing and able, my honest guess is Zobrist wouldn't have an issue moving to RF in 2017. I doubt Gurriel plays in 2016 anywhere.
  9. Rian Watt ‏@rianwatt 4m4 minutes ago On the basis of conversations with folks who'd know (and common sense) I very much doubt the Cubs are in on Lazarito at reported prices. https://theathletic.com/2016/02/09/cubs-notes-cuban-prospects-intriguing-options-for-north-siders/ Info from Sharma, sounds like the Cubans we have the most interest in are OF Yadiel Hernandez, P Norge Ruiz, and P Cionel Perez.
  10. Actually, if we're finding out tomorrow, I'm going to be hopeful. There wouldn't be anything "definite" if he is holding out until the next signing period. True, my guess is if it's not us, the Dodgers, or I guess San Fran, that we won't hear an announcement. If it IS us, I'll just hope we've still got some money left over for pitching.....Although Gutierrez is still the only one actually available and we're just getting closer and closer to the next period. It sucks they've taken their sweet ass time in giving these guys their eligibility. Even if it's probably the fairest thing to do(so we don't just watch the Dodgers spend comically.)
  11. I think it's Torres and not all that close honestly. Outside of a few reports back when he was still an IFA, there's been extremely little(if any at all) questioning as to whether he'll stick at SS. Is he an uber ceiling guy? Of course not. But a solid defense, solid bat at SS is a very valuable commodity. He's super advanced for his age too, I'd liken him to Starlin in a lot of ways(just not as good of contact). With Contreras having actual questions due to him being fairly raw defensively, it's an easy choice for me. Even if I think Contreras is the better pick to actually play for the Cubs at some point.
  12. I'll go with Philly or SD in a big overpay to hold him off til next signing period, maybe 25 mill.....I'll be surprised if it's us, although if we DID decide to ante up that kind of cash for him, I'd become irrationally excited, as I'd trust our group in doling out that kind of cash for a 16 year old.....
  13. Lourdes does turn 23 in October. Not sure if he'd be willing to wait that long but that would get every team in baseball eligible. Honestly, if you think about it, I bet he's just becoming eligible anyway by then. Plus, it'd make sense for him to wait anyway, since he'd pocket the penalty money and he'd get a major league deal.
  14. Brothers Yulieski Gurriel & Lourdes Gurriel Jr. reportedly defected and will be seeking MLB deals. Check https://t.co/mkcBseoZWQ for story. Jesse Sanchez Damn, if true, that's big. And we definitely won't have a shot at the younger one, who's the best young talent left there. The older one is 33 and a very good player. I had him confused with the 31 year old, Yunieski, who is the best player in Cuba and the middle brother. Who evidently didn't defect. Edit- the middle brother DID defect, not the older one.
  15. Yeah, I think our approach will definitely change now. I think we'll target pitchers with bonus demands that caused them to fall and TJS guys that fell. Probably won't be too exciting this draft, with our limited budget, but I could still see us use rounds 6-10 on college seniors to give us the ability to get a guy that fell somewhat. But yeah, we need to add a Cuban or 3.
  16. Thibs likely DOES have his pick of jobs when he decides to coach again. Maybe not the Lakers though, as I kind of doubt they even want to attempt the slow, methodical, defense first style. Just don't think thats a fit for either party. That said, I agree he's much closer to a more talented Skiles than he is to being the 2nd best coach in the league or whatever was said earlier. He's a guy that's going to have a shelf life wherever he goes and if it wasn't for Noah, my honest guess is he'd have been run out of town in Chicago quicker than he was.
  17. Rose is 224th in PER in the league, 56th among PG's. The last time I looked at it, I think his PER was in the mid 10's, it's now in the mid 12's. He certainly has played much better in 2016, than he did at the beginning of the season. I'm not sure how to factor PER(and am way too lazy to try) but if you look at him as a 16-17 PER type at this stage of his career, you're looking at him as a bottom half of the league starter. And I'd say that's probably what he's viewed as now.
  18. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2016/02/baseball-americas-top-31-cubs-prospects-for-2016.php So Toonster is definitely right on the system ranking. I guess there's not separation between quite a few teams. It's odd that BA had them this low though, as I'm fairly sure Manuel said they'd be 7-10. Maybe I'm confusing them with Callis, BP, or Law. But I thought it was Manuel anyway. By the way, their ceilings and risk factors look way off to me.
  19. i know everyone (myself included) is going to be super against a long-term extension for arrieta. so . . . FUN GAME what is the maximum six year contract (2016-2021) the cubs could give arrieta that would make you say "oooh nice job cubs" and smile real big? 6/100. Absolutely zero chance he'd consider it, but it'd take something THAT skewed towards the Cubs side for it to make sense since he's a pitcher, he's coming off the most innings he's ever thrown by a ton, and we've got him this year and next anyway.
  20. 9 teams pursuing Lazarito, considering teams in both signing periods. May make decision by 2/10, according to Sanchez.
  21. Sources: Braves express strong interest in Cuban teen Lazarito Armenteros. Private workout scheduled for Sat in DR https://t.co/9psWWpuktA
  22. They're not going from Hill to Segura though. They're going from Owings to Segura. So they got a bit older and stayed about the same defensively.
  23. If they're going to blow their 2nd round pick, it would have been very, very foolish to blow it on Kendrick. Being willing to move some picks in their recent past doesn't mean you blow all the picks. A FA worth blowing that pick on isn't available unless they can maybe convince Fowler to play LF. Its why I mentioned anyone attached to a pick. The off season didn't start today for them. They could have gone in a multitude of directions. They evidently weren't even pursuing Greinke and signed him within a day of contact. Which is fine and all, he's obviously a great pitcher. But, if you're going to try and win, they NEEDED to sign a 2nd big FA on top of him or sign 2 guys with the money used on Greinke. All I'm saying is for them to have burned the currency they have and to still be THAT far out of the mix.....Its just bad.
  24. No, the point is after they'd already punted their 1st, its much easier to punt your 2nd. Signing Kendrick(or anyone attached to a pick) is much more palatable when your 1st is already gone. Maybe not in THEIR case, since they've squandered so many assets already though.
  25. So with Segura's 2.6 + the 6.5 they are sending, and losing Hill's 12, they saved about $3 million with this deal. Well done! I went back and looked. They're evidently SAVING 6.5, so they're sending 5.5. As an aside, after this deal, they're 10.1 WAR behind the Giants and 17.5 behind the Dodgers according to Fangraphs.
