  1. Another cheap option would be Boone Logan. Rogers brings up Tony Watson, but with a high price tag.
  2. The Yankees have used two players in left field all year. The #Cubs used three pitchers in left field tonight.- Joe Sheehan
  3. Its never even occurred to me until tonight that a pitcher can save his own win.
  4. The reverse Oakland deal......Torres and lesser stuff for Doolittle and Redick or something else, that's not Gray. (Not advocating, just mentioning a possibility)
  5. There are enough high profile prospect writers out there that EJM would have some coverage, if anyone out there thought the tools were there. They're getting PLENTY of looks, because Jimenez is getting plenty of write-ups. The reviews were mixed heading into the year on EJM- I bought into Law and Kiley over Badler personally. But Law even backed off prior to the season, saying he needed to see him produce in games. I take the fact NO ONE is talking about him AND the fact that outside of increasing his walk rate(which has tailed off recently BTW), basically means he's just a guy who was overrated to begin with. When people get on or leave a prospects train is never going to be universal.
  6. Ugh, Birch thinks it'll be Joel Peralta.
  7. 92-96 for Stinnett? Wow.
  8. where has he been? He's just thrown in Arizona, so that kind of makes it unlikely. But AZPhil mentioned he likely has an early opt out in his contract too.
  9. Sharma says Black's tweet is about something else evidently. So maybe Matusz? I would say Pena, but he's really gone south recently.(10 ER in last 8.2 IP)
  10. I know some here hate Arguello, but I respect his minors coverage. He keeps saying Rice is struggling defensively this season and is unsure if he's a viable C moving forward. He talks to scouts all the time, so I tend to think he has a reason to say that.
  11. Yes, because Soler is the absolute epitomy of health.
  12. We don't need him. Even if Dex leaves, you've got Almora to play CF. Or Heyward in CF, with Schwarber in LF and KB in RF with Javy at 3B. Or plenty of other configurations that don't involve Soler either. We can very likely grab a stopgap that gives us the same overall production Soler will. I'm just as confident in these scenarios as i am with Soler. I actually like Soler. But he's been passed up here. If he actually started hitting again, the poor defense and his fragile state would still keep him from being anything more than a 2-3 WAR guy, in my opinion. And honestly, I think I'm on the high end there. I'd deal him as part of a package for Miller, or even Doolittle and not think twice.
  13. Soler is extremely easy to trade at this point from our end. We don't need him. The only question is whether he's still got enough value to warrant moving him currently.
  14. You want a piece of me? https://t.co/X5NcF8ANTj
  15. How ironic is it that of all the things Ryne Ween finds moronic or stupid, Derrick Rose isn't among them.
  16. The Twins have Abad. The problem right now though, is we'd be overpaying for ANYONE currently. Because there's very few true sellers right now. I don't know what I expect the Yankees to do. But they do have 21 games(14 home though) against teams over .500 between now and the deadline. I personally think the price on Miller is so high, he's there after the deadline, even if they do sell. As for us, I'd love to add a lefty AND righty reliever and suspect we'll be looking for a starter too.
  17. Ridings gets 120k, saving 53,800 from slot value. Robinson gets 30k, saving 132300 from slot. Both, according to Mayo 297,100 saved altogether between Cruz, Ridings, and Robinson. With Mekkes and Rucker both expected to receive over slot. No idea if we can save anything on any of Hatch, Miller, or Clark. My guess is its a slim possibility on Miller. But I can see Hatch requiring over slot himself. Perhaps Clark as well. At any rate, my guess is we don't have 100k extra to throw at any of the later round guys.
  18. Hockin gets full slot(241K), per Mayo.
  19. Why didn't the beanball guy start it?
  20. Oh man, the NY media will be much rougher than Chicago on him too. I don't think its truly known outside of Bull fans exactly how moronic he is.
  21. The problem I have with our setup is that while we have what looks to be a decent amount of cap space, 2/3 of the NBA has more. I keep trying to figure out what the true plan is, after what happened last night..... Since you have to hit the salary floor, my honest guess is this is STILL a "tank" year. PG Calderon, Grant SG Butler, Valentine SF McDermott, Dunleavy, Snell PF Mirotic, Gibson, Portis C Lopez, Felicio My guess is we'll sign a few one year contract types to get up to the minimum. So we'll have plenty to spend next off season, without as much competition to spend. Don't get me wrong, they'll TRY to sign long term guys this year.....But don't kid yourself, that roster is pretty horsefeathering weak. Its NOT a playoff team currently and its not like we've got the ability to outspend teams. In fact, its kind of the opposite. My hope is they trade Taj, instead of losing him for nothing. Give Grant, Valentine, McDermott, Mirotic, Portis, and Felicio plenty of time to see which of that group can figure into future plans. Hopefully wind up with a top 5-8 pick in a much stronger draft, Sacramento's pick(hopefully), and the ability to spend on good players in FA, with more than just Jimmy looking like a longterm fit.
  22. Simple. Don't draft [expletive] stiffs. Use FA to accentuate. I'd rather be horrible and give being GREAT a shot, than sitting in the 6-10 range in the [expletive] ass East for the rest of Jimmy's deal......Then, getting worse once he laughs at the ineptitude and leaves. You're not going to stay in the 15 win range forever. Hell, trade off the kids and picks and reboot in 2 years. But give yourself a damn chance. I really don't even see how a 35-40 win team with no ceiling is watchable personally. who said anything about wanting to be a 35-40 win team? i want to put a good roster around jimmy (kind of like they did with rose in 2010) over this offseason and next and win 50+ and then i'll deal with being heartbroken for 3-4 days when we lose to lebron again. jimmy is good enough to be the best player on that type of team. I don't see the roster construction, the cap room, or a remotely capable FO to accomplish that. In fact, with the escalating cap, I'd fully expect us to hymn ourselves firmly into a 35-40 win team.
  23. This isn't baseball or football. You don't have a shot at a title as long as you are decent and get into the playoffs. I can't remember the last time I saw more than 2 teams as legit title contenders, maybe 3. If you luck into a great player and win titles, that's cool and all, but it's a damn near impossible thing to set out to do. Especially with a cap on player salaries. They don't come around in the draft all that often (that's an understatement) and the financial advantages a big market should have don't matter. You know what really sucks? Winning 15 games and then drafting Marcus Fizer or some [expletive]. And then winning 15 games again. And again. And again. Going years without being interested in the team after 2 or 3 games. Simple. Don't draft horsefeathering stiffs. Use FA to accentuate. I'd rather be horrible and give being GREAT a shot, than sitting in the 6-10 range in the shitty ass East for the rest of Jimmy's deal......Then, getting worse once he laughs at the ineptitude and leaves. You're not going to stay in the 15 win range forever. Hell, trade off the kids and picks and reboot in 2 years. But give yourself a damn chance. I really don't even see how a 35-40 win team with no ceiling is watchable personally.
  24. I like Valentine. GarPax are as bad as Theo/Jed are good though. A "retool" done by these guys is going to result in multiple 30-40 win type seasons. Purgatory. No big name FA is coming to Chicago, they've got to find them at the top of the draft. I don't give a flying horsefeathers about watching a borderline competitive team that finishes consistently between 6-10 in the East. I don't even understand how that CAN be fun. Have some ambition. Maybe you trade Jimmy after FA begins or at the deadline. But a plan to stay mediocre is horsefeathering stupid and right now.....That's what it looks like.
